  • Bocelli – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance rider C Brown explained that he had to make some use of the gelding in the early stages to hold a forward position adding that the gelding was under pressure leaving the 600m. He added that in his view Bocelli was looking for additional ground where it could travel comfortably which would enable it to finish the race off. Near the 600m Caccini and Bocelli were hampered when crowded by Prince Planet (B El-Issa) which shifted in. B El-Issa was advised to exercise more care. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Ms T Burleigh concurred with the views of C Brown and advised that the gelding would be stepping up in distance for its next race start.

He added that Santos continued to be held up until near the 150m where he observed a tight run develop between Neutrality and Charge however inside the 100m the run closed, and Santos was not able to be tested for the remainder of the event. Stewards accepted the evidence of H Bowman that he was not in a position to shift to obtain running to the outside of Neutrality soon after straightening given his position on the track when racing behind Charge.

  • Another Dollar – Consideration was given to an objection lodged by K McEvoy rider of 3rd placegetter Another Dollar against Goodfella (A Hyeronimus) being declared 2nd, alleging interference near the 300m. After considering the evidence Stewards found that soon after straightening Goodfella shifted out which resulted in Another Dollar improving to that runners inside and establishing clear running. Near the 300m Goodfella then shifted in when not clear of Another Dollar resulting in Another Dollar having to be steadied, losing the running it had established and being shifted to the outside of Goodfella. Having considered the manner in which both horses finished the race off Stewards upheld the objection when they were satisfied that had the interference not occurred Another Dollar would have finished in advance of Goodfella and amended the placings to read. 1st) Muraaqeb 2nd) Another Dollar 3rd) Goodfella 4th) Souchez At a subsequent inquiry A Hyeronimus (Goodfella) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a). In his view English would obtain a fitness benefit from today's run. A post-race veterinary examination immediately after the race and after being swabbed revealed no abnormalities.
