Race-by-Race Summary

RACE 1 – TAB.com.au Handicap 1200m

  • Holy Delusions – jumped awkwardly.
  • Hard To Hold – rider C Reith stated that he was caught wide throughout, but moreover he is of the view that the mare is best suited with tracks that have more give in them. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 2 – Sky Racing Handicap 1200m

  • Inz’N’Out – when questioned concerning the winner Inz’N’Out leading, trainer Mr G Ryan reaffirmed the advice he gave to Stewards earlier this afternoon that it was his intention to have Inz’N’Out ridden behind the pace because it responded well to these tactics at Rosehill on Saturday, 1 August 2015. Rider J Parr stated that his race plan had been to take up a one out one back or one out two back position, dependent on the speed of the race and upon how Inz’N’Out began. When Inz’N’Out began extremely well, and Marseille Roulette, drawn to its immediate inside, began awkwardly and made contact with its offside gate, J Parr stated that he began half a length in front of Marseille Roulette and after a couple of strides, was a length in front of that runner. He added that his options then were to restrain, which probably would have seen him caught three wide from his barrier, or take advantage of Inz’N’Out beginning so well, cross to the rail and endeavour to give the gelding the easiest run possible.
  • El Sasso – overraced in the early stages.
  • Selectify – when questioned, rider B Avdulla stated that he was advised to ride his mount with cover. He stated on jumping away, when El Sasso, which had drawn to his inside, did not cross to the rail, he elected to ease and raced on that runner's back rather than be caught three wide outside it. He stated that he then shifted out and travelled three wide with cover on the back of Nothing Like Luca, but irrespective, his mount's effort was disappointing. At the 1000m, Selectify was inconvenienced when Turf Crusher shifted out.
  • Himalaya Dream – when questioned, T Berry stated that Himalaya Dream performed well winning a trial at Rosehill on 21 July 2015, but after travelling well to the turn, he was surprised in that the gelding compounded quickly. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes advised that Himalaya Dream had done well and trialled well leading into today's race. He stated that there had been no setbacks or issues in its preparation and acknowledged the performance first up of Himalaya Dream was most disappointing. A post race veterinary examination found Himalaya Dream to be coughing and the inquiry was adjourned so the stable may present the results of a full veterinary check, including an endoscopic examination.
  • Turf Crusher – over the final 50m, was held up and unable to be tested when racing on the back of Marseille Roulette.
  • Nothing Like Luca – a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 3 – Lindblad Expeditions Handicap 2000m

  • Dream Folk – App W Costin stated that when the pace slowed approaching the first turn, Dream Folk took charge of her and she was unable to restrain her mount. She stated that she would have been content to have raced to the girth of Duccio, but Dream Folk continued to pull hard and pulled its way to the lead.

RACE 4 – The Rosebud 1200m

  • Vanbrugh – change of tactics to be ridden further back; settled midfield.
  • Rageese – was badly buffeted and had to be checked on jumping away between Sebring Sun, which shifted out and away from Zoutenant, and Vanbrugh, which was taken in by Can Be Bossy, which jumped away awkwardly. Rider T Berry stated that after this interference, his mount refused to settle and raced too keenly in the middle stages. He added that he followed the winner Sebring Sun into the straight, but racing first up, having pulled hard and carrying a big weight, in his opinion, told over the final 150m whereby his run peaked. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes stated that he felt Rageese's chances were severally diminished when it was interfered with and relegated back to last at the start.

RACE 5 – The Wallabies Cup 1600m

  • Darci Magic – struck the running rail at the 1000m and became unbalanced for a few strides.
  • Orion Love – the Stewards received a report from Surveillance and Intelligence Unit members Mr N Haywood and Mr N Ryan that at 9am this morning, they entered the stables of trainer Mr L Baudron at Bull Street, Warwick Farm and observed an oily patch on the offside neck of Orion Love. Photographs were tendered, as was Mr Baudron's treatment book, which showed no treatments to Orion Love since 17 May 2015. Mr Baudron tendered a veterinary report at today's Inquiry indicating that the last treatments to Orion Love by Warwick Farm Equine Centre were on 30 July 2015 and that he had rehydrated the mare with a drip after its work at Warwick Farm on Tuesday, 4 August 2015. After taking evidence from Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian, Dr C Suann, the Stewards withdrew Orion Love at 1.53pm. Mr Baudron pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(j) of directing an improper remark to Surveillance Unit member Mr N Ryan as Mr Baudron left the Stewards’ room and again as he re-entered the Stewards’ room during the course of the Inquiry. Mr Baudron was fined the sum of $1,000. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account this was Mr Baudron's first offence of this nature. Blood and urine samples were taken from Orion Love and the Inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed pending receipt of the analytical results.

RACE 6 – McGrath Estate Agents Missile Stakes 1200m

  • Aomen – was a late withdrawal at 9.25am on veterinary advice due to filling in its near hind fetlock. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to Aomen racing again.
  • Liberty's Choice – was slow to begin. Rider N Rawiller stated his mount did not begin well but travelled comfortably in the run. He added that in the softer going in the home turn, Liberty's Choice appeared to lose confidence and failed to finish the race off. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • See The World – which was travelling strongly passing the 800m, overreacted, threw its head up and lost ground when racing in restricted room to the inside of Liberty's Choice.

RACE 7 – TAB Place Multi Handicap 1000m

  • Darciwood – lost ground at the start (2L) when tightened for room between Lyric, which shifted in slightly, and Straturbo, which shifted out after jumping awkwardly. When questioned concerning the performance of Darciwood, rider T Berry stated that with the extremely fast pace, Darciwood was never able to travel on the bit as compared to its win on a Heavy (10) track surface on this track on 11 July 2015 where it was able to race closer. He added that Darciwood is a horse with a short finishing burst and that because it was so far out of its ground, he attempted to work into the race at the 600m and pushed his mount hard from the 500m. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes stated that after striking interference at the start, getting as far as back as it did, and with the last 600m being run in 33.7, the task of Darciwood making up its ground became extremely difficult. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr Hawkes undertook to report back if there was anything amiss with Darciwood subsequent to the race.
  • Sweet Serendipity – when questioned concerning the fast early pace, App J Taylor stated that she realised that Sweet Serendipity was going far too hard in the lead, but attributed that to the blinkers going on after winning two trials this preparation without that gear. As a result, she stated that Sweet Serendipity compounded badly in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 8 – TAB Rewards Handicap 1800m

  • Pico Turquino – overraced in the middle stages.
  • Maevemoo – overraced in the middle stages. Maevemoo had to be steadied away from the heels of Pico Turquino (G Schofield), which shifted in near the 200m. G Schofield was advised to make more effort to keep his mount straight.
  • Montrer Dame – was held up on the heels of Queen Of Sheba over the final 100m.
