Vet Notes

  • Mollyfied (Race 1) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have been galloped on the near hind cannon. Trainer Mr G Ryan advised in his opinion Mollyfied races best when able to obtain cover. He undertook to report back on the condition and the future race plans of the mare in the days subsequent.
  • Trafalgar (Race 2) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be coughing. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised that a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to Trafalgar racing again.
  • Invicta (Race 2) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a small wound on the near hind coronet band.
  • Equal Balance (Race 3) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its off fore plate.
  • Sanglier (Race 4) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be slow to recover.

Penalties & Fines

  • A Adkins, rider of Plague Stone pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Plague Stone which had to be steadied and as a result lost its rightful running. A Adkins' license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday 27 August 2018 and to expire on Friday 7 September 2018 on which day he may ride. When questioned rider G Schofield stated after suffering interference in the early stages the colt got further back than had been anticipated and found it difficult to make up ground particularly with the early moderate tempo. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of Plague Stone in the days subsequent.
  • C Brown was fined the sum of $100 under AR120(b) due to being overweight and unable to ride  Aramayo.
  • Mr Paul Snowden, Co-Trainer of Prometheus was fined the sum of $200 under LR35 for the late declaration of W Costin as the rider on the gelding. Raced wide and without cover the majority of the event

Summary of Races

RACE 1: Hachem Management Group Handicap 1500m

  • Heavenly Anna – When being restrained in the early stages in an attempt to find cover, raced keenly and refused to settle. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event
  • Allez Bien – Overraced in the early stages.
  • Mollyfied – When questioned rider J Parr advised that his intention was to take up a forward position but with Mollyfied racing keenly in the early stages he was able to position his mount outside the early leader Mandylion nearing the 1300m. He said that when App S Weatherley rider of Mandylion commenced to restrain his mount leaving the 1000m he elected to allow Mollyfied to cross that runner and assume the lead. J Parr further added that the fierce racing manners of the mare led to it weakening in the straight and in his opinion, it may have come to the end its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have been galloped on the near hind cannon. Trainer Mr G Ryan advised in his opinion Mollyfied races best when able to obtain cover. He undertook to report back on the condition and the future race plans of the mare in the days subsequent.
  • Palmateer – Hampered on jumping when Bella Success began awkwardly and shifted out.
  • Eight Below – Began awkwardly and then shortly after was crowded between Allez Bien and Heavenly Anna which shifted out.
  • Eugene's Pick – Bumped on jumping by All Too Soon which shifted out.

RACE 2: FIIG Handicap 2000m

  • Trafalgar – Rider J McDonald reported that the gelding was not comfortable on the Soft (5) track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be coughing. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised that a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to Trafalgar racing again.
  • Letter To Juliette – Slow to begin.
  • Itsa Fait Accompli – Rider K McEvoy stated that his mount did not appear to travel comfortably throughout the event and was unsuited by racing back in the field, in a slow run race. He further added that the gelding may not have handled todays step up in grade. A postrace veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Valentino Rossa – Raced keenly in the early stages.
  • Invicta – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a small wound on the near hind coronet band.
  • Royal Stamp – Overraced badly throughout the early and middle stages and refused to settle.

RACE 3: Tab Highway Handicap 1100m

  • Equal Balance – Over the final 200m laid out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its off fore plate.
  • Dominant Crown – Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between Common Purpose and Risk And Reward both of which shifted ground. Dominant Crown Was then shifted in behind runners from its wide barrier.
  • Common Purpose – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
  • Highway Sixtysix – After beginning only fairly was steadied shortly after the start when crowded between My Blue Jeans and Cosmic Reign which shifted in. Rider J McDonald stated that his intention was to be more forward, but the mare jumped awkwardly and with the ear muffs on today was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages and settled much further back than intended. He added that in the straight Highway Sixtysix took some time to respond to his riding and did not commence to finish the race off strongly until the final 200m.
  • Gripped – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping by Patriot. Near the 200m shifted out and away from Risk And Reward and as consequence hampered Patriot.
  • Risk And Reward – Was inclined to lay in under pressure in the early part of the straight. Near the 200m when being shifted to the outside of Common Purpose to obtain clear running had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of that runner.
  • Cosmic Reign – Rider K O'Hara reported that her mount became awkward in its action and blundered near the 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 4: Lindt Handicap 1100m

  • She Knows – Began only fairly and despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to muster speed. Hung out in the middle stages when racing wide and without cover.
  • Single Bullet – Briefly held up behind Pedway in the early part of the straight. Near the 150m laid out, resulting in T Angland having to stop riding. T Angland was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
  • All Too Huiying – Bounded on jumping. Approaching the home turn was briefly held up when awkwardly placed on the heels of Za Zi Ba.
  • Jetwings – Slow to begin and was then steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Soon after straightening was shifted to the outside of runners to secure clear running.
  • Upscale – From a wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
  • Argent D'Or – When commencing to close the race off strongly had to be shifted to the outside of Pedway approaching the 100m to continue into clear running.
  • Za Zi Ba – Bumped on jumping.
  • Don't Tease Me – Began awkwardly.
  • Pro Consul – Held up for some distance near the 300m.
  • Sanglier – When questioned rider K McEvoy advised that his mount raced keenly in the run and in his view did not handle the soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be slow to recover.

RACE 5: Singapore Airlines San Domenico Stakes 1100m (Group 3)

  • Performer – Raced wide and without cover for the major part of the race.
  • Paquirri – Began awkwardly and was bumped by Performer shortly after the start. From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners.
  • Dio D'Oro – From the outside barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 800m was steadied from the heels of Paquirri.
  • Plague Stone – Began only fairly. Rider A Adkins pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Plague Stone which had to be steadied and as a result lost its rightful running. A Adkins' license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday 27 August 2018 and to expire on Friday 7 September 2018 on which day he may ride.   • Ringerdingding – A post-race veterinary examination of the colt revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr E O'Rourke advised that Ringerdingding would now be spelled and gelded.

RACE 6: Visit Monaco Ming Dynasty 1400m (Group 3)

  • Outrageous – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Near the 300m when held up on the heels of Signore Fox was shifted to that runners outside where it obtained clear running at the 250m.
  • Toulouse – Overraced in the early stages.
  • Aramayo – Stewards permitted T Clark to be substituted as the rider of the colt due to C Brown being overweight. C Brown was fined the sum of $100 under AR120(b).
  • Dealmaker – Slow to begin. From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind barriers in the early stages.
  • Cloak – Bumped with Aramayo on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Signore Fox – When questioned rider K McEvoy advised that the colt, when caught wide and without cover for the majority of the race raced keenly. He added that the colt may not have been entirely comfortable on the soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Onthetake – Stewards permitted J Collett to ride the filly 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 53kg. From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners
  • Mizzy – Stewards considered an objection lodged by A Adkins the rider of second placegetter Mizzy, against Danawi (J Innes Jnr) being declared the winner alleging interference from the 400m to the 200m. After considering the evidence Stewards found that soon after straightening Danawi commenced to shift out in search of better going and in doing so Mizzy was then shifted out when positioned close to the heels of Danawi. Stewards found that Mizzy had not established running to the outside of Danawi prior to Danawi commencing to shift out and furthermore near the 250m Mizzy momentarily shifted out and away from Danawi which shifted out marginally, however due to the minor nature of this incident the Stewards dismissed the objection.

RACE 7: New Caledonia Travel Connection Premier's Cup 1900m (Group 3)

  • Destiny's Kiss – Crowded on jumping between Auvray and Peribsen which was taken in by I Am Serious.
  • Emperor's Way – Rider A Adkins advised that in his opinion Emperor's Way did not handle today's track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • First Crush – Stewards permitted J McDonald to ride the gelding 1.0kg over its allotted weight of 54kg.
  • Sons Of John – Stewards permitted A Hyeronimus to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 54kg.
  • Avilius – Briefly held up in the early part of the straight.
  • Peribsen – Stewards permitted J Collett to ride the horse 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 53kg. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Despite being ridden along in the early stages did not show early speed. Near the 600m bumped with Emperor's Way when Emperor's Way shifted out to improve to the outside of Testashadow.

RACE 8: The CEO Magazine Handicap 1200m

  • Isorich – Began awkwardly and bumped Rock Forthe Ladies. Raced wide and without cover throughout.
  • Rock Forthe Ladies – From the outside barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
  • Top Striker - On the home turn, when inclined to lay in shifted in behind Isorich and had to be steadied off the heels of that runner. Laid out in the straight.
  • Don't Give A Damn – Bumped on jumping.
  • Intuition – Stewards permitted H Bowman to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 55.5kg. Rider H Bowman stated that the gelding on pulling up made an abnormal respiratory noise and in his view was not entirely comfortable on the soft track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Cummings undertook to provide a veterinary clearance to the Stewards in the days subsequent.
  • Miss Que – Near the 400m shifted out and was steadied from the heels of Noble Joey.
  • Renewal – Stewards permitted J McDonald to ride the gelding 1kg over its allotted weight of 54kg. Slow to begin. From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind barriers.
  • Arraignment – After being slow to begin was bumped on jumping by Don't Give A Damn.

RACE 9: Pacific Boating Handicap 1500m

  • High Mist – Slow to begin.
  • Eagle Bay – Began awkwardly. Close to the finish line could not be ridden out when placed close to the heels of Mapmaker.
  • Paret – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind barriers shortly after the start. Near the 250m commenced to improve between Prometheus and Mapmaker (App S Weatherley) and as a consequence had to be checked to avoid the heels of Mapmaker when that runner shifted out. App S Weatherley was advised to exercise more care.
  • Level Eight – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start bumped with Social Element.
  • Prometheus – Co-Trainer Mr Paul Snowden was fined the sum of $200 under LR35 for the late declaration of W Costin as the rider on the gelding. Raced wide and without cover the majority of the event.
  • Voilier – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start.
  • Travancore – Held up until inside the 200m where it obtained clear running to the inside of Samadoubt.
