The Unlucky Runners

The track was tricky at Rosehill Gardens for San Domenico Stakes Day, with a clear preference for gallopers off the rails. Some fluctuating tempos and questionable rides made sure there were some horses in the 'Forgive File', especially in the first few races.

The Race Guide's "Bookie Battler" loves to say it how he sees it. He has had a crack at soothing your pain if you were on one of the many unlucky ponies.

Race 1 - MERRYLANDS RSL CLUB HANDICAP (3YO&UP F&M BM80) - 1900m

The Waller runners found the best ground to fight out Race 1

Miss Venus – 6th

The Race Guide Analyst team's video comment: (available in Form Guide) - "Jumped midfield, urged to lead (slow tempo), over-raced early stages, travelled well into straight and battled evenly along rails [bias off rails**]"

Bookie Battler comment: "You'd be gutted if you were part of the betting plunge on this girl at big odds. Waller had some whispers about the track that Les Bridge didn't get wind of. She never had a hope in the slow lane and Winona kept her hard against the rails. Close your eyes and say “I will always back Waller at Rosehill” five times and all will be forgiven.”

Don’t Tell Linda – 4th

The Race Guide Analyst team's video comment: “Jumped ok, held together (4th rails) (slow tempo), stuck behind leader 'til 175m and finished well nearer inside [bias off rails**]”

Bookie Battler comment: “Blocked by Miss Venus’ ample rear end and only got out when the fat lady had sung. She was a moral for a place and could have snuck the win. If you backed her, don’t worry, the owners of this country galloper will be more gutted than you.”

Race 2 - FAIRFIELD RSL CLUB HANDICAP (3YO&UP F&M BM75) - 1400m

Sensualism and All Salsa only got past My Sabeel late

My Sabeel – 2nd

The Race Guide Analyst team's video comment: “Jumped nicely (2nd 2W) (good tempo), travelled well off rolling tempo, went to lead 300m (drifting wider) and fought on [bias off rails**]”

Bookie Battler comment: “She did the grunt work and still wouldn’t lie down. Reckon this girl is flying and if you backed her you can be dirty on Brenton Avdulla for riding like he was late for a bus on the leader.”

Race 3 - DOOLEYS HANDICAP (3YO&UP BM95) - 1800m

Hoylonny got the dream run to win Race 3

Evangelist - 8th

The Race Guide Analyst team's video comment – “Jumped ok, urged to lead (good tempo), pressure mid-race, pushed home turn and just battled last 200m nearer inside [bias off rails**]”

Bookie Battler comment – “It stings the hip pocket when you lump your cash on a pony and the bias or tempo make it tough for them to win. When both are against, reckon you need to head to church and make some confessions. Someone up there doesn’t like you.”

Single - 3rd

The Race Guide Analyst Team’s video comment: “Jumped nicely (4th rails) (good tempo), travelled well into straight, cut to inside 375m and ran on [bias off rails**]”

Bookie Battler comment: “Hasn’t won for an age and trainer Craig Carmody would have been cheering as this guy chugged into the straight, but crying two seconds later when Winona had to cut back to the slow lane. Heart-breaking stuff. If he gets the winner’s run, he just wins. You can get your cash back next time.”
