Best in the Yard - McKell Cup Day at Royal Randwick

Published: 25 May 2014

The best in the yard from McKell Cup Day at Royal Randwick came from Race 7, with the Gerald Ryan trained "Walk With Attitude" looking fit and strong ahead of the BM 80 race for fillies and mares over 1400m. A newly acquired mare for the Ryan stable this preparation, she seemed in good health, presenting with a beautiful glossy coat.

She has good muscle across a compact sprinting frame and was more powerful than most others in the field. However, despite clear athletic ability, her performance first-up was only fair after a long spell and she drifted in the market ahead of Saturday's event with not much confidence in the betting ring ($21 to $26).

Breeding

The bloodline of her sire Hussonet (also sire of Woodbine) is clear in her robust build. Her dam Hillfa was a black-type winner and a real blue-blood, being a cross between Danehill and Fayfa, who herself was sired by English Derby winner Slip Anchor.

The Result

She performed poorly, battling into midfield before being eased down late to finish 13th. After a lack of recent racing it appears her heart is no longer in the game as much as it was during her black-type winning three year old year. She has now been retired and her owners Milburn Creek Stud will hope to have more success in the breeding barn.
