Vet Notes

Jetgirl (Race 1) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover. Trainer, Mr Mirifn advised that Jetgirl would now be spelled and undertook to report back if anything was amiss with the mare subsequent to the race.
Fireman Sam I Am (Race 2) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor recovery and suffering heat stress. Trainer Ms T Burleigh was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Fireman Sam I Am being permitted to race next.
Oxford Tycoon (Race 6) –a post-race veterinary examination immediately after the race revealed no abnormalities. A further post-race veterinary examination after cooling down found Oxford Tycoon to be 1/5 lame in off foreleg. Trainer Ms K Waugh reported that Oxford Tycoon had pleased the stable since its first up win at Wyong on 24 July 2018. Having regard to the reports from the veterinarian Ms Waugh advised she would conduct a full veterinary inspection of the colt including x-rays and report the findings to the Stewards in the days subsequent. Ms Waugh was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Oxford Tycoon being permitted to race again.
Harper’s Choice (Race 7) – a post-race veterinary report revealed that the gelding sustained a puncture to the off fore sole which was treated by the on-course veterinarians. No further action was taken.
Ghostly (Race 9) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 1/5 lame in the near hind leg. Trainer representative Mr D Beadman advised Ghostly had pleased the stable following its run at Canterbury Park on 25 July 2018 and had displayed no signs of lameness. Mr D Beadman was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Ghostly being permitted to race next.

Penalties & Fines

App M Murphy, rider of Braces pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) of using the whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m. App M Murphy's license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 19 August 2018 and to expire on Tuesday 28 August 2018 on which day he may ride. In assessing penalty Stewards were mindful that this was App Murphy's 10th offence under this rule in the last 12 months.
Mr D Williams, Trainer of Green Sweet was fined the sum of $100 under LR35 for failing to declare J Ford as the rider of the gelding by the prescribed time.

Summary of Races

RACE 1: TAB Highway Handicap 1100m

Table Mountain – Shortly after the start raced in restricted room to the inside of Risk And Reward (A Adkins) which shifted in and away from Bon Allen. Whilst Stewards accepted Risk And Reward was inclined to lay in A Adkins was nonetheless advised to exercise more care. In the early part of the straight was held up behind Lifesaver before improving into a narrow run between Lifesaver and Missed Out near the 250m.
Missed Out – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
Risk And Reward – Raced keenly in the lead in the middle stages.
Bon Allen –. Rider C Van Der Werf stated that the gelding is better suited when being able to dictate his own terms in the lead and this attributed to todays poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalitie. Trainer Mr S Jones stated that the gelding may not have been suited by having three weeks between runs and undertook to report back on the progress of Bon Allen in the days subsequent.
Jetgirl – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider B Shinn stated that his mount jumped awkwardly and did not show sufficient early pace to lead as he had been instructed. He said that Jetgirl travelled only fairly throughout the run and was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr D Mirfin stated that Jetgirl had pleased leading into todays race and the only explanation he could offer for today's performance was that the mare may not have appreciated today's warmer weather conditions particularly in the circumstances where it was slow to recover. Mr Mirifn advised that Jetgirl would now be spelled and undertook to report back if anything was amiss with the mare subsequent to the race.
Whonicked De Lolly – From its outside barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Throughout the middle stages overraced and near the 800m was checked from the heels of Table Mountain.
Dragoneight – Near the 800m was briefly crowded and brushed the running rail when Table Mountain (H Bowman) shifted in and away from Missed Out. H Bowman was advised to exercise more care. Rider K O'Hara stated that she had been instructed to endeavour to have the gelding shifted to the outside to secure clear running. She said that soon after straightening Dragoneight hung in and was very reluctant to shift to the outside of Missed Out and as a consequence was badly held up on the heels of that runner between the 300m and the 150m. She added that Dragoneight then shifted back in behind Missed Out inside the 150m whereby the gelding finished the race off well.

RACE 2: Fairfield RSL Club Handicap 2000m

Quick Defence – Briefly held up in the early part of the straight. Over the final 200m Quick Defence laid out under pressure and shifted considerable ground.
Trafalgar – When questioned regarding the gelding racing back in the field App S Weatherley confirmed his instructions were to be on pace, but after jumping only fairly he was of the view Trafalgar would not show sufficient speed to take up a forward position and for this reason he elected to shift Trafalgar in behind runners where it took up a position towards the rear of the field. Notwithstanding the explanation given by App Weatherley Stewards advised him that he must wherever possible ride his mounts in accordance with the instructions issued.
Braces – Brushed the running rail for some distance near the 1000m. App M Murphy pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) of using the whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m. Estikhraaj – When questioned regarding the gelding being more forward rider H Bowman stated his instructions were to ride the gelding quiet from its wide draw. He added that he then elected to take up a more forward position rather than being caught wide.
Fireman Sam I Am – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor recovery and suffering heat stress. Trainer Ms T Burleigh was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Fireman Sam I Am being permitted to race next.
The Macallan – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider K McEvoy advised his intention was to find cover on the gelding but was unable to do so and as a consequence settled outside the leader Fireman Sam I Am. He said that The Macallan raced too keenly throughout the early stages when left racing without cover and gave ground as a consequence in the straight. He added that in his view The Macallan would be better suited racing without winkers and in addition dropping back in grade at its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller advised that the stable was somewhat disappointed with the gelding's last start at Rosehill 28 July 2018, where the gelding was a beaten favourite. He added that having regard to today's performance The Macallan would now be spelled.

RACE 3: St Johns Park Bowling Club Handicap 1500m

Bergerac – Slow to begin. When making ground in the straight was awkwardly placed closed to the heels of Mapmaker near the 50m when inclined to lay in. Bergerac, then over the concluding stages, improved into a narrow run between Island Missile and Mapmaker.
Island Missile – Bumped on jumping by Snitzel Day which shifted in. Rider B Shinn stated his intentions were to be more forward however when awkwardly positioned to the outside of Imanui in the early stages he elected to come back and follow that runner rather than being caught wide. He added from the 500m Island Missile became under pressure which resulted in him commencing to ride the gelding along, however it took some time for Island Missile to respond to his efforts. He further added in the straight when being shifted to the outside of Imanui his mount became awkward on the heels of Imanui when that runner shifted out in advance of him before establishing clear running approaching the 300m. B Shinn further stated that in the straight Island Missile had a tendency to lay in slightly, and over the concluding stages he was obliged to stop riding to prevent the gelding from shifting in towards Bergerac.
Travancore – From a wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Rider J Collett stated throughout the middle stages Travancore was reluctant to hold its position to the inside of Island Missile as a result he was forced to ride his mount along to maintain that position. He added in the straight Travancore took some time to respond to his riding and in the circumstances, he was not disappointed with the gelding's performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Mapmaker – Knuckled badly on jumping.
Snitzel Day – Rider K McEvoy advised his intention was to settle in a midfield position but after commencing well Snitzel Day took up a more forward position than what had been intended. He added that in his view the gelding is somewhat suspect at the 1500m and this was the principal reason for it failing to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller concurred with the views of K McEvoy and undertook to report back if anything was amiss with Snitzel Day in the days subsequent
Surjin – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

RACE 4: Dooley’s Handicap

Domed – Near the 100m was briefly inconvenienced when Seahampton shifted out slightly.
All Too Soon – From its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Istria – Rider R King advised that her mount endured a favourable run in the event and after briefly being held up on the heels of Sweet Scandal in the early part of the straight she endeavoured to improve to that runner's outside. She added that as she endeavoured to do so Sweet Scandal shifted out at the same point which resulted in Istria being awkwardly placed on the heels of Sweet Scandal when taken out by that runner. She added once balanced Istria did not finish the race off as expected and in her opinion is better suited on tracks with more give in them. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Cummings advised that the mare performances best on softer track conditions and in his opinion, this was the reason for its disappointing performance. Trainer Mr J Cummings was asked to report back on the post-race condition of the mare in the days subsequent.
Allez Bien – Near the 900m improved to the inside of Domed (B Shinn) where there was insufficient room and shortly after had to be steadied when Domed shifted in. Rider T Clark advised his instructions were to ensure that he obtained cover on the mare and for this reason from the barrier he rode Allez Bien quietly. He added that he would have preferred to take up a more forward position however he was obligated to come back to obtain a trailing position towards the rear of the field after riding his mount quietly in the early stages.
Bella Success – Rider K McEvoy advised that his intention was to be more forward, but the mare was slow to begin and consequently raced further back than intended. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

RACE 5: Campbelltown Catholic Club Handicap 1100m

Dal Cielo – When making ground in the straight had to be steadied and shifted to the inside of Tactical Advantage near the 50m to continue into clear running.
Sir Plush – Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding his riding from the 600m rider J Collett stated that after settling at the rear of the field Sir Plush commenced to race fiercely from the 700m and after being placed close to the heels of Dal Cielo, he shifted Sir Plush to the inside of Dal Cielo where there was more comfortable racing room. He added that he was then held up behind Memes and Dal Cielo in the early part of the straight before shifting out and obtaining clear running at the 250m after which Sir Plush finished the race off strong. J Collet agreed with the Stewards that his best option would have been to follow Dal Cielo into the home straight but given the racing manners of the gelding he was unable to do.
Memes – Rider Ms R King advised that whilst her intention was to obtain cover on the mare Memes settled further back than what she had intended when Just A Bullet and Diddums showed more speed than she had anticipated.
Trekking – Raced wide and without cover throughout. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Miss Que – Was caught wide and without cover in the early stages and was restrained near the 700m to obtain cover. Laid out in the straight resulting in its rider T Clark pulling the whip through to his left hand near the 200m.

RACE 6: Smithfield RSL Club Rosebud 1100m (Listed)

Legend Of Condor – Slow to begin.
Outrageous – Slow to begin and then was crowded by Ringerdingding which began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.
Sandbar – Began awkwardly.
Plague Stone – Crowded on jumping between Oxford Tycoon and Exceltic both of which shifted ground. Raced wide and without cover in the early stages. Raced keenly in the early stages.
Oxford Tycoon – Stewards permitted B Shinn to ride the colt 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 54kg. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider B Shinn stated that the colt travelled well in the early and middle stages however made contact with Sandbar on a number of occasions near the 600m, as K McEvoy rider of Sandbar attempted to secure a position one off. B Shinn added his mount became under pressure and did not respond to his riding in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination immediately after the race revealed no abnormalities. A further post-race veterinary examination after cooling down found Oxford Tycoon to be 1/5 lame in off foreleg. Trainer Ms K Waugh reported that Oxford Tycoon had pleased the stable since its first up win at Wyong on 24 July 2018. Exceltic – Bumped Plague Stone on jumping and became unbalanced. Stewards inquired into the reason for rider Ms R King returning to scale 0.5kg under her declared weight. Under the provisions of AR143(a) Stewards declared correct weight when R King was allowed 0.5kg in accordance with the provisions of this rule. The inquiry was unable to establish any explanation for the occurrence however she was reminded of her obligation under the rules to ensure her mounts carry the weight allocated.
Golden Tycoon – Stewards permitted J Collett to ride the colt 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 53kg.
Charge – Hung out on the home turn.
Ringerdingding – Over the final 200m had difficulty obtaining clear running.

RACE 7: Bankstown Sports Premier’s Cup Prelude 1800m

Mighty Lucky – When questioned regarding the gelding leading, rider J Innes stated that he elected to ride his mount along in the early part of the race to cross the runner's position immediately to his inside with the view to allowing the expected pace from outside to cross him. He said that when a number of these runners did not go forward as expected Mighty Lucky maintained the lead throughout the event.
Harper’s Choice – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with Green Sweet. A post-race veterinary report revealed that the gelding sustained a puncture to the off fore sole which was treated by the on-course veterinarians. No further action was taken.
Carzoff – Stewards permitted T Berry to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 54.5kg. When questioned regarding his riding in the straight and as to why he did not immediately improve around Testashadow rider T Berry stated whilst there was an option to shift out around Testashadow his instructions from trainer Mr C Waller were to improve between runners as the gelding has raced best when ridden in this manner. He said for this reason when the run presented to the outside he was indecisive in coming to Testashadow outside as he was endeavouring to ride to instructions. He further added when Testashadow shifted out he elected to go back to the inside and ride in accordance of his instructions. Stable representative Mr L Prior confirmed that T Berry was advised not to expose his mount too early to ensure it finished the race off strongly and further that the gelding has raced best when able to improve between runners. Near the 200m T Berry briefly dropped his nearside rein.
Green Sweet – Trainer Mr D Williams was fined the sum of $100 under LR35 for failing to declare J Ford as the rider of the gelding by the prescribed time.

RACE 8: Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club Spring Preview 1400m

Invinzabeel – After being crossed by Prized Icon near the 1000m commenced to overrace. When questioned regarding his riding in the straight and the reason he did not immediately take a run to the inside of Prized Icon rider B Shinn stated that as he had formed the view it was advantageous to improve wider in the straight he elected to endeavour to secure clear running to the outside of Prized Icon. He said that when Prized Icon then shifted out slightly in advance he was briefly held up before ultimately improving to that runners inside the 250m. Whilst Stewards accepted his decision to endeavour to shift out, did not compromise the finishing position of Invinzabeel he was advised that he must ensure he avails himself with runs when they present.
Prince Cheri – From its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Cordero – Was slow to begin and from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Old North – Was slow to begin and from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
I Am Serious – Began awkwardly.
Got Unders – Raced wide and without cover throughout.

RACE 9: ClubsNSW Handicap 1350m

Star Of Monsoon – Slow to begin and shortly after was hampered by Prometheus which shifted out.
Mr Tickets – When questioned rider T Clark could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance and added the gelding was well beaten soon after entering the straight. A postrace veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr M Newnham advised that in his view Mr Tickets may not have backed up from its last start at Randwick on 4 August 2018 and indicated the gelding would be given a short spell. Mr Newnham undertook to report back on the post-race condition of Mr Tickets in the days subsequent.
Ghostly – Rider Ms R King stated that Ghostly commenced better today and was able to take up a more forward position, however failed to respond to her riding in the straight. A postrace veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 1/5 lame in the near hind leg. Trainer representative Mr D Beadman advised Ghostly had pleased the stable following its run at Canterbury Park on 25 July 2018 and had displayed no signs of lameness. Mr D Beadman was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Ghostly being permitted to race next.
Level Eight – Raced wide and without cover throughout,
Paret – Slow to begin.
Prioritise – Near the 600m endeavoured to improve to the inside of Prometheus where there was insufficient room and had to be steadied, when Prometheus shifted in slightly.
He’s A Given – Began awkwardly.
Gitan – Rider A Adkins advised that his instructions from its wide barrier were to ride the gelding quietly and to make a wide run in the straight. He added in accordance with his instructions he elected to shift Gitan in behind runners in the early stages. Trainer Mr J Dubious confirmed the instructions issues to A Adkins and was notified of his obligation to inform the Stewards of any changes in riding tactics.
