Stewards' Summary @ Royal Randwick

A summary of the Royal Randwick Stewards' Report for Saturday 3rd October is shown below, including the Unlucky Runners, Vet Notes, Penalties and Fines. For the full report, visit the Racing NSW website.

 

Unlucky Runners

  • Alluvion (Race 2) – hampered at the start. Ran out at the 600m, taking Royal Angel wider. Close to the line was inconvenienced when Twist Tops ran out under pressure.
  • Counterattack (Race 4) – after being brushed by Spill The Beans, Takedown shifted in near the 600m, which resulted in Counterattack being awkwardly placed to the inside of the heels of Takedown for some strides and then having to be checked when it ran out across the heels of Takedown.
  • Sadler's Lake (race 7) – approaching the 1200m was awkwardly placed close to the heels of Pressing, which got its head up when being restrained back off the heels of Hooked. Pulled hard in the middle stages. Had some difficulty obtaining clear ground passing the 200m.

 

Vet Notes

  • Desirable Miss (Race 2) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be distressed and displaying a poor post-race recovery.
  • Ruling Dynasty (Race 6) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. 
  • Sweynesse (Race 7) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a speedy cut to the near-hind fetlock. 

 

RACE 1: Newgate Breeders' Plate (Listed) 1000m 

  • Prized Icon – slow to begin. Near the 600m steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of Detective.
  • Detective – slow to begin.
  • Samadoubt – hampered on jumping when bumped heavily by One Stryke, which shifted in.
  • Walk Right In – jumped awkwardly. Held up briefly making the home turn.
  • Capitalist – leaving the 600m was steadied from the heels of Cohesion, ran out and made the turn awkwardly.
  • Cogliere – leaving the 600m was checked from the heels of Capitalist when that runner shifted out abruptly. 

 

RACE 2: Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes (Listed) 1000m 

  • Calliope – which was laying on the offside its barrier, missed the start as a result. Trainer J O'Shea indicated the filly will trial prior to its next start. Overraced in the middle stages and had to be restrained off the heels of Divajeu.
  • Royal Angel – slow to begin.
  • Slumber Party – slow to begin. Rounding the home turn raced tight inside Overreactive.
  • Bliss Point – jumped awkwardly and shifted in, taking Alluvion in across the heels of Desirable Miss.
  • Alluvion – hampered at the start. Ran out at the 600m, taking Royal Angel wider. Close to the line was inconvenienced when Twist Tops ran out under pressure. J McDonald, rider of Calliope, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that prior to straightening he directed his mount out when insufficiently clear of Alluvion, resulting in that filly having to be checked out and away to avoid the heels of Calliope. In issuing a penalty of six meetings, the Stewards took into account the period of suspension will encompass Group and feature races. J McDonald's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 6 October 2015 and to expire on Friday, 16 October 2015, on which day he may ride.
  • Desirable Miss - a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be distressed and displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr B Baker was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly racing again.  

 

RACE 3: TAB Dulcify Quality (Listed) 1600m 

  • Reckless Russell –arrival on course was delayed due to traffic problems, was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer when it arrived on course and was found to be unfit to start. Reckless Russell was withdrawn at 12.52pm.
  • Schopenhauer – overraced in the early and middle stages.
  • Laucala – when questioned, J Cassidy could offer no explanation for the filly's failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller advised the filly will now be spelled.

 

RACE 4: Canterbury BMW Roman Consul Stakes (Group 2) 1200m 

  • Exosphere - arrival on course was delayed due to traffic problems, was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer when it arrived on course and was passed fit to start.
  • Wicked Intent – knuckled over on jumping away.
  • Counterattack – after being brushed by Spill The Beans, Takedown shifted in near the 600m, which resulted in Counterattack being awkwardly placed to the inside of the heels of Takedown for some strides and then having to be checked when it ran out across the heels of Takedown.
  • Spill The Beans – on straightening was briefly hampered when Takedown shifted out to improve.
  • Le Chef – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. 

 

RACE 5: G1X.COM.AU Premiere Stakes (Group 2) 1200m 

  • Famous Seamus - arrival on course was delayed due to traffic problems, was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer when it arrived on course and was passed fit to start.
  • Hot Snitzel – bumped on jumping when Tiger Tees shifted in after jumping awkwardly.

 

RACE 6: APN Outdoor Craven Plate (Group 3) 2000m 

  • Complacent - arrival on course was delayed due to traffic problems, was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer when it arrived on course and was passed fit to start. Over the final 200m Hauraki shifted in under pressure and Complacent shifted in away from that runner without any contact between the two horses.
  • Foreteller – had to be briefly checked passing the 1600m when tightened for room by I'm Imposing, which was taken in by Gallante (C Williams). Foreteller was able to regain its position shortly afterwards, however, C Williams was reprimanded and advised to make more effort to keep his mounts straight.
  • I'm Imposing – on straightening was tightened and had to be steadied between Hauraki and Gallante, which was taken out slightly by Complacent (J McDonald). J McDonald was told to make more effort to keep his mounts straight.
  • Ruling Dynasty – When questioned, T Berry stated his mount did not jump cleanly and, as a result, raced further back than intended. He added nevertheless Ruling Dynasty appeared to race flatly today and was off the bit prior to the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr J Cummings could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance, other than the horse may have been affected by the heat. He undertook to report back how Ruling Dynasty pulls up subsequent to the event. 

 

RACE 7: The Star 150th Epsom (Group 1) 1600m 

  • Silverball – stable representative Mr L Prior was advised the gelding, which was scratched on vet advice prior to official scratching time, will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
  • Messene – slow to begin. Pulled hard in the middle stages.
  • Sadler's Lake – approaching the 1200m was awkwardly placed close to the heels of Pressing, which got its head up when being restrained back off the heels of Hooked. Pulled hard in the middle stages. Had some difficulty obtaining clear ground passing the 200m.
  • Sweynesse – passing the 300m Messene, when improving to the outside of Kirramosa, shifted out and bumped Sweynesse. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a speedy cut to the near-hind fetlock.
  • Kirramosa – trainer Mr J Sargent will report back on the progress of the mare subsequent to the race. An inquiry was adjourned into an incident on the home turn involving Winks (H Bowman), which had to be checked, Kirramosa (B Shinn), which became badly unbalanced, and J Penza (Sons Of John). The inquiry was adjourned in particular for the Stewards to look more closely at the positioning of H Bowman's left elbow during the incident.
  • Winx – rider H Bowman was fined the sum of $500 under AR137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the finishing line.

 

RACE 8: Coolmore Flight Stakes (Group 1) 1600m 

  • Ocean Tempest – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Cummings stated that the filly may not have backed up and may not have run out the 1600m journey. He indicated Ocean Tempest would be spelled.
  • Kimberley Star – got its head up when being restrained passing the 1400m and shifted out, hampering Gone To Paris.
  • Speak Fondly – bumped with Honesta close to the line, due to Honesta shifting in.

 

RACE 9: McGrath Estate Agents Metropolitan (Group 1) 2400m 

  • Ghost Protocol – near the 50m became unbalanced when bumped by Opinion, which was inclined to lay in.
  • Beyond Thankful – rider H Bowman stated that the gelding raced keenly after brushing Chance To Dance in the early stages and then was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller will be asked to report back.
  • Maurus – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Penalties and Fines

  • Fines: Race 7: H Bowman (Winx) $500 – make celebratory gesture prior to the line (AR137(c)).
  • Suspensions: Race 2: J McDonald (Calliope) – careless riding (AR137(a)), suspended from 6/10/15 to 16/10/15.
