Vet Notes

  • Skripchenko (Race 2) – rider T Clark stated, in comparison to its racing starts which were over shorter journeys, running good tempos, today the filly was inclined to pull hard when the pace was slow and, as a consequence, did not finish its race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery.
  • Eisenhower (Race 3) – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the presence of a wound to the found of the nearside gaskin region.
  • Foxbat (Race 5) – slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination re vealed the gelding to be sore behind. Trainer Ms C Roberts was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Foxbat racing again.

 

Race-by-Race Summary  

RACE 1: tab.com.au Handicap 1350m

  • So Willie – slow to begin. Hampered shortly after the start when Lightning Rock shifted in. Involving – overraced in the early stages.
  • Meri Rani - shifted out and away from Quick Ransom approaching the first turn near the 1000m.
  • Quick Ransom – inclined to race greenly for some distance in the early and middle stages and ran in approaching the first turn on two occasions and had to be steadied away from the heels of Shards near the 1000m.
  • Bubbleberry – when questioned, App. L Grace stated he was able to get into a trailing position on the back of the eventual winner, Shards, however, when asked for an effort in the straight the filly was disappointing and, in his opinion, stepping up in distance to 1350m, did not run out the journey and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr G Ryan agreed with the assessment of App. Grace and reported that Bubbleberry will now be spelled.

RACE 2: McGrath Estate Agents Handicap 1200m

  • Better Not Blue – overraced in the early and middle stages. For some distance passing the 800m, which attempted to get to the outside of the heels of Well Hardly Ever, made contact with Kipling, when attempting to maintain its position one off the fence to the outside of Better Not Blue. Near the 200m, when inclined to lay in, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between Well Hardly Ever (D Beasley), which shifted out to improve, and Kipling, which shifted in slightly under pressure. Continued to lay in across the heels of Well Hardly Ever for a short distance thereafter. D Beasley was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Near the 50m struck the heels of Stimuli, which ran out abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, B Avdulla, resulting in Better Not Blue blundering badly. When questioned, R Brewer explained that the gelding never travelled well at any stage and was not comfortable in the conditions. He added that, although his mount overraced and was the subject of interference in the straight, he felt its overall effort was disappointing. Rider R Brewer pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on eight occasions prior to the 100m (three more than permitted by the rule). R Brewer was fined $200.
  • Skripchenko – rider T Clark stated, in comparison to its racing starts which were over shorter journeys, running good tempos, today the filly was inclined to pull hard when the pace was slow and, as a consequence, did not finish its race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery.
  • Stimuli – blundered near the 50m and then, after B Avdulla stopped riding with the whip, ran out abruptly. The racing manners of Stimuli, which B Avdulla reported changed stride on a number of occasions in the straight and proved difficult to ride out, were brought to the attention of trainer Mr K Lees.

RACE 3: More Than Ready @ Vinery Handicap 1500m

  • Dupe'Em – slow to begin.
  • Like Xena – overraced in the early and middle stages.
  • Final Decision – held up for clear running until passing the 200m.
  • Eisenhower – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the presence of a wound to the found of the nearside gaskin region.
  • Poncherello – when questioned, rider B Avdulla stated the gelding travelled fairly in the lead, but did not handle the soft going when asked to improve. A post - race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4: TAB Rewards Handicap 1400m

  • Mighty Lucky – jumped awkwardly.

RACE 5: Cellarbrations Handicap 1100m

  • Earnest Ernest – as J Parr was stood do wn by the Club's Medical Officer following his ride on Eisenhower in Race 3 due to illness, he was replaced by T Clark.
  • Foxbat – slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination re vealed the gelding to be sore behind. Trainer Ms C Roberts was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Foxbat racing again.
  • Lyric - dipped near the 250m.
  • Senta De Noche – App. K Jennings stated his mount travelled well outside the leader, Nuclear Class, to the home turn, but was inclined to lay in in the straight and did not respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Nuclear Class – which compounded quickly after leading and finished distanced, was badly distressed in the mounting yard and suffered a catastrophic collapse when being taken back to the race day stalls via the course proper. App. B Loy stated that his mount commenced to weaken quickly at the entrance to the straight and he elected to ease the mare down over the final 200m. Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian Dr C Suann, who was on hand in the mounting yard, diagnosed Nuclear Class as suffering from cardiac arrhythmia on returning to the enclosure. Dr Suann reported that the mare became unsteady on its feet and, in his opinion, suffered acute cardiac failure. Nuclear Class was sent to the University Teaching Veterinary Hospital, Camden, for autopsy and blood sample taken from the mare will be sent for analysis. Trainer Mr T Morton stated that Nuclear Class had never shown any distress after any of its races and had no treatments or examination s leading into today 's race. He added that the mare travelled down overnight from Port Macquarie and ate up this morning. Mr Morton was asked to produce stable veterinary records to the Stewards. The inquiry was adjourned pending the receipt of same.

RACE 6: Schweppes Handicap 2000m

  • Bagman – tightened on jumping between Lucky Liasion and Mr One Eleven .
  • Darci Magic – at the 1200m was briefly hampered when Missvonn shifted in. Rider T Clark stated his mount did not appear to appreciate being cluttered up between horses rounding the home turn and today did not run out the 2000m with the race being run at a solid tempo. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Dream Folk – held up and had to be directed out across heels and did not obtain clear running until passing the 300m.
  • Reigning – held up and awkwardly placed on the heels of Missvonn early in the straight. Beyond Thankful near the 250m had to be steadied off the heels of Bagman (BShinn), which shifted in. B Shinn was told to exercise more care.
  • Mr One Eleven – when questioned regarding the performance, App. W Costin stated that she had to make some use of her mo unt to go forward and race outside the leader, Phrases, but nevertheless the gelding was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Sargent stated that Mr One Eleven had pleased the stable going into the race. Mr Sargent was advised that Mr One Eleven must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

RACE 7: TAB Place Multi Handicap 1350m

  • Moral Victory – lost its near fore plate on jumping. Passing the 300m shifted out under pressure, resulting in Grande Punto being briefly inconvenienced.
  • Grande Punto – shortly after straightening came into contact with Aussies Love Sport as Grande Punto endeavoured to improve to the outside of the heels of Moral Victory.
  • Abbasso – held up passing the 200m. C Reith, rider of 6th placegetter was fined $200 under AR137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finish.
  • Bascule – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 8: Hyland Race Colours Handicap 1200m

  • Fiftyshadesofgrey – lost its off-fore plate in the mounting yard, necessitating it being replated behind the barriers.
  • Gold Epona – lost its near-fore plate on jumping. J Collett, rider of the winner, Fiftyshadesofgrey, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he shifted out near the 200m to improve to the outside of the heels of Catseye Surprise when insufficiently clear, resulting in Fiftyshadesofgrey making contact with Gold Epona, causing that runner to lose its rightful running and having to be checked by its rider. J Collett 's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 23 June 2015 and to expire on Thursday, 2 July 2015, on which day he may ride. In addition J Collett was fined the sum of $1000.
  • Breakfast In Bed – a post - race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Aerobar – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
