Summary of Races

Race 1 - Blue Star Print Plate - 1300m:

  • Amanikan - slow to begin.
  • Scotch Oclock - began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover. Lost its near hind plate in running.
  • Reward The Misses - slow to begin. After racing wide in the early stages was permitted to stride forward and take up a position outside the leader near the 1000m, then over-raced.
  • Blandford Lad (NZ) - slow to begin.
  • Outrigger - over-raced in the early and middle stages and passing the 1100m was steadied and got its head up. Laid outwards in the home straight. Rider Michael Walker reported that his mount raced greenly throughout and after being crossed near the 1100m got its head up and was ungenerous.
  • Dream Brother - raced keenly from the 1000m.
  • Maclairey (NZ) - held up between the 400m and the 300m before obtaining a neat run to the inside of Dream Brother which shifted out marginally.
  • So Schmick - over the concluding stages had difficulty obtaining clear running.

Race 2 - Ladbrokes Multiverse Plate - 1500m:

  • Walton Hall - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 8.04am.
  • Carberry Hill - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 10.16am.
  • Schwitzer - connections advised would be ridden quieter to finish off; settled at the rear of the field.
  • Countess De Galvez - bounded at the start. Over-raced with its head up in the early stages. Held up between the 500m and until passing the 150m before shifting over the heels of Wild Vitality to obtain clear running.
  • Poony - slow to begin.
  • Budd Fox - over-raced in the early stages.
  • Monteferrante - raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rider Brett Prebble was of the view that the filly may be at the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Whitemore - raced wide without cover.
  • King Landon (NZ) - held up between the 500m and the 300m and then over the concluding stages had a tendency to lay in and away from Whitemore.
  • Ordell - held up between the 400m and the 200m and was then momentarily hampered when attempting a neat run between Ridgewood Drive and Whitemore which shifted out marginally.
  • Wild Vitality - rider Daniel Stackhouse was disappointed with the performance, however in his opinion the gelding may not have backed up after its previous two hard runs. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Surging Storm - approaching the finishing line steadied when momentarily tightened by Monteferrante which had been carried in by King Landon (NZ) which shifted in away from Whitemore. Apprentice Teodore Nugent was spoken to advisedly regarding his use of the whip on a horse that was out of contention.

Race 3 - Ladbrokes Handicap - 1500m:

  • Cryptic Jewel (NZ) - began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with Majestic Halo.
  • Majestic Halo - bumped at the start.
  • Ambitious Gem - slow to begin.
  • Halcyon - over-raced in the early stages when being restrained in an attempt to find cover in a three wide position. Raced wide without cover from the 1000m. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
  • Our Chiquilla - raced three wide without cover until the 700m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
  • Courting Verity - laid out over the concluding stages.
  • Tycoon Kate - apprentice Jack Martin stated that in his opinion the mare was feeling the effects of recent racing and the stable confirmed that the mare would now be spelled.

Race 4 - MyPunter.com Handicap - 2400m:

  • Go And Get Rich - after sustaining lacerations to its head in the float en route to the course, was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 11.53am.
  • Man Alive (NZ) - slow to begin and as a result settled at the rear of the field. Rider Jordan Childs stated that after being slow to begin, the gelding settled near the rear of the field and was unable to make ground when placed under pressure. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Sassoon - over-raced in the early and middle stages.
  • So Belafonte - after initially settling worse than mid-field and three wide, was permitted to stride forward passing the 1800m before taking up a position outside the leader passing the 1400m. Rider Craig Williams reported that his mount over-raced in the middle stages.
  • Blue Jay Way - rider Damien Thornton stated that the mare was unable to make ground today from the rear of the field. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Pretty Mama (NZ) - rider Patrick Moloney was of the opinion that the mare may be better suited on a track with more give and may not have handled the quick back up from December 26th. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The track was upgraded from Good 4 to Good 3 at 2.52pm after the running of this race.

Race 5 - Clanbrooke Racing Handicap - 1800m:

  • Sickening - after being fractious and becoming cast in its starting stall, underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3.20pm and the gelding must now obtain further approval in two jumps out prior to racing again. The gelding sustained swelling to its off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Sickening to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to 3.20pm are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets - 10 cents, place bets (for winner) - 7 cents, place bets (for 2nd) - 9 cents and place bets (for 3rd) - 13 cents.
  • Raid The Cabinet - began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with Trigger Point and lost ground. When being restrained in the early stages, over-raced and got its head up.
  • Trigger Point - bumped at the start.
  • Sheer Madness - began awkwardly. Held up for a short distance near the 200m.
  • Shaq (NZ) - began awkwardly. Held up from the 500m and until passing the 300m.
  • Lovin Thcastle (NZ) - began awkwardly. Apprentice Jack Martin was of the view that his mount may be better suited on a track with more give.
  • Midoriyama - raced wide without cover.
  • Louisville Lip (NZ) - apprentice Michael Poy reported that the gelding over-raced and this was detrimental to its chances today. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 6 - Spicer Thoroughbreds Handicap - 1000m:

  • Pure Emotion - correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether Pure Emotion had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from rider Michael Walker it was established that as the start was effected the mare turned its head and lunged downwards whilst being assisted by the barrier attendant. As Stewards were of the opinion that this incident was due to the manners of the horse, Pure Emotion was declared a starter and correct weight was declared.
  • Bold Type - after being unruly and dislodging its rider en route to the gates, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race. Rider Joe Bowditch was examined by the doctor and was passed fit to ride and this delayed the start of the race by approximately three minutes.
  • Kaipaki (NZ) - laid in rounding the home turn (600m) and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of From The Clouds which shifted out after changing stride. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Beaverbrook - apprentice Nathan Punch reported that his mount did not feel right in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Huge Action - apprentice Jessica Eaton reported that her mount did not feel right in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 7 - Araza Handicap - 1300m:

  • Eligere - after becoming injured in the float en route to the course was a late withdrawal at 2.32pm on veterinary advice.
  • Fabians Spirit - after being fractious and becoming cast in its starting stall underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 4.31pm and the colt must now obtain further approval in a jump out prior to racing again. The colt was found to be lame in the off hind leg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Fabians Spirit to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to 4.31pm are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets - 25 cents, place bets (for winner) - 32 cents and place bets (for 2nd) - 15 cents.
  • No More Bids - connections advised would be ridden quieter from the wide gate; settled near the rear.
  • Jarmanagic - checked at the start between Another Bit and Magnossiva which both shifted ground. Rider Craig Williams reported that his mount over-raced in the early and middle stages and was then held up for a short distance prior to the 200m and this was detrimental its chances today.
  • Another Bit - began awkwardly.
  • Magnossiva - began awkwardly. Was awkwardly placed close to the heels of Another Bit near the 100m.
  • Hawkshot - over-raced in the early and middle stages. Jumped a shadow near the 200m and became unbalanced. Rider Mark Zahra reported that his mount pulled hard throughout and lost concentration after jumping a shadow near the 200m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 8 - The Big Screen Company Handicap - 1300m:

  • Wallace Street - after being fractious in its starting stall, underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 5.06pm and the gelding must now obtain further approval in a jump out prior to racing again. The gelding was found to be lame in the near hind leg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Wallace Street to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to 5.06pm are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets - 2 cents, place bets (for winner) - 2 cents, place bets (for 2nd) - 3 cents and place bets (for 3rd) - 3 cents.
  • Tin Hat - connections advised would be ridden more forward; led.
  • Hes The Boss - slow to begin.
  • Silkstone - after beginning well settled further forward than anticipated.
  • Aberro - slow to begin.
  • Amschel - when being restrained to obtain cover approaching the 1000m got its head up and began to over-race.
  • Abyssinian - near the 1000m steadied to avoid the heels of Nina Rules.
  • Kaptive Hero - raced wide without cover.
  • Distant Sky (NZ) - apprentice Tahlia Hope dropped her whip near the 200m.
  • Peko - rider Ben Thompson reported that his mount laid inwards in the straight.
