Top 5 Early Insights @ Rosehill Gardens

Published: 30 Jul 2015

Big finisher - Turbulent Jet can produce a big finish on his favourite track

The sun is shining in Sydney and the sodden Rosehill Gardens track is drying ever so slowly after a Winter of wet weather. We could get to the better side of SOFT by race day, much different conditions to the last few weeks.

Finding the right horse for the day will be key to ending up a winner. Each thoroughbred is profiled in The Race Guides, including Track and Conditions Ratings, which are published on-line Friday morning.

Until then, the Analyst Team have listed their Top 5 Early Insights below.

1 - Bias the Key

Mares races are often pretty tricky affairs, especially when they are all well-exposed and the handicapper has their measure.

Race 3 looks like a tough one to bet on, but when races are as even as this one, betting on BIAS is a good way to turn a profit.

If leaders are winning after the first two events, tough on-pacers MARDI, AEROBAR, COMMANDING WIT and FOOTY FAN are good enough to dominate the finish. Waller's SENSE AND REASON and BERRIMILLA will be hoping gallopers can run on from the back.

Tune into @TheRaceGuide for BIAS updates this weekend.

Bias in her favour? - Aerobar would enjoy an on-pace bias this weekend

2 - Weight Matters

Some of the apprentices are making a name for themselves during the off-season. They're riding in great form, plus the weight relief of their 'claim' can make a big difference.

GHOST PROTOCOL (Serg Lisnyy) and TURBULENT JET (Winona Costin) are both very well-placed and can get into the finish.

Well weighted - Ghost Protocol could get into the places at big odds

3 - Rather Be Anywhere Else

It's interesting that many of the sprinters in Race 5 (1,300 metres) don't find their best ratings at Rosehill.

IDANCE, COUNTRYMAN, COOLRING and ADORABEEL all prefer to race on more testing surfaces and could be under the odds in early markets.

Likes other tracks - The leaner athletic Idance doesn't find his best at Rosehill

4 - Left High and Dry

The feature race of the day is the Winter Challenge, a race in which many of the Winter open-class gallopers line up again.

The problem for many of them is that they love wet conditions. Horses like RUGGED CROSS, WOULDN'T IT BE NICE, EIGELSTEIN and NOELA'S CHOICE won't want the sun to shine too brightly.

YOU'LL NEVER is one of only a couple of horses that can hold their ratings on a drier Rosehill track.

Handles most conditions - You'll Never is one of only a few 'dry trackers' in his race

5 - Fitter Now

ORUJO wasn't ready to roll first-up at Randwick and he produced a much better effort behind the talented Lord Leofric last time out.

He's a horse that has finished within a length of The Quarterback and will be hard to beat third-up on a drier track this weekend.

Ready to win - Orujo finds the right race this weekend
