Vet Notes
- Arod (IRE) (Race 7) - Post race endoscopy detected a degree of exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the racing performance and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
Unlucky Runners
- Politeness (Race 7) - held up for clear running behind Bow Creek (IRE) and Arod (IRE) passing the 400m and then shifted in to obtain running approaching the 200m.
Penalties and Fines
- Steven King, rider of Have Plenty (Race 2)- fined $300 for using his whip six times forehand prior to the 100m which is one time more than permitted. Steven King was further reprimanded for using his whip for two consecutive strides prior to the 100m in a forehand manner which is not permitted.
- Dom Tourneur (Okahu Bay) (Race 2) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that approximately 100m after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Pacific Heights (IRE), resulting in Pacific Heights (IRE) being taken in to a point where Divan (NZ) had to relinquish his position. Dom Tourneur had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight November 8th and to expire at midnight November 15th, a total of eight race meetings (two metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Dom Tourneurs guilty plea and good record and that the incident was in the low range.
- Blake Shinn (Pacific Heights (IRE)) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that approaching the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of Sysmo resulting in that horse having to be checked to avoid the heels of Pacific Heights (IRE) and change course inwards. Blake Shinn had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight November 7th and to expire at midnight November 18th, a total of twelve race meetings (two metropolitan, ten provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Blake Shinns guilty plea and that the carelessness was in the mid-range.
- Craig Williams (Velox (GB)) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that passing the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of Prizum resulting in that horse being checked. - Ben Melham (Dandino (GB)) (Race 3) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that he permitted his mount to shift in whilst riding it along passing the 200m, when insufficiently clear of Secret Number (GB), resulting in that horse being checked. Ben Melham had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight November 7th and to expire at midnight November 20th, a total of fifteen race meetings (three metropolitan, twelve provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Ben Melhams guilty plea and that the carelessness was in the high range.
- Craig Newitt, rider of Kings Dance (Race 5) - fined $300 for using his whip six times forehand prior to the 100m which is one time more than permitted.
- Chad Schofield (He Or She) (Race 7) - pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner fourteen times prior to the 100m, which is nine times more than permitted under the rules. Chad Schofield had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight November 8th and to expire at midnight November 13th, a total of six race meetings (one metropolitan, five provincial). Chad Schofield was also fined the sum of $2000. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Chad Schofields record and that it was a gross breach of this particular rule in a Group 1 race.
- Damien Oliver (Disposition) (Race 7) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 1400m he permitted his mount to shift in to a position where he left insufficient racing room for Lucky Hussler and Sons Of John resulting in both of those horses being crowded for room. Damien Oliver had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight November 7th and to expire at midnight November 14th, a total of eight race meetings (two metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Damien Olivers guilty plea and that the carelessness was in the low range.
Summary of Races
Race 1 - RACING.COM MARIBYRNONG PLATE (Group 3) - 1000 metres:
- Flying Artie - began awkwardly and was slow to begin.
- Power Trip - began awkwardly.
- Gloriette - when racing close to the heels of Power Up Rise changed stride and became unbalanced passing the 400m. Rider James McDonald was cautioned and advised to exercise more care when in similar circumstances.
- Power Up Rise - became unbalanced at the 300m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
- Dalradian - rider John Allen stated his mount failed to handle todays rain affected track. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis.
Race 2 - STARLIGHT CHILDRENS FOUNDATION PLATE - 2000 metres:
- Nesbo - began awkwardly and knuckled after making contact with Velox (GB) resulting in the gelding losing ground.
- Divan (NZ) - hampered and had to relinquish its position near the 1900m when taken in by Pacific Heights which was in turn taken in by Okahu Bay. The explanation of Damien Oliver for weighing in in excess of a half kg over his declared weight was accepted.
- Sysmo - checked near the 300m.
- Prizum - checked passing the 100m.

Race 3 - QUEENS CUP (Group 3) - 2600 metres:
- Bonfire - connections advised would be ridden further forward today due to the lack of speed. Led.
- Secret Number (GB) - second placegetter; prior to correct weight rider James McDonald viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Had to be checked passing the 200m when tightened for room by Dandino (GB) which shifted in.
- Like A Carousel - checked shortly after the start to avoid the heels of Don Doremo (NZ) (Vlad Duric) which shifted in.
- Don Doremo (NZ) - rider Vlad Duric was issued with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in soon after the start when insufficiently clear of Like A Carousel.
- Bold Sniper (GB) - over-raced through the early stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Rider Chad Schofield was fined $400 for using his whip nine times forehand prior to the 100m which is four times more than permitted; in assessing penalty Stewards took into account Chad Schofields recent good record.

Race 4 - HILTON HOTELS & RESORTS STAKES (Listed) - 1400 metres:
- Palentino - slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover from the 800m.
- Apoloboom - over-raced through the middle stages.
- Ngarimu (NZ) - laid out in the straight.
Race 5 - ANTLER LUGGAGE HANDICAP - 1600 metres:
- Eximius - underwent a veterinary examination after being fractious in its stall and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3.01pm and a warning will be placed on the geldings record. All monies invested on Eximius to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 3.01pm: 7 cents in the dollar for the Win #2, 10 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2, 7 cents in the dollar for second place #6 and 7 cents in the dollar for third place #4.
- Setinum - slow to begin.
- Petrology - steadied near the 1500m when tightened for room between Inspector, which shifted out, and Defiant Angel which was shifting in. Rider Michael Walker could offer no explanation for the poor performance and a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than it lost its off fore plate during the race.
- Inspector - raced keenly through the early stages.
- Rhythm To Spare (NZ) - hung out under pressure in the straight.
- Kings Dance - rider Craig Newitt was fined $300 for using his whip six times forehand prior to the 100m which is one time more than permitted.
The track was upgraded from Soft 6 to Soft 5 at 3.10pm after the running of this race.
Race 6 - DARLEY CLASSIC (Group 1) - 1200 metres:
- Flamberge - got its head up when racing keenly passing the 100m when being steadied away from the heels of Tiger Tees (NZ).
- Srikandi - laid in throughout.
- Lumosty - when questioned regarding him settling more forward, rider Blake Shinn explained he was given no specific instructions other than to ride the mare where comfortable and that due to the moderate early sectionals, the mare positioned more forward than expected.
Race 7 - EMIRATES STAKES (Group 1) - 1600 metres:
- Turn Me Loose (NZ) - underwent a veterinary examination behind the gates after kicking out in its barrier stall and was passed suitable to race and this delayed the start of the race slightly.
- Lucky Hussler - began awkwardly.
- Bow Creek (IRE) - slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
- Arod (IRE) - began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover. Post race endoscopy detected a degree of exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the racing performance and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.
- Sons Of John - passing the 1400m tightened for room by Lucky Hussler that was taken in by Disposition.. Lost off-hind plate.
- Politeness - held up for clear running behind Bow Creek (IRE) and Arod (IRE) passing the 400m and then shifted in to obtain running approaching the 200m.
- Mays Dream - rider Chris Parnham was fined $300 for using his whip seven times forehand prior to the 100m, which is two times more than permitted.
- Disposition - rider Damien Oliver reported his mount may not have appreciated the quick back up from Flemington on October 31st. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis.

Race 8 - PRESTO MATRIARCH STAKES (Group 2) - 2000 metres:
- Lady Cumquat - connections advised would be ridden quieter today; raced towards the rear. Near the 1400m got its head up when being steadied off the heels of Oriental Lady (GER).
- Long Face Grace - began awkwardly.
- Inishowen - eased at the 1400m to avoid the heels of Lady Cumquat.
- Ungrateful Ellen - bounded at the start.
- Pondarosa Miss - raced three wide without cover.
Race 9 - EMIRATES AIRLINE HANDICAP - 1400 metres:
- Ulmann - slow into stride. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
- Timeless Prince - got its head up at the start and was then slow into stride.
- Longeron - steadied at the 400m to avoid the heels of Flow Meter, which was being taken out by Malaguerra (Ben Melham). After accepting that Flow Meter shifted out away from Malaguerra Stewards severely reprimanded Ben Melham for shifting out initially when not fully clear.
- Reldas - near the 400m switched in across the heels of Malaguerra to obtain clear running
- Staviva - had to steady at the 400m when held up for clear running.
- Malaguerra - approaching the 300m when heading to the outside of the home straight, shied and shifted in abruptly unbalancing its rider, Ben Melham.
- Mirage - a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
