Vet Notes

  • French Girl (Race 1)  - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame right fore and post-race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horses performance.
  • Abyssinian (Race 1) -A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame left foreleg. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Art Collection (Race 4)  - A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • My Pendant (NZ) (Race 5) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame left foreleg. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • George Patton (USA) (Race 6) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame left hind and slow recovery. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Mickey Blue Eyes (Race 7) - Post-race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. Mickey Blue Eyes shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward.
  • Vassilator (Race 7) - Post-race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horses performance. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Jedastar (Race 8) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Written By (Race 8) -  Post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt had sustained a laceration to the left heel.
  • Sunlight (Race 8) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering mild heat stress.

Summary of Races 

Race 1 DERUCCI TROPHY - 1600 metres:

  • Cincinnati Red (NZ) Change of tactics To be ridden further back. Settled mid-field when over racing. Tightened for room shortly after the start by Remember The Name, which began awkwardly and shifted in.
  • Mountain Breath (GB) Began awkwardly. Rider Damien Oliver could offer no explanation for the performance of the mare. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
  • Remember The Name Began awkwardly, unbalancing rider James McDonald.
  • Herecomesmybaby - Raced three wide without cover.
  • Hussys Glow Steadied and became unbalanced near the 1100 metres after being brushed by Abyssinian, which was over racing. Held up for running and had to change course approaching the 300 metres.
  • French Girl Weakened from the 300 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame right fore and post-race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horses performance.
  • Abyssinian A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame left foreleg. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again. 

Race 2 LAWN HANDICAP - 2000 metres:

  • Schabau (GER) Change of tactics To be ridden more forward. Settled behind the leaders.
  • Surprise Baby (NZ) Began awkwardly. In the straight lay in.
  • Looks Like Elvis Began awkwardly. Steadied at the 600 metres when tightened for room by Prince Ziggy, which initially shifted out and One For Later, which shifted in.
  • Hang Man (IRE) Slow to begin. Rider Damien Oliver reported that he felt his mount was going to run into the race, however, failed to finish off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with the stable.
  • Ruby Skye Slow to begin.
  • Silence The Stars Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
  • Schabau (GER) Steadied and taken out off its course approaching the 1200 metres by Silence The Stars, which, when over racing, shifted out to avoid the heels of Ayers Rock.
  • Prince Ziggy Got its head up when being restrained and over racing near the 1200 metres, then having to avoid the heels of Schabau (GER), which had shifted back in after having been taken out by Silence The Stars.

Race 3 SINGAPORE TURF CLUB TROPHY - 1200 metres:

  • Man Of His Word Began awkwardly. When questioned, rider Craig Williams reported that after being awkward to begin, the gelding settled further back than intended. He explained that he was mindful his mount did not appreciate racing inside of runners at its last 1200 metre start at Flemington (6/11/19). He added, that when settling behind Chauffer and Order Of Command he expected those horses to take him into the race, however, they failed to do so and for this reason he shifted to the outside of the track passing the 400 metres to obtain clear running.
  • Frankel My Dear Began awkwardly.
  • Order Of Command Rider Damien Oliver reported that his mount may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. The stable confirmed that Order Of Command will now be spelled.
  • El Sicario (NZ) Eased down. Rider Dwayne Dunn could offer no explanation for the poor performance other than the gelding may not have been suited to racing down the straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with the stable.
  • Chauffer Rider Dean Yendall reported that, in his opinion, the horse may not race well second up in its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Race 4 TALINDERT STAKES - 1100 metres:

  • Amarula Queen Began awkwardly and was then checked to avoid the heels of Swan Island, which was taken out by Magnicity.
  • Excess Funds Hung out
  • Via Capo Slow to begin. Steadied passing the 300 metres to avoid the heels of I Am, which shifted out. Raced greenly for the remainder of the race.
  • Favourite Things Slow to begin. Lay in from the 400 metres.
  • Magnicity Began awkwardly.
  • Swan Island Eased at the 600 metres to avoid the heels of Magnicity, which shifted out slightly.
  • Moneefa Checked to avoid the heels of Via Capo passing the 400 metres due to Moneefa laying in towards the heels of Via Capo which was taken out by I Am.
  • Art Collection Steadied approaching the 800 metres when crowded for room between Swan Island, which initially shifted out and Steal My Kisses, which shifted in before being straightened. Rider Craig Williams reported the filly sweated up pre-race, was disappointing and may have come to the end of the preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

Race 5 THE TAB VANITY - 1400 metres:

  • Shamwow (NZ) - Rider Mark Zahra was reprimanded for failing to make the weight on the gelding and having to be replaced. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account that he had been indisposed last night and unable to fulfil his engagements at Moonee Valley and was therefore unable to lose weight. Slow to begin.
  • Do It Began awkwardly. Hampered passing the 800 metres when having to avoid the heels of Goldifox when the tempo eased. Near the 700 metres got head up when again steadied. Steadied passing the 400 metres to avoid the heels of Goldifox (Stephen Baster), which had shifted out. S Baster was severely reprimanded.
  • Amphitrite Made contact with the barrier at the start.
  • Verry Elleegant (NZ) Restrained at the start from the outside barrier. Steadied to avoid heels passing the 800 metres when the tempo eased. Got its head up when being restrained to avoid heels at the 600 metres.
  • Alexandria Restrained passing the 800 metres to avoid heels when the tempo eased.
  • My Pendant (NZ) Raced wide without cover. Hampered and taken out off its course passing the 800 metres by Do It, which shifted out to avoid the heels of Goldifox, which in turn, shifted out slightly to avoid the heels of Chevalier DEon as the tempo eased. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame left foreleg. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

Race 6 THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB TROPHY - 1600 metres:

  • Serenade The Stars (IRE) Began awkwardly.
  • Critical Thinking Began awkwardly.
  • Thunder Cloud Began awkwardly.
  • George Patton (USA) Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover. Weakened from the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame left hind and slow recovery. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Maclairey Began awkwardly.
  • Antah Steadied at the 350 metres to avoid the heels of Gold Fields.
  • Valac (IRE) App Lachlan King reported he was instructed to settle in a handy position with cover, however, when caught wide he was left with no alternative other than to continue forward and settle outside the leader.

Race 7 CS HAYES STAKES - 1400 metres:

  • Extra Brut Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival on course and was passed suitable to race. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages. Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider Michael Walker reported the colt raced keenly after bumping with Ranier and when building into the race in the straight was held up. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
  • Thorondor Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was found to have mucus on scope. Acting on veterinary advice Stewards ordered the late scratching of the gelding at 3.28pm. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
  • Mickey Blue Eyes - Slow to begin. Post-race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. Mickey Blue Eyes shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward.
  • More Sundays Began awkwardly and was then eased to avoid the heels of Ranier, which shifted in.
  • The Inevitable Raced three wide without cover.
  • Ranier In the straight lay in.
  • Stars Of Carrum Held up for clear running from the 300 metres and went to the line not fully tested.
  • Adana Eased from heels at the 300 metres and again momentarily eased near the 150 metres.
  • Chapada Held up for clear running from the 400 metres until passing the 300 metres.
  • Performer Rider Corey Brown reported his mount failed to settle and as a consequence was unable to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with the stable.
  • Vassilator Post-race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horses performance. A veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

Race 8 BLACK CAVIAR LIGHTNING - 1000 metres:

Prior to the declaration of Correct Weight, Luke Currie, rider of Sunlight, 3rd placegetter, viewed the Stewards footage before deciding not to lodge and objection. It was established that from the 100 metres to the 50 metres Sunlight was taken out off its course by In Her Time (Corey Brown), which shifted out. C Brown was notified to exercise more care when in similar circumstances.

  • Jedastar Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Weakened from the 200 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Glenall Began awkwardly.
  • Osborne Bulls Contacted at the start by Glenall, which shifted in.
  • Written By Raced keenly in the early stages. Post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt had sustained a laceration to the left heel.
  • Graff Raced keenly in the early stages.
  • Missrock Held up for clear running from the 300 metres until passing the 200 metres.
  • Sunlight Taken out off its course between the 100 metres and the 50 metres by In Her time. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering mild heat stress.

Race 9 JAPAN RACING ASSOCIATION TROPHY - 1400 metres:

  • Flow Underwent a veterinary examination after kicking a rail in the stall area and was passed suitable to race. Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with RockNGold.
  • RockNGold Hampered at the start when bumped by Flow. When questioned app Liam Riordan explained that it was his intention to sit outside Theanswermyfriend but after having gained that position early he was then unable to hold the gelding and was forced to allow it to stride and lead at a fast tempo.
  • Mantastic (IRE) Slow to begin.
  • Widgee Turf Slow to begin.
  • Dodging Bullets Eased at the 150 metres to avoid the heels of Widgee Turf (app Tahlia Hope), which was laying in under pressure. T Hope was reprimanded.
  • Seaburge Taken in off its course approaching the 50 metres by Widgee Turf (app Tahlia Hope), which continued to shift in. T Hope was severely reprimanded.
  • Mighty Boss Brushed over the concluding stages by Widgee Turf, which lay in.
  • Fox Hall Rider Michael Dee reported his mount travelled well but failed to respond when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with the stable.
