Vet Notes

  • Dark Pools (Race 1) -  A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
  • Cant Refuse (Race 2) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have heat stress.
  • Gheedaa  (Race 2) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have heat stress and the stable confirmed Gheedaa would now be spelled.
  • Cleos Poet  (Race 4) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery and the thumps.
  • Prairie Fire (Race 5) -  A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt to have a slow recovery and heat stress.
  • Fastnet Latina (IRE) (Race 6) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
  • Swacadelic (GER) (Race 7) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. The gelding was also found to have cardiac arrhythmia and as this is the third occasion, this will be referred to the RV Veterinary Department.
  • Kiwia – (Race 7) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have heat stress.
  • Runaway (Race 7)  - A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Pilote Dessai (GB) (Race 7) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have heat stress.
  • Dal Harraild (GB) (Race 7) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained an injury to its off fore fetlock and was treated accordingly.
  • Choisborder (Race 8) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery and was also lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

Penalties & Fines

  • Clayton Douglas (Champagne Cocktail) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding along when not clear of Its A Myth which was checked. Clayton Douglas licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight December 8th and to expire at midnight December 19th, a total of eleven race meetings (four metropolitan, seven provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea, record and that the carelessness was in the mid-range.
  • Ben Allen (Mr Quickie) - pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip twelve times prior to the 100m, which is seven times more than permitted. Ben Allens permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight December 8th and to expire at midnight December 20th, a total of twelve race meetings (four metropolitan, eight provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his poor record under this rule and the totality of his whip use.

Summary of Races 

Race 1 - John Duff & Co 3YO BM70 Handicap - 1000m:

  • Another Bit - had its tongue tie adjusted at the barriers which delayed the start slightly. Bumped at the start by Dark Pools.
  • All In Brawl - began awkwardly. Got its head up when over-racing in the early stages. Rider Ben Melham could offer no excuse for the performance of the gelding. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Dark Pools - began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Another Bit. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
  • Star Fall - began awkwardly.
  • Symphonette - after commencing to over-race, shifted out across the heels of Another Bit near the 700m.
  • Divine Mr Tycoon - laid in under pressure in the straight.
  • Grandview Avenue - apprentice Lachlan King explained he was instructed to ride the gelding quieter with the blinkers off. Trainer Simon Ryan stated with the blinkers off, he had anticipated the horse settling behind the speed, however as the gelding was backing up quickly from its start on December 2nd at Warrnambool and with the long float trip for todays meeting, it got further back than intended and he indicated that Grandview Avenue will now be spelled. Mr Ryan was notified of his obligation to notify any proposed changes of tactics.

Race 2 - Hanson BM70 Handicap - 1600m:

  • Cant Refuse - connections advised would ridden closer; after being slow to begin settled at the rear of the field. Apprentice Liam Riordan reported he was not happy with the horses action on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have heat stress.
  • North Afrika - connections advised would be ridden with cover; settled in a handy position with cover.
  • Ubin Thunderstruck (NZ) - slow to begin.
  • Gheedaa - apprentice Lachlan King reported his mount raced flat and may be at the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have heat stress and the stable confirmed Gheedaa would now be spelled.

The track was upgraded from Good 4 to Good 3 at 1.38pm after the running of this race.

Race 3 - Fulmen Park F&M BM78 Handicap - 1400m:

  • Its A Myth - fourth placegetter; prior to correct weight rider Craig Williams viewed the patrol film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Slow to begin. Near the 200m was checked to avoid the heels of Champagne Cocktail. Rider Craig Williams reported his mount made an unusual respiratory noise. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Teodora - stood flat footed and lost ground (four lengths) and a warning will be placed on the mares record.
  • Another Bullseye - rider Patrick Moloney reported his mount would benefit from the first up run.

Race 4 - Grand Vue Springlands BM78 Handicap - 2000m:

  • Azurite (IRE) - third placegetter; prior to correct weight rider Jordan Childs viewed the patrol film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Inconvenienced near the 50m by Creedence, which shifted in abruptly before being straightened.
  • Creedence - slow to begin. Shifted in abruptly near the 50m and inconvenienced Azurite (IRE) before being straightened.
  • Cleos Poet - over-raced in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding her riding in the early stages, apprentice Tahlia Hope explained the gelding has a tendency to race keenly early and after beginning well and establishing a sizeable break on the field, she was unaware how big a break she had established and consequently, given its racing manners, allowed the horse to stride rather than try to settle it A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery and the thumps.
  • Junior Burger - raced three wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
  • Mr Quickie - raced three wide without cover from the 1200m.
  • Calibration - apprentice Ethan Brown dropped his whip near the 200m.
  • Savaheat (NZ) - steadied approaching the winning post to avoid the heels of Creedence, which had shifted out abruptly.
  • Into Rio (NZ) - rider Chris Symons reported the gelding raced poorly. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Golden Authority (NZ) - rider Linda Meech reported her mount did not feel right in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 5 - Nasahi AAC Plate - 1000m:

  • Prezado - began awkwardly.
  • Prairie Fire - began awkwardly. Near the 200m checked when tightened by Gibbon (Michael Poy), which shifted in to avoid the heels of Hay Bale, which when giving ground shifted in slightly, and as a result Prairie Fire bumped heavily with Wind Force, which in turn bumped Sovereign Duke. In the circumstances, no action was taken against any one rider. Rider Luke Currie reported the colt was only travelling moderately before receiving interference near the 200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt to have a slow recovery and heat stress.
  • Hay Bale - began awkwardly.
  • Kalashani Lad - began awkwardly and then got its head up when being steadied to take up a position closer to the rail.
  • Kakanui - shifted in slightly and knuckled after clipping the heel of Prezado near the 700m when Prezado shifted out.
  • Sovereign Duke - from the 400m raced in restricted room before bumping with Wind Force near the 200m.
  • Wind Force - from the 400m raced in restricted room and near the 200m bumped with Sovereign Duke on a number of occasions.
  • Nodoubtaboutit - apprentice Ethan Brown reported the mare had come to the end of its preparation and trainer Phillip Stokes stated the mare would now have a freshen up.

Race 6 - Schweppes David Bourke Memorial Handicap - 1600m:

  • Kilimanjaro (IRE) - slow to begin.
  • Fastnet Latina (IRE) - slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
  • Famelist - over-raced in the early stages.
  • Snoano (GB) - raced three wide without cover.
  • Civil Disobedience (NZ) - laid in under pressure in the straight.
  • Torgersen (NZ) - laid in under pressure in the straight.
  • Our Bottino - rider Damien Thornton could offer no explanation for the performance, which was below expectations. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 7 - Sportsbet Pakenham Cup (Listed) - 2500m:

  • Khartoum - slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover from the 1400m.
  • Swacadelic (GER) - slow to begin. Weakened from the 800m; rider Patrick Moloney stated he was not happy with his mounts action. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. The gelding was also found to have cardiac arrhythmia and as this is the third occasion, this will be referred to the RV Veterinary Department.

  • Dal Harraild (GB) - a post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained an injury to its off fore fetlock and was treated accordingly.

Race 8 - Racing.com VOBIS Gold Bullion - 1400m:

  • Choisborder - got its head up when over-racing in the early stages. Rider John Allen reported the gelding may not have run out the distance of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery and was also lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
  • Jesta Dreamer - raced three wide without cover.
  • Sam Slick - when shifting in near the 150m, steadied to avoid the heels of So Si Bon, which also shifted out at this point.

Race 9 - Sportsbet Racing Form Handicap - 1200m:

  • Good Project - connections advised would be ridden quieter from the wide gate; raced fiercely in the early stages and settled in a mid-field position. Passing the 1000m, when racing keenly with its head up, was tightened for room by Theanswermyfriend, which was also racing keenly and shifted in before being straightened.
  • Keen Array - connections advised would be ridden more forward; settled in a mid-field position.
  • Leodoro - slow to begin.
  • Glenrowan Prince - began awkwardly.
  • Toy Boy - raced three wide without cover throughout.
  • Sylpheed - held up from the 400m before gaining clear running passing the 200m.
  • Proud Wolf - lost its near fore plate in running.
  • Suspense - rider Luke Currie reported his mount felt short in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
