On the home turn was inclined to lay out and near the 400m was steadied from the heels of Lankan Star. Free Of Debt then shifted to the inside to secure clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to have been galloped on to the off-foreleg, requiring treatment. Trainer Mr C Bieg was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Free Of Debt racing again.
  • A Adkins, rider of Baller, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 600m he permitted his mount to shift in, crowding the running of Redzel, resulting in Redzel losing its running and having to be steadied. • Sweet Scandal – began awkwardly.
  • Miss Que – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages
  • Resin – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

  • Star Reflection – in the straight laid in and proved difficult to ride out.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr D Williams advised that he had some concerns with the manner in which the mare pulled up post-race and he will report to the Stewards on the condition of She Knows and the future race plans for the mare.
  • Perizada – a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, other than the mare lost its near-fore plate in running.

RACE 2: Camera House Darby Munro Stakes (Listed) 1200m

  • Jonker – slow to begin. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider B Avdulla reported that his mount failed to travel throughout the event and, after placing the colt under pressure on the home turn, he elected not to continue pressuring his mount in the straight when it failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination of the colt, which was beaten 27 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr D Atkins advised that in his opinion Jonker was not suited by today's heavy track conditions. Having regard to the beaten margin, Stewards deemed the performance to be unacceptable and advised Mr Atkins that Jonker would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to its next start.
  • Prophet's Thumb – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
  • Krone – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
  • Wagner – when questioned, rider B Shinn stated that in his view the gelding did not handle the heavy track conditions and this was the principal reason for its disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Cummings endorsed the views expressed by B Shinn and undertook to report if there are any issues with Wagner in the days subsequent.
  • Classique Legend – when questioned regarding his riding and in particular the reason the gelding was raced wide and without cover throughout the event, rider K McEvoy advised that his instructions were to race prominently. He said when his mount commenced reasonably well and he endeavoured to cross runners to his inside in the early stages, however, when he observed Poised To Strike improve to his inside after travelling a short distance, he felt that Classique Legend did not have sufficient speed to cross that runner and Wagner, particularly on the heavy conditions, and for this reason he elected not to continue to shift in. He added that, although he was aware that this then may result in his mount being caught wide and without cover, he felt it would have been to the detriment of the gelding's chances to continue riding Classique Legend along. When questioned as to why he had made his decision to not contest the lead so soon, when in the opinion of the Stewards Classique Legend was building momentum to cross the runners to his inside, K McEvoy confirmed his earlier evidence and indicated that he had hoped the field would spread and this would allow him to obtain a position closer to the rail. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr L Bridge confirmed the instructions and expressed satisfaction with the ride of K McEvoy. Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed to consider the evidence.

  • Vin De Dance – rider B Shinn advised that, although his mount was caught wide and without cover, in his opinion it did not handle today's heavy track conditions and, particularly when the tempo increased from the 500m, the gelding was unable to quicken in the going. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover.
  • Zacada – a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was forced to make a wide run from the 800m, revealed it to be slow to recover.
