Top 5 Early Insights @ Royal Randwick

Published: 20 Aug 2015

Carnival star - First Seal kicks off her Spring campaign at Randwick on Saturday

It's been a long time since Race One on the card at Royal Randwick was a Group 3 feature.

That's the case this weekend, with five of the eight races at 'headquarters' rated as Group-level events. Classy Chris Waller gallopers KERMADEC and ROYAL DESCENT take on John Thompson's FIRST SEAL in the Warwick Stakes and lots of other Carnival types resume from a spell.

Ahead of The Race Guide's going on-line tomorrow, the Top 5 Early Insights are shown below.

1 - Waller Watch

Chris Waller brings a lot of good quality Carnival gallopers to the track first-up and reading the form guide doesn't give us much help.

He's the type of trainer that can 'mix up' his horses preparations, sometimes they will be fit and sometimes they won't!

Checking the mounting yard and bookies ring will be key for gallopers like AMICUS, BEATEN UP, HAWKSPUR, KERMADEC, ROYAL DESCENT and HEART TESTA.

Fit enough? - Amicus is a big watch in the mounting yard before the Toy Show Quality

2 - Catch Me If You Can

The Up and Coming Stakes is a competitive Group 3 for the three-year-years over 1,300 metres.

The powerful SEBRING SUN will be coiled up ready to produce a rapid sprint at the end, but he'll have to get past one of the tougher three-year-olds going around.

VOILIER can race on the pace and won't be easy to get past up in distance.

odds watch - VOILIER is $6 with CrownBet

Tough on-pacer - Voilier won't be easy to get past on Saturday

3 - Forgive and Forget

The Kim Waugh stable is in great form at the moment and their headline act is the strapping six-year-old son of Exceed And Excel FORGET.

He won two races in a row, beating subsequent winners Keepit To Yourself and Dragon Flyer, before finding a couple of races that didn't suit.

A BM 84 over 1,400 metres is the perfect race for him to bounce back.

odds watch - FORGET is $5.50 with CrownBet

Stable star - Forget can win again for the Kim Waugh stable this weekend

4 - Nice Tempo

There are quite a few on-pace gallopers in the Show County Quality, including the towering HOWMUCHDOYOULOVEME, COUNTRYMAN, BOSS LANE, VASHKA and AOMEN.

A FAIR to STRONG tempo is expected, which suits horses with a strong finishing surge.

WOULDN'T IT BE NICE could pounce late if the leaders go too hard.

odds watch - WOULDN'T IT BE NICE is $21 with CrownBet

Relishes a rapid tempo - Wouldn't It Be Nice has a strong finishing surge

5 - Good Looks Matter

The last race on the card has a few light-weight chances, including ARTIBAI, CHASTENED and ZAYAM.

Of those three, ZAYAM has the most potential on looks, a galloper with much more strength and scope than most others in the race.

odds watch - ZAYAM is $8.5 with Luxbet

Good looker - Zayam has looked good in the mounting yard this campaign
