Race Day Quotes @ Royal Randwick

Published: 11 Jul 2015

"Next time he's going to be bigger and stronger" - Claire Nutman was impressed by Way We Go today

It was all about a speedy sprinter and dour English stayer at Royal Randwick today.

WAY WE GO flashed past his rivals with rapid speed and ASTRONOMOS showed superior stamina, both gallopers showing their best qualities on a cold Winter's day. Warmer weather and hotter races await the two of them, they're both good enough to show up in the Spring.

A few selected quotes from the day help bring it to life.

"It's drifting all about the place like the first winner did!!"

Darren Flindell, race caller, as Moody's second winner NOELA'S CHOICE raced greenly but still won, just as KENJORWOOD did in Race 1

Wayward, but too good - Noela's Choice stormed down the centre of the track

"He's very green and next time around he's going to be bigger and stronger."

"We don't know how good he is, he works with horses at home that go pretty good and he just plays with them"

Garry Frazer, trainer of WAY WE GO

Family affair - The Frazer's and jockey Claire Nutman celebrate the win

"The owners have flown down from North Queensland which is a good thing. The last thing I said to Tommy was ride him like the good thing he is."

Michael Hawkes, trainer of IDANCE

Good thing - Idance cools down after a dominant win

"Wow Astronomos looks good.."

Caroline Searcy, horse expert on Twitter (@CaroSearcc)

"He's got a grin on him like a carpet snake in a foul house."

Greg Radley, Sky racing host, referring to Jason Collett, jockey of ASTRONOMOS as he crossed the line

"He'll have a couple of weeks now and we'll head towards the Metropolitan."

David Vandyke, trainer of ASTRONOMOS

Relief for punters - The well-backed Astronomos only just won

"Festival of Winona cancelled. Failed to show up #UnforgivingFan"

'Wal G', punter on Twitter (@Gisikus), after Costin's winning streak came to an end

"The track is really slick. It'll suit horses who are racing up with the pace, so he's the one we all have to beat.

Frankie Dettori, jockey, talking about Waller's BRAZEN BEAU, who races tonight in the July Cup (UK)
