Vet Notes

  • Ronstar (Race 2) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 2/5 lame in the off foreleg. Stable representative Miss L Wadsworth advised that Ronstar had pleased the stable leading into today's race and had displayed no lameness. Miss Wadsworth was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the geldings next race start. Miss Wadsworth advised consideration would now be given to spelling Ronstar.
  • Etymology (Race 4) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying heat stress. Stable representative Mr D Beadman was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Etymology being permitted to race again.
  • Gamblestown (Race 4) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 1/5 lame in the off foreleg. Stable representative Miss H Devlin was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Gamblestown being permitted to race.
  • Kilmacurragh (Race 5) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover.
  • Deft (Race 6) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed Deft to be slow to recover.
  • With Purpose (Race 6) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be 2/5 lame in the near foreleg. Co-Trainer Mr E O'Rourke was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to With Purpose being permitted to race again.
  • Destiny's Own (Race 8) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed Destiny's Own to be 2/5 lame in the near hindleg. Trainer Mr G Ryan advised the horse would now be gelded and spelled however was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse racing again.
  • Victime De L'Amour (Race 8) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed Victime De L'Amour to be 2/5 lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr T Martin was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
  • Lisdoonvarna (Race 9) – A postrace veterinary examination revealed the mare to be 1/5 lame in the near foreleg. Co Trainer A Turner was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to Lisdoonvarna being permitted to race again.

Penalties & Fines

  • App J Van Overmeire, rider of Bridyn May was fined the sum of $400 under AR137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.
  • J Deamer, Trainer of Bon Amis was fined the sum of $200 under LR35 for failing to declare G Scofield as the rider of the gelding by the prescribed time.

Summary of Races

RACE 1: Roadwork Solutions Handicap 1200m

  • Kiamichi – Was inclined to race greenly when under pressure in the straight.
  • Baileys – Despite being ridden along, failed to muster speed and was then shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 700m became unbalanced when placed close to the running rail. Inside the 50m was shifted to the inside of Creator to continue into clear running.
  • Creator – Slow to begin. When questioned rider K McEvoy advised that the colt raced like a horse that was looking for a step up in distance and in the circumstances was not dissatisfied with his performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Elon – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Laid in in the straight.

RACE 2: 2019 Membership Handicap 1400m

  • Ronstar – When questioned App S Weatherley stated that the gelding began awkwardly and made contact with Zalatte. He added that whilst Ronstar was able to take up a handy position his mount did not travel satisfactorily throughout the event and when he became concerned with the gelding's action in the straight, he eased his mount down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 2/5 lame in the off foreleg. Stable representative Miss L Wadsworth advised that Ronstar had pleased the stable leading into today's race and had displayed no lameness. Miss Wadsworth was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the geldings next race start. Miss Wadsworth advised consideration would now be given to spelling Ronstar.
  • Beidi – When questioned rider G Schofield confirmed his instructions were to be more forward today and said from his wide barrier Beidi did not show sufficient early pace to take up a prominent position. He added as a result he elected, from his wide barrier, to shift behind runners to obtain cover. When commencing to finish the race off reasonably well Beidi was steadied near the 50m when disappointed for a run between Reelem in Ruby and Baller (T Berry) which shifted out. T Berry was advised to exercise more care.
  • Zalatte – On jumping was bumped on the hindquarter by Ronstar and became unbalanced.
  • Irish Songs – Stewards permitted T Clark to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 53kg.

RACE 3: TAB Highway Handicap 1400m

  • Chewbacca – Lost its near hind plate on route to the barriers. Was replated, underwent a veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to race. Knuckled on jumping.
  • Hemmerle – Slipped over in the tie up stalls, was examined by the club's Veterinary Officer and deemed suitable to race. Laid in in the early and middle stages.
  • Bridyn May – Bumped on jumping. App J Van Overmeire was fined the sum of $400 under AR137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.
  • Daiquiri Lass – When questioned rider R King advised that the intention was to be more forward on the mare but when unable to obtain a position with cover in the early stages, she elected to come back in an attempt to find cover. She said that when Only Choice held its position to her inside, she was left racing four wide and without cover. She further stated in her opinion the mare was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off as it was under pressure from as far out as the 600m.
  • Blue Collar Boy – After being slow to begin, shifted out and made contact with Bridyn May. Leaving the 600m was checked when crowded between Only Choice and Vega De Lago (App R Dolan) which shifted out whilst inclined to hang out. App R Dolan was reprimanded under AR137(a). In Issuing a reprimand Stewards found R Dolan had made an attempt to prevent his mount from shifting out but for a short distance near the 600m had relaxed on his mount which resulted in it shifting ground at that point.
  • Roy's Command – On jumping was hampered when bumped by Only Choice which shifted out. Raced wide and without cover throughout.
  • Vivendi – Stewards permitted S Miller to ride the mare 1kg over its allotted weight of 53kg.
  • Takarakka – Bumped with Hemmerle on jumping and then shortly after the start blundered. In the early stages raced keenly and near the 1000m was steadied from the heels of Our Rosemaree.

RACE 4: Summer Racing Handicap

  • Abdon – After being slow to begin was crowded shortly after by Etymology which shifted in. Raced keenly in the middle stages. In the early part of the straight when inclined to lay in was shifted to the outside of Merovee to secure clear running.
  • Etymology – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying heat stress. Stable representative Mr D Beadman was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Etymology being permitted to race again.
  • Gamblestown – When questioned rider J Ford advised that in his view the gelding may not have appreciated the quick back up from Warwick Farm Wednesday 5 December 2018 as the gelding was under pressure from the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 1/5 lame in the off foreleg. Stable representative Miss H Devlin was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Gamblestown being permitted to race.

RACE 5: ATC Tipping Competition Handicap 1400m

  • Sir Bacchus – When questioned App S Weatherley advised his mount commenced well and as result he was able to settle in a midfield position. He said that near the 600m when taken wider Sir Bacchus commenced to race ungenerously. He added that soon after entering the straight when placed under pressure his mount was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding. S Weatherley stated this may have been due to the gelding racing second up after a strong first up performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Mapmaker – On straightening was held up on the heels of Kilmacurragh and near the 350m was steadied when disappointed for clear running between Kilmacurragh and Man Of Peace which shifted out. Mapmaker was then held up for clear running until near the 200m.
  • Smartedge – Leaving the 500m was steadied off the heels of Bye See. Smartedge was then briefly held up on the home turn.
  • Onslaught – Slow to begin. Near the 900m was steadied to avoid the heels of Kilmacurragh which was taken in by Irithea (J Van Overmeire) which shifted in when not clear. J Van Overmeire was reprimanded under AR137(a) and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
  • Generalissimo – Near the 500m endeavoured to improve into a run between Mapmaker and Bye See where there was doubtful room which resulted in Generalissimo making contact with the hindquarter of Bye See resulting in Bye See becoming unbalanced and Generalissimo having to be checked. T Clark rider of Generalissimo was cautioned against the practice of improving his position where there is insufficient room to do so.
  • Kilmacurragh – Stewards permitted T Berry to ride the gelding 1kg over its allotted weight of 53kg. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover.
  • Bye See – Blundered shortly after the start.

RACE 6: TAB Rewards Handicap 1400m

  • Hussterical – Soon after the start knuckled.
  • Nicci's Gold – Slow to begin and from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. When being shifted behind runners became awkwardly placed close to the heels of Sweet Victory and had to be steadied. Overraced in the early stages. Approaching the 600m was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of Velocita.
  • Sweet Victory – Began only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
  • Velocita – Hampered on jumping.
  • Deft – When questioned rider G Schofield advised that in his view the mare would be better suited racing on a track with more give in it. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Deft to be slow to recover.
  •  Bella Success – Bumped on jumping.
  • With Purpose – Raced wide and without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be 2/5 lame in the near foreleg. Co-Trainer Mr E O'Rourke was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to With Purpose being permitted to race again.

RACE 7: Merry Christmas ATC Members Sprint

  • Albumin – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than the gelding lost its near fore plate.
  • Tango Rain – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than the gelding to have lost its off fore plate.
  • Bon Amis – Trainer J Deamer was fined the sum of $200 under LR35 for failing to declare G Scofield as the rider of the gelding by the prescribed time.
  • Single Bullet – Was crowded on jumping between Bon Amis and Niccobelle. From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Rider T Berry was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
  • Viceroy – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Shifted in on jumping and bumped with Niccobelle. Laid in under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than gelding to have lost its off fore plate.
  • Jorda – Began only fairly. After being held up for some distance near the 300m on the heels of Slow Burn, inside the 300m made contact on a number of occasions with Coruscate as it obtained a tight run between Coruscate and Slow Burn.
  • Slow Burn – Raced wide and without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
  • Junglized – Raced keenly in the middle stages and for some distance near the 700m was awkwardly placed on the heels of Tango Rain.
  • Niccolance – Shortly after the start was bumped by Ever So Natural and became unbalanced. Over the final 50m could be not tested when held up on the heels of Niccobelle.
  • Isorich – Slow to begin. Over the concluding stages could not be fully tested when racing tight between Niccobelle which was giving ground and Viceroy which shifted in.

RACE 8: Christmas At The Gardens Handicap 1500m

  • Beijing Board – Slow to begin.
  • Asterius – Began awkwardly.
  • Reflectivity – Was slow to begin and shortly after was hampered by Asterius which shifted in.
  • Laussel – Slow to begin.
  • Destiny's Own – Rider T Clark reported that his mount travelled strongly into the straight and after initially responding to his riding the horse commenced to weaken near the 200m and when he had some concerns with its action over the final 50m he eased over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Destiny's Own to be 2/5 lame in the near hindleg. Trainer Mr G Ryan advised the horse would now be gelded and spelled however was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse racing again.
  • Victime De L'Amour – When questioned rider J Innes could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Victime De L'Amour to be 2/5 lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr T Martin was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

RACE 9: Australian Turf Club Handicap 1300m

  • Dalmatia Prince – Slow to begin.
  • Conarchie – Began awkwardly. Rider J Innes stated his intention was to take up a handy position on the gelding with an emphasise to travel on the bridle. He added in the early stages when racing tight to the inside of Lisdoonvarna he was unable to hold that position and as consequence Conarchie settled further back than he had intended. He further added that in the middle stages when positioned behind Lisdoonvarna he was reluctant to ride his mount along to maintain that position and this resulted in Dunatun being able to establish running in advance of him resulting in Conarchie being shuffled back in the field. He added on straightening he was disappointed for clear running to the outside of Dunatun and was obliged to shift to that runners inside at the 300m where he secured clear running. J Innes stated that in hindsight his best option would have been to make more of an effort to maintain his position behind Lisdoonvarna to ensure Conarchie did not race as far back in the field.
  • Lisdoonvarna – Rider P Wells could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the mare. A postrace veterinary examination revealed the mare to be 1/5 lame in the near foreleg. Co Trainer A Turner was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to Lisdoonvarna being permitted to race again.
  • Good Weather – Near the 150m blundered resulting in its rider A Hyeronimus becoming unbalanced.
  • Dunatun – As no apprentice was available to claim their full allowance. Stewards permitted R King to be substituted as the rider of the gelding after for App S Weatherley had been stood down by the Club's Doctor.
  • Moet Rose – Stewards permitted T Berry to ride the mare 0.5kg over its allotted weight of 53.5kg.
  • Tiger By The Tale – Shortly after the start was bumped when crowded by Discussions which shifted in.
  • Redouble – Slow to begin and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
