Top 5 Early Insights @ Royal Randwick

Sneaks into the race - Missvonn is weighted to win at big odds at Randwick

The Grand Final of Spring racing in Sydney looms large this weekend, Spring Champion Stakes Day is the final meeting of the Carnival before everyone packs up and heads to Melbourne.

In fact, with a poorer quality Spring Champion Stakes this year, it looks like some have already left!

There's still lots of value to be found though and The Race Guide's Analyst team has picked out their Top 5 Early Insights to help you get in-front of the Bookies.

1 - An Achilles Heel?

Both favourites in the Spring Champion Stakes have great qualities; VANBRUGH a classic-looking type with a strong finishing surge and TOO GOOD TO REFUSE a dynamic galloper with a great turn-of-foot.

But don't be fooled into thinking the race is an open-and-shut case.

VANBRUGH isn't an adaptable type and needs to keep his rhythm mid-race, while TOO GOOD TO REFUSE is a slight risk up to 2,000 metres.

Horses like TATOOSH, MAN OF CHOICE, GOLD AMBITION and even FLYING ACHILLES aren't without chance.

Market for Randwick Race 6. Suggested bets in bold.

Knock-out hope - Horses like Flying Achilles can strike if Vanbrugh loses his momentum

2 - The Magic of Handicaps

The new weight scale leaves a lot of room at the bottom of the weights for horses to 'sneak in' to a Handicap and steal the win.

There are 14 gallopers that have to carry 60kg or more at Randwick, a difficult impost for any horse to handle.

MAGIC OF DREAMS (Race 3), MUSIC MAGNATE (Race 4) and MISSVONN (Race 5) are all set to take advantage of a big weight pull in their races.

Market for Randwick Race 3. Suggested bets in bold.

'Postage stamp' weight - Magic of Dreams has been allotted 9.5kg less than the top-weight

3 - Tough As Oak

Bjorn Baker's HERNE'S OAK is one of the more genuine horses going around this weekend, a galloper that pushes forward and fights hard to the line.

STEADY tempos at Rosehill have been far from ideal for a horse that doesn't have the POWER and turn-of-foot of others.

He can chase down FAROLITOS and catch him this time.

Market for Randwick Race 5. Suggested bets in bold.

Tough on-pacer - Herne's Oak should relish racing at Randwick this weekend

4 - A Mile Too Far?

PEEPING lines up in the Angst Stakes this weekend after lowering the colours of the popular Catkins at her last start.

She's well-placed in the Set Weights event, but there's no guarantees she will stay the mile.

Her 5th over 1,400 metres at Randwick behind Slightly Sweet, when the tempo was STRONG, didn't suggest she was looking for further.

Market for Randwick Race 7. Suggested bets in bold.

Neat and speedy - Peeping is a promising horse, but can she stay the mile?

5 - Ready to Deliver

GOOD PROJECT has always been on the edge of Stakes class, a tough son of Not A Single Doubt that finished 7th in the Group Two Queensland Guineas over the Winter.

He might be ready to finally break through for a big win this Spring, but before he gets to that, Waller has picked out another benchmark race for him this weekend.

Barrier 1 in a Benchmark 85 sounds like easy pickings.

Market for Randwick Race 8. Suggested bet in bold.

A good bet - Good Project is sure to be right in the finish over 1,600 metres
