Race-by-Race Summary

RACE 1: McGrath Estate Agents Handicap 1250m

  • Vanbrugh – Change of tactics - to be ridden further forward: settled off-pace. Approaching the 600m Vanbrugh, which was inclined to lay in, had to be steadied away from the heels of Let's Make It Rain (S. Clipperton), which shifted in when not quite clear. S. Clipperton was advised to ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground. Rider B. Shinn stated, as publicly announced, that he had to make a little bit of use of his mount to take up a more forward position, however, Vanbrugh was under pressure approaching the 400m and did not respond to his riding from that point. B. Shinn stated that he could offer no tangible excuse for the colt and indicated that it had previously performed well on a heavy track when resuming at Rosehill on Saturday 4 July. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Mr L. Prior, representing trainer Mr C. Waller, stated that the stable would look to find a firmer track for Vanbrugh and revert to the horse being ridden more quietly. He undertook to report back on the progress of the colt subsequent to the race.
  • Inner Circle – jumped awkwardly.
  • Tatoosh – was inclined to lay in towards the heels of Let's Make It Rain approaching the 100m and then, when Let's Make It Rain (S. Clipperton) shifted out slightly over the concluding stages, Tatoosh was inconvenienced and taken wider. S. Clipperton was advised to stop riding and straighten when his mount commenced to shift.
  • Turbo Miss – jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

RACE 2: TAB Place Multi Handicap 1550m

  • Aurora Glow – Change of tactics – to be ridden further forward: Settled off-pace.
  • Seeking Asylum – laid out under pressure over the final 150 metres. Shortly after straightening Seeking Asylum, which was held up, had to be checked off the heels of I Bought A Horse as that runner was taken out when Aurora Glow improved around the heels of Prince Roo. In this incident, Seeking Asylum had to be taken out across the heels of Angel's Touch to find clear ground.
  • Fashion Sniptz – was inconvenienced near the 150m.
  • I Bought A Horse – H. Bowman, when questioned, stated that he had to niggle his mount throughout the race in an endeavour to get it to concentrate, but it was a beaten runner on the home turn. Rounding the home turn, Balboa Park, I Bought A Horse and Aurora Glow came into contact as Aurora Glow unsuccessfully tried to come away from the rails to improve around the leader, Prince Roo. A post-race veterinary examination of I Bought A Horse did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr J. McArdle advised that I Bought A Horse will now be spelled and gelded.
  • Joueur – When questioned regarding Joueur being ridden back in the field, G. Schofield stated that his instructions were to avoid being caught wide from barrier 8, and he therefore elected to restrain rather than be caught three wide at the first turn. Co-trainer J. Cummings stated that the instructions today had been similar to Joueur's last start at Kembla Grange on Monday 6 July 2015 when it settled midfield from its inside gate. He added today that, whilst not tying G. Schofield to any specific instructions, it was apparent that from the wide barrier, rather than risk being trapped wide going into the first turn, G. Schofield elected to restrain and take up a trailing position.

RACE 3: More Than Ready @ Vinery Handicap 1900m

  • Danchai – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Stable representative Mr L. Prior could offer no explanation and indicated that the stable would now step Danchai up in distance. Mr Prior undertook to report if there was anything amiss with Danchai subsequent to the race.
  • Sir Mako – When questioned, T. Clark said that the performance of the gelding was disappointing and that it may not have handled today's tighter circuit. He added that Sir Mako seemed one-paced and may now appreciate a step up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Stable representative Mr L. Prior concurred that Sir Mako may not have handled the tighter track and said that the stable would step the horse up in distance at its next start. Mr Prior undertook to report if there was anything amiss with Sir Mako subsequent to the race.
  • Plutorius – Stable representative Mr M. Devery stated that the gelding had got its tongue over the bit and the stable would add a tongue tie to the gear at its next start.

RACE 4: The July Sprint 1100m

  • Decision Time – A post-race veterinary examination revealed Decision Time to be displaying a poor recovery rate.

RACE 5: Bledisloe Cup Festival Handicap 1250m

  • Testashadow – Taken wide on home turn.
  • Reigning Meteor – When questioned, B. Shinn stated that the gelding was not suited to the tempo and overraced badly when caught wide early. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr M. Williams said that Reigning Meteor can be a headstrong horse and he had been looking to step it up in distance but would now reassess the race plans. He undertook to report if there was anything amiss with the gelding subsequent to the race.
  • Burnt Bridges – Slow to begin. Burnt Bridges shifted out to improve near the 400m and came into contact with Testashadow, which was in turn taken out on to Cramant.
  • Slydini – As no riders were available at the weight to ride Slydini, permission was granted to Trainer Mr J. Pride not to declare a rider on the gelding at rider declaration time. T. Berry was notified on Friday 24 July 2015. Slydini began very awkwardly and made contact with Global Domination. Slydini was then buffeted for some distance shortly after the start between Global Domination, Cramant and I Am Impressed, which shifted out. T. Berry stated that as a result his mount raced further back than had been intended. Slydini was held up and unable to improve over the final 50 metres.
  • Cramant – Taken wide on home turn.

RACE 6: TAB Rewards Handicap 1250m

  • Coolring – H. Bowman, rider of 3rd placegetter Coolring, stated that he was obliged to stop riding close to the line when the gap between the first two placegetters commenced to tighten due to Boss Lane shifting out.
  • Forget – Held up early in the straight before taking a narrow run between the tiring Alias and Breakfast In Bed passing the 300m.
  • Alias – T. Berry explained that his mount dipped in the going at the 600m and was not fully comfortable in its action thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

RACE 7: Jimmy Wood Memorial Handicap 1100m

  • Miniature – jumped awkwardly.
  • Miss Tenpins – B. Avdulla stated that he had to make use of the filly to hold the lead but that Miss Tenpins never appeared to be comfortable in the conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr B. Baker stated that Miss Tenpins had a hard run to win at Canterbury first up on 8 July 2015 and was dropping back in distance. An inquiry was adjourned so that Mr Baker may produce the results of a full veterinary check.
  • Echo Gal – Rider B. Shinn stated that the filly was fractious in its stall and began awkwardly, and as a result he was crossed shortly after the start as the filly was unable to muster sufficient early speed. He added that Echo Gal was disappointing and was a beaten horse at the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Stable representative Mr M. Newnham stated that the filly is best suited when able to dictate terms, particularly on firmer tracks. He undertook to report back as to how the filly pulled up subsequent to the event.

RACE 8: TAB.COM.AU Handicap 1550m

  • Hollywood Bound – jumped awkwardly. B. Shinn was questioned as to whether he had ridden his mount out fully over the final strides of the event. B. Shinn stated that he was aware that the eventual 3rd placegetter, Keepit To Yourself, was finishing hard, but he felt that he kept pushing his mount right out to the finishing line. Whilst the Stewards accepted that he had not completely stopped riding, he was told that in future he must ensure that he maintains his vigour and does not leave his placing in any doubt.
  • Off The Rails – At the 400m Off The Rails became awkward on the heels of Great Esteem, which shifted out to improve.
  • Unique – knuckled over on jumping.
  • I'm In The Money – T. Berry stated that his mount raced keenly early and, after dipping in the going near the 600m, failed to finish off its race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr J. Englebrecht agreed with T. Berry and undertook to report back on the mare's progress.
  • Keepit To Yourself – At the 500m Keepit To Yourself was checked when tightened for room between Hollywood Bound and Off The Rails, which was taken out by Great Esteem. Whilst Stewards accepted that the shift by Great Esteem was only slight, H. Bowman was advised to take more care in similar circumstances.
