Summary of Races

  • Lancaster Bomber – slow to begin.
  • Acoustix – raced wide and without cover throughout the event. On straightening was hampered and taken wider by Don’t Doubt Arthur (J Ford), which shifted out abruptly. J Ford was told to exercise more care in future.
  • Witherspoon – when questioned, rider C Brown explained that, after his mount began awkwardly, he was obliged to ride it along to take up a forward position, where the filly raced keenly outside the lead throughout the middle stages. He said that from the 400m, although responding initially to his riding, Witherspoon was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Enjoy Elsie – when questioned, rider T Berry explained that his mount travelled well in the lead, however, approaching the 400m the filly became quickly under pressure and commenced to weaken shortly after straightening. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes explained that the filly was unable to obtain an uncontested lead as it did at its most recent start and he felt this was the main reason for Enjoy Elsie weakening from the 400m. He added that it was now the stable’s intention to monitor the filly’s progress in the coming days and he would report back on the future racing plans. Acting on this advice, the matter was adjourned.
  • Don’t Doubt Arthur – when questioned regarding his riding approaching the home turn and as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the inside of Hostwin Saturn prior to straightening, J Ford explained that approaching the 300m, although he was aware a run was presenting itself to the inside of Hostwin Saturn, he was reluctant to halt his momentum to obtain that run and he therefore elected to shift to the outside of Hostwin Saturn on straightening to improve,
