Race Day Quotes @ Rosehill Gardens

"He’s a serious horse" - Shiraz impressed McEvoy’s stable foreman Barry Wintle
A dominant win from SHIRAZ indicated that there were better races in store for the talented McEvoy-trained gelding on a cold Winter's day at Rosehill Gardens.
The track played well considering the amount of rain Sydney had during the week, a lack of any obvious bias meant the best wet-trackers could rose to the top.
A few selected quotes from the day help bring it to life.
"As he quickens he drops his head and gets in a rhythm"
Glynn Schofield, jockey of SOVIET COURAGE
All smiles - Soviet Courage gave weight to the small field and still won
"We had her booked on the truck on Monday, but this race looked like a nice race for her and when she drew [barrier] two it got better.”
John O’Shea, trainer of ALEGRIA (source Chris Roots www.smh.com.au)
"Probably a year down the track she will come back a really nice 4 year old"
James McDonald, jockey of ALGERIA
Improving all the time - Alegria took an inside run to score a determined win
"He’s no superstar but he tries very hard. He had to dig deep today and he was quite impressive the last 50 metres.”
Chris Waller, trainer of RUGGED CROSS told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
Lifted late to just get there - Rugged Cross picked up best in the wet
"She was there to be beaten today off a slow tempo but it was a nice ride sticking to the fence and saving a little bit of ground.”
Jason Coyle, trainer of BERRY DELICIOUS
Hat-trick of wins - Berry Delicious sprinted through along the rails
