Vet Notes

  • Zoubo  (Race 2) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame right fore. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Al Naifa (Race 2) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame right foreleg and a slower than normal recovery. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Bellaria (Race 3) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained a minor injury to the inside heel, right fore.
  • Tavisan (Race 4) - A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Hulk (Race 5) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame right foreleg. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Social Spin (Race 7) - Post-race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horses racing performance. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Fifty Stars (IRE) (Race 8) - Post-race endoscopy detected a degree of mucus that may have affected the horses racing performance. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

Penalties & Fines

  • Eric Musgrove, Trainer of Montauk  was fined $200 for failing to produce the ID card for the gelding, which was having its first start for the stable.
  • Damien Oliver, Rider of Crack The Code  was fined $300 for returning to scale 1kg over his declared weight.

Summary of Races 

Race 1 THE BIG SCREEN COMPANY HANDICAP - 1800 metres:

  • Magnapal Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival on course after sustaining a superficial abrasion en-route and was passed suitable to race.
  • Yogi (NZ) Slow to begin.
  • Silentz Dean Yendall dropped his whip near the 300 metres. D Yendall could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding other than he was under pressure in the middle stages of the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
  • Montauk Trainer Eric Musgrove was fined $200 for failing to produce the ID card for the gelding, which was having its first start for the stable.

Race 2 KEVIN HAYES STAKES - 1200 metres:

  • Zoubo As the start was affected bounded in the air and lost ground. Hung out rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame right fore. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again. M Dee was severely reprimanded for using his whip forward of his mounts shoulder. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account that the filly was hanging out severely.
  • Yulong Monoceros Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
  • Apertif Over raced in the early and middle stages.
  • Tropezina Lay out rounding the turn and in the straight.
  • Crack The Code During the event lost the off fore plate. Rider Damien Oliver was fined $300 for returning to scale 1kg over his declared weight.
  • Al Naifa Rider Luke Currie stated that the filly would take benefit from todays first up outing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame right foreleg and a slower than normal recovery. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

Race 3 MYPUNTER.COM BELLMAINE STAKES - 1200 metres:

  • Spanish Reef Change of tactics To be ridden back from the barrier. Settled mid-field, three wide with cover.
  • Just Hifalutin Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after kicking the fence and was passed suitable to race. Held up from the 500 metres before gaining clear running near the 300 metres. When making ground was disappointed for a run passing the 100 metres before gaining clear running passing the 50 metres.
  • Bellaria Knuckled on jumping away and as a result lost ground. Rider Kerrin McEvoy reported after that after knuckling at the start settled further back than expected and would be looking for further distance. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained a minor injury to the inside heel, right fore.
  • Queen Annabel Rider Beau Mertens reported his mount over raced in the early stages due to the slow tempo and for this reason did not finish off as expected. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
  • Prussian Vixen Weakened from the 300 metres. Rider Jake Noonan could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
  • Teleplay Rider Michael Dee reported his mount, which was first up from a spell, peaked on its run over the concluding stages and would derive benefit from todays event.

Race 4 SCHWEPPES RUBITON STAKES - 1100 metres:

  • Nature Strip Jumped away awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
  • Voodoo Lad Slow to begin.
  • Tavisan Over raced in the early and middle stages. Rider Michael Dee could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Illustrious Lad Rider Anthony Darmanin reported his mount did not feel comfortable in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

Race 5 LADBROKES BLUE DIAMOND PRELUDE (C&G) - 1100 metres:

  • Hulk Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Rider Michael Walker reported his mount raced greenly throughout and would benefit from todays experience. A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame right foreleg. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Brazen Brando Slow to begin. Rider Craig Williams reported his mount did not respond to his riding as expected when placed under pressure.
  • Exeter Slow to begin. Rider Damien Oliver could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
  • Groot - Raced three wide without cover.
  • Shotmaker Raced four wide without cover.
  • Hawker Hurricane Near the 600 metres had to steadied to avoid the heels of Shotmaker (Damian Lane), which shifted in to obtain cover behind Groot. D Lane was reprimanded and notified to exercise more care when shifting ground.
  • Languishing Rider Andrew Mallyon reported his mount raced greenly throughout and would benefit from todays experience. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

Race 6 LADBROKES BLUE DIAMOND PRELUDE (F) - 1100 metres:

  • Catch Me Jumped away awkwardly and hampered Lankan Star. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Steadied outwards to avoid the heels of Vinicunca (Stephen Baster), which shifted in near the 900 metres. During the incident Athiri was inconvenienced by Catch Me. Stephen Baster was severely reprimanded and notified to exercise more care. In the straight had a tendency to lay in. Rider Mark Zahra reported the filly over raced in the early stages and in his opinion was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality and a sample was taken for analysis. Stewards will follow up with co-trainer Peter and Paul Snowden.
  • Lankan Star Hampered at the start.
  • Sensitivity Jumped away awkwardly.
  • Miss Elena Slow to begin.
  • Presently Slow to begin.
  • Brooklyn Hustle Over raced in the early and middle stages.
  • Pelican Got its head up when being restrained near the 800 metres to avoid the heels of Lankan Star.
  • Athiri Raced three wide without cover
  • Beach Club Approaching the 200 metres raced in restricted room to the inside of Lankan Star, which had obtained a narrow run to the inside of Catch Me, which when laying in shifted in.

Race 7 HYLAND RACE COLOURS AUTUMN STAKES - 1400 metres:

  • Dealmaker Slow to begin. Shifted out near the 200 metres and bumped Ringerdingding.
  • Social Spin Post-race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horses racing performance. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Declares War Rider Damian Lane reported, in his opinion, the colt would be better suited over longer distances. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

Race 8 LADBROKES C F ORR STAKES - 1400 metres:

  • Best Of Days (GB) Slow to begin. Held up from the 400 metres before obtaining a clear running approaching the 150 metres.
  • MossNDale (NZ) Slow to begin.
  • So Si Bon When caught wide in the early stages was restrained to settle towards the rear of the field.
  • Land Of Plenty Raced three wide without cover.
  • Brave Smash (JPN) Hung in under pressure in the straight.
  • Material Man When making ground, had to shift out to obtain clear running passing the 100 metres. Rider Lucy Warwick explained that she was happy with her position approaching the 600 metres behind Kementari as she was of the view that Kementari would take her into the race rather than her coming to its outside and making her own run passing the 600 metres. She added that Material Man hit a flat spot passing the 400 metres but then did find the line late in the race. L Warwick further stated that, in hindsight, she may have been better suited to come to the outside of Kementaris heels approaching the 600 metres rather than waiting for that horse to take her into the race.
  • Fifty Stars (IRE) Rider Ben Allen reported his mount would be better suited over a longer distance. Post-race endoscopy detected a degree of mucus that may have affected the horses racing performance. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Whispering Brook - Rider Mark Zahra reported his mount would be better suited over distances less than todays event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
  • Shillelagh (NZ) Rider Ben Melham reported that, in his opinion, despite the mare having won on similar track conditions his mount today felt uncomfortable in the going. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

Race 9 JC SWIFT HODGES TS CARLYON CUP - 1600 metres:

  • Im A Princess Jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Call Me Handsome (IRE) and as result lost ground.
  • Bring Me Roses Slow to begin. Rider Regan Bayliss reported that, in his opinion, the mare, which was second up today, raced flat and would be better suited over distances greater than 1600 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
  • Call Me Handsome Over raced in the early and middle stages.
  • Trap For Fools Approaching the 200 metres raced in restricted room between Nights Watch, which was laying in slightly and Avilius (GB), which shifted out to obtain a clear run.
  • Ace High Passing the 100 metres lay in across the heels of Harlem (GB) and was eased.
  • Arbeitsam Rider Stephen Baster reported his mount did not handle the Melbourne direction of racing.
