Grand Final Racing Weekend in Melbourne

An old head on his shoulders - Buffering will be out to show the youngster's who's boss at weight-for-age
It's Grand Final eve, and racing kicks off early with the running of the Group 1 Moir Stakes in Race 7 at Mooney Valley. It is a real test of character for the three-year-old fillies PETITS FILOUS and FONTITON as they take another step in their already impressive short racing career's. If they don't handle the rise in class, one that has been here and done it all before is the tough BUFFERING who won the race last year.
The Valley card is strengthened by other stakes races including the Group 2 Stocks Stakes in Race 3 for the mares in a small but highly competitive field over the mile. Gai Waterhouse sends down Group 1 winner AMANPOUR, while local hopes rest with MAY'S DREAM and PRECIOUS GEM among others.
In other stakes races, most three-year-olds step out to the mile for the first time in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes in Race 5, while the Group 3 JRA CUP in Race 6 over the Cox Plate distance sees the likes of MAGNAPAL bringing in the winning form, while THE UNITED STATES gets some weight relief in a rematch.
The action turns to Caulfield on Saturday, however this is a little calm before the storm before racing heads to Flemington on Sunday on a superb card with the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes in Race 8 over 2,000 metres the feature.
