Race-by-Race Summary

RACE 1: Shout Out Mile 1600m

  • Pajaro – rider T Huet stated his instructions had been to be running second or third, but the gelding jumped awkwardly and, as a result took up a trailing position.
  • Kenjorwood – rider App. R Bayliss explained that the gelding, which was racing in the clockwise direction for the first time, got on the wrong leg on the home turn and ran out and again was inclined to shift ground inside the 200m. The near-fore action of Kenjorwood rounding the home turn was brought to the attention of stable representative Ms C Cunningham, who was advised that the Stewards will continue to monitor the gelding's actions to ensure it does not present a danger to other horses and riders. Ms Cunningham stated that Kenjorwood would take benefit from its first attempt racing in the clockwise direction.

RACE 2: TAB Rewards Handicap 1400m

  • Kimberley Star – slow to begin.
  • Intrepid Way – inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
  • Stalwart – when questioned concerning the performance of Stalwart, H Bowman stated that he shifted out across the back of the heels of Kimberley Star near the 300m to obtain clear running, however, the colt was inclined to lay in behind that runner, before being hampered near the 150m. T Angland, rider of Electric Tribute, was reprimanded for shifting in at this point. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr D Beadman reported Stalwart would now be spelled.

RACE 3: TAB Place Multi Handicap 1600m

  • Berrimilla – jumped awkwardly and then had to be steadied off the heels of I'm In The Money, which shifted in.
  • Noela's Choice – inclined to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages.
  • Hula Lua – when questioned regarding the performance of the mare, H Bowman stated the first 1000m was run at a very solid pace, which should have suited the mare racing with cover back in the field. He added, however, from the 1000m Hula Lua was off the bit and hard ridden prior to the turn. He further stated when the mare was well beaten he eased it down over the final stages. Mr C Carmody, representing trainer Mr M Kent, stated Hula Lua travelled well and had done well in Sydney. Mr Carmody was advised that the mare would be required to trial prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be coughing. Trainer Mr M Kent will be required to provide a veterinary clearance, including an endoscopic examination, prior to Hula Lua's next start.

RACE 4: Ruben Guthrie in Cinemas July 16 Handicap 2000m

  • Kiseki Dane - which was held up early in the straight, was then inclined to lay out when placed under pressure over the final 250m.
  • Yellen – G Schofield, rider of the 6th placegetter, was fined $300 under AR137(b) for having failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race. He was also spoken to concerning being close to being in breach of AR145 with respect to the weight at which he weighed in.

RACE 5: All Too Hard @ Vinery Handicap 1100m

  • Eminent Duke – jumped awkwardly.
  • Way We Go – overraced in the early and middle stages.
  • Dupe 'Em – made contact with the running rail at the 600m.
  • Reigning Meteor – after establishing a run to the inside of Momma's Snitzel near the 200m, was crowded and taken in when Momma's Snitzel (App. J Taylor) shifted in under pressure. App. Taylor was advised to exercise more care.
  • Inz'n'out – hampered and taken in at the 150m.
  • Roaring To Win – held up until approaching the 100m

RACE 6: The Mick 'Çrusher' Kerr Memorial Handicap 1300m

  • Queen Of Kariba – slow to begin (3L).
  • Idance – overraced in the middle stages.
  • Alias – rider G Schofield stated his mount missed the start slightly and was crossed early. He added Alias did not appreciate racing in behind horses. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr J Pride stated that the gelding did not appear comfortable racing between horses in the middle stages and may be better suited when able to dictate terms. He undertook to report back to the Stewards on the progress of Alias subsequent to the race.
  • Coolring – rider H Bowman stated the gelding raced a little too keenly outside the leader and, coupled with its big weight on the heavy track, then failed to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 7: tab.com.au Handicap 2000m

  • It's About You – as App. R Bayliss was not able to claim any of his 2 kilogram allowance and as his listed riding weight was 51 kilograms, he was replaced on the gelding by App. W Costin. App Bayliss was fined $100 under LR70. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account this was his first weight related offence.
  • Loophole – Passing the 1900m Loophole had to be checked when Let Me Handle It was taken in by Casino Dancer (App. C Nutman). App. C Nutman pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. App. Nutman's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 21 July 2015 and to expire on Thursday, 30 July 2015, on which day she may ride.
  • Ghost Protocol – at the 100m had to be steadied when Casino Dancer shifted out.

RACE 8: Bledisloe Cup Festival Handicap 1000m

  • Holder Sunset – was a late withdrawal at 10.20am on veterinary advice when the mare was found to be sore in the near foreleg.
  • Capitano – briefly tightened near the 700m between Jimmy Says Yes and Wonderbolt, which was inclined to lay out.
  • Kudero – at the 700m had to be checked when tightened for room between Miss Alibi and Destiny Rising which, after initially being tightened by Il Mio Destino (App. J Taylor), then ran in abruptly away from that runner. App. Taylor was reprimanded and advised that, whilst the Stewards found that the interference to Kudero was principally due to the racing manners of Destiny Rising, that she had contributed by briefly tightening Destiny Rising at that point. In the incident Wonderbolt and Fell Swoop were hampered in consequence.
  • Jimmy Says Yes – held up in the in the early part of the straight.
  • Fell Swoop – unable to obtain clear running in the straight and then close to the line rider T Angland stated that he stopped riding briefly when Wonderbolt was shifting in to his outside and he was of the opinion he was taking the ground of Capitano to his inside.
  • Selectify – when questioned concerning the poor performance of Selectify, rider H Bowman stated that he was trapped wide and his mount overraced throughout the early and middle stages and, as a result, did not finish the race off. He added for that reason he did not push his mount right out to the line. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr K Lees state that, whilst Selectify has form on soft tracks, he felt, particularly racing first up on a heavy track and being forced to cover ground in the run, were the main factors in its disappointing effort. He added he intended to now space the horse's next run and undertook to report if there is anything amiss with Selectify in the days subsequent.
  • Allez Chival – rider P Wells stated that the mare travelled to the turn, but he was not happy with its action in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms L Wray stated it was now her intention to spell the mare. Stewards ruled that Allez Chival must trial to their satisfaction prior to its next start.
