Top 5 Early Insights @ Royal Randwick

Published: 01 Oct 2015

Pressure is on - Gai Waterhouse will be very keen to win a Group 1 this weekend

The excitement is building as the Carnival heats up, Sydney's Spring features taking centre stage over the next couple of weeks.

As the 'grand final' races are upon us, many of the better gallopers are reaching their peak. Expect fiercely competitive racing and some big betting moves.

The Race Guide's Analyst Team have listed their Top 5 Early Insights below to help you get in-front of the Bookies.

1 - Firmer Footing Helps

The sunny weather in Sydney is drying out the Royal Randwick turf and we should get to a GOOD track by Saturday.

Firmer footing will help a lot of gallopers to improve, including TAKEDOWN, HOOKED and JUNOOB at good odds.

Early market for the Metropolitan (Race 9). Suggested bet in bold.

Big strider - Junoob can produce a strong finishing surge on dry ground

2 - Jump, Kick, Win

The Craven Plate over 2,000 metres will be a procession if favourite COMPLACENT turns up in top form.

He looks to get an easy lead in the race and has a better turn-of-foot than the other on-pace gallopers.

Talented jockey James McDonald just has to jump, kick and win!

Early market for the Craven Plate (Race 6). Suggested bet in bold.

Class in the race - Complacent will be very hard to beat this weekend

3 - Waller Waller Waller

It could be three Epsom wins in a row for Chris Waller this weekend as he saddles up three leading chances in the race.

While other gallopers have reached their peak ratings, WINX, SILVERBALL and SADLER'S LAKE all keep raising the bar higher; a really positive sign in a Handicap race.

Only Waller could find improvement in a seven-year-old like he is with SILVERBALL!

Early market for the Epsom (Race 7). Suggested bets in bold.

Big finishing burst - Winx is an exciting mare that will be very hard to hold out

4 - Fond of the Mile?

Gai Waterhouse isn't enjoying her usual success this Spring, but she is dominant in the thee-year-old fillies grade. The first lady of racing has the Group One Flight Stakes over 1,600 metres at her mercy with four good chances in the race.

Her powerful runner SPEAK FONDLY tops the betting markets, but the value might be with horses that are sure to stay the mile.

KIMBERLEY STAR and SEMPRE LIBERA are both 'bomb-proof' competitors that will give the race a shake.

Early market for the Flight Stakes (Race 8). Suggested bets in bold.

Always in the mix - Kimberley Star was stuck wide last start and still came third

5 - The Mounting Yard Matters

The new season two-year-olds line up for the first time in Sydney this weekend for the running of the Breeders' Plate and Gimcrack Stakes.

There have been impressive trials from the likes of CAPITALIST, COHESION, CALLOPE and TWIST TOPS, but it's hard to be confident based on a 'warm-up' only.

Check the mounting yard before a bet or tune into @TheRaceGuide on Twitter for the insights from the team.

Strong hand - The Race Guide team will have a close eye on the Godolphin horses
