Vet Notes

  • Reward The Maid (Race 3) -  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Hifranc (Race 6) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a throat abnormality and was also lame in the near hind leg. Post race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Friar Fox (Race 7) -  A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and a swab sample was taken for analysis.

Penalties & Fines

  • Apprentice Ethan Brown (Race 3) (Kaplumpich) - apprentice Ethan Brown was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip for two consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
  • Brian Werner (Race 5) (Sir Kalahad) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of Gold Fields which was steadied away from the heels of Sir Kalahad. Brian Werner had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight November 23rd and to expire at the conclusion of the day meeting on November 30th, a total of eight race meetings (two metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and record and that the carelessness was in the low range.
  • Michael Dee (Race 7) (Cuban Belle) - was fined the sum of $400 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip nine times prior to the 100m, which is four times more than permitted.

Race 1 - The Big Screen Company Plate - 1400m:

  • Ultimate Quest - connections advised would be ridden further back from the wide draw; after beginning awkwardly settled towards the rear of the field, however raced keenly getting its head up on several occasions. Was carried wider on the track passing the 700m by Logan River which shifted out to improve.
  • Logan River - commenced awkwardly. Rider Luke Currie could offer no explanation for the performance, which was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Darcy Ekcels (NZ) - commenced awkwardly.
  • Bianco Nuovo - raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
  • Casino Delight - apprentice Stephanie Thornton was of the opinion that the filly did not appreciate the step up in distance and indicated that the stable may now send it for a spell. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 2 - MyPunter.com Plate - 1200m:

  • Deokyhe - Stewards permitted the removal of the tongue tie from the fillys gear as she had never raced in one before and was resenting it when it was applied. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Dirty Digby - commenced awkwardly and shifted outwards abruptly.
  • Yarrinup Flyer - was carried out shortly after the start by Dirty Digby.
  • Ordell - commenced awkwardly. When racing ungenerously passing the 800m, got its head up when being restrained when racing in restricted room between Fight To The End and Yarrinup Flyer, which was racing tightly to its outside.
  • My Pendant (NZ) - raced wide without cover throughout.
  • Sora - passing the 50m shifted in and away from My Pendant which had also shifted in at this stage.
  • Germanotta - rider Joe Bowditch could offer no explanation for the performance, which was below expectations.

Race 3 - Spicer Thoroughbreds Handicap - 1200m:

  • Reward The Maid - began awkwardly. Over-raced getting its head in the air on several occasions in the early and middle stages, refusing to settle. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • River Star - began awkwardly.
  • Snitz And The City - knuckled on jumping away.
  • Zoubo - lost its off fore plate in running.
  • Kaplumpich - apprentice Ethan Brown was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip for two consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

Race 4 - Ladbrokes Handicap - 1600m:

  • North Afrika - connections advised would be ridden with cover; was unable to obtain cover and led.
  • Charlton - slow to begin.
  • Reliable Dame (NZ) - slow to begin.
  • Stornaway - commenced awkwardly. Raced keenly, having to be eased passing the 1200m when the pace slackened.
  • Von Mystic - commenced awkwardly and lost ground. After being held up from the 400m, was steadied out to obtain clear running approaching the 200m.
  • Ruby Skye - near the 1300m when the pace slackened, was steadied outwards when racing keenly.
  • Exasperate - raced keenly in the early stages.
  • Black And Tan - near the 800m was eased to avoid the heels of Stornaway which shifted out.
  • Grosvenor Bridge (NZ) - raced wide without cover throughout. Apprentice Ethan Brown could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 5 - Le Pine Funerals Handicap - 1400m:

  • Wyangle - bumped on jumping away by Mr Exclusive.
  • Mr Exclusive - on jumping was taken out onto Wyangle by Sir Kalahad which shifted out.
  • Sir Kalahad - commenced awkwardly making contact with Mr Exclusive. Raced keenly in the early stages.
  • Famelist - commenced awkwardly and was then hampered by Extreme Bliss, which shifted out slightly.
  • Moet Rose - commenced awkwardly.
  • Gold Fields - near the 1000m was checked to avoid the heels of Sir Kalahad (Brian Werner) which shifted out when not fully clear.
  • The Mighty Jrod (NZ) - raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
  • Forsure - rider Chris Symons reported that his mount was not suited by todays track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

  • Da Deputy - after being fractious and rearing in its starting stall, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.
  • All Hard Wood - over-raced in the early stages.
  • Crafty Cruiser - raced wide in the early and middle stages. Near the 1000m was hampered by King Way (USA) which shifted out.
  • Havana Haymaker - approaching the 200m was inconvenienced when attempting a narrow run.
  • King Way (USA) - apprentice Stephanie Thornton was of the opinion that the gelding may be at the end of its preparation.
  • Hifranc - a post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a throat abnormality and was also lame in the near hind leg. Post race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

Race 7 - Araza Handicap - 2100m:

  • Sweet Mischief - connections advised would be ridden with cover; settled in a position one out and one back with cover.
  • Cabierro - commenced awkwardly and was then hampered by The Donchess which shifted out slightly. Near the 1600m got its head up when being steadied off heels.
  • Tubbs Gift - commenced awkwardly.
  • Crafty Devil - commenced awkwardly.
  • Miss Danni - raced wide in the early stages until being allowed to stride forward to a position outside the leader near the 1400m.
  • The Donchess - apprentice Chelsea MacFarlane was spoken to advisedly and reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out fully to the finish of the race.
  • Pierrocity - when questioned regarding the tactics adopted, rider Dwayne Dunn stated that he had been instructed to settle the mare further back, as compared to its most previous start, however he noted on the occasions prior to this when he had ridden it, it had settled in a similar position. Co-trainer Trent Busuttin stated that it had not been the intention to settle forward last start, and the intention today was to ride it in a manner similar to its previous starts. Stewards noted his explanation however reminded him of his obligations regarding notifying Stewards of tactical changes.
  • Cuban Belle - when questioned as to the seemingly improved performance trainer Pat Carey stated that the mares performance at Kyneton was out of character and further, it may have appreciated the bigger track and being allowed to lead unchallenged. Rider Michael Dee was fined the sum of $400 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip nine times prior to the 100m, which is four times more than permitted.
  • Friar Fox - rider John Allen stated that his mount was disappointing and laid out rounding the home turn and in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and a swab sample was taken for analysis.

Race 8 - The Jacqualene Hare Memorial - 1200m:

  • Comrade Ned - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3.15pm after injuring itself in the float en route to the course.
  • Rushard - proved difficult to load which delayed the start of the race and the gelding must now obtain further approval in a jump out prior to racing again. Inconvenienced near the 1000m.
  • Ocean Deep (NZ) - connections advised would be ridden further forward; settled in a position just behind the leaders. Raced keenly in the early stages.
  • Its A Myth - slow to begin.
  • Blood Oath - commenced awkwardly. When racing keenly in the early stages got its head up when attempting to gain a position with cover.
  • Breaker Of Chains - raced keenly in the early stages.
  • Moonlight Ruby - after being caught wide in the early stages, was permitted to stride forward and take up a position outside the leader near the 800m.
  • Uptown Lilly - after initially being taken in off its course by Ocean Deep (NZ) near the 1000m, then shifted in away from that mare and as a result Rushard, which was following, was inconvenienced. Rider Linda Meech reported that she was obliged to race closer to the rail than she had intended and was of the view that the mare did not appreciate the todays track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Indernile - rider Patrick Moloney reported that his mount was very disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
