Vet Notes

  • Force Ten (Race 1) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the nearside front leg and a veterinary certificate is required prior to racing again.
  • Lil' Angel (Race 1) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed a wound to the inside heel of the nearside front leg and a slow recovery.
  • Mihany (Race 2) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Pure Scot (Race 3) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Thousand Wishes (Race 5) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a small abrasion to the nearside elbow, offside wither and under its right eye.
  • Aperitif (Race 5) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed a throat abnormality and will require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
  • Leather'N'Lace (Race 6) - A post-race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. Under the provisions of AR79(4), Leather'N'Lace shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.
  • Ashlor (Race 7) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the outside of the off front leg.
  • Heptagon (Race 8) - Post-race endoscopy of Heptagon (NZ) detected a degree of internal exercise‑induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horse's racing performance and will require a veterinary certificate before being permitted to race again.
  • Sopressa (Race 9) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and mild thumps.

Penalties & Fines

  • Ethan Brown, Capito  was fined $400 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his allowance. Restrained shortly after the start.
  • Michael Kent, Trainer of Leodoro  was fined $200 under the provisions of AR206(2) for presenting the gelding to race with hoof pads which were not part of its official gear.
  • Nikita Beriman (Spirit of Aquada) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), the carelessness being that she permitted her mount to shift in when passing the 50m when insufficiently clear of Inn Keeper (J. Maskiell), thereby tightening his mount in onto Streets of Avalon, resulting in both Streets of Avalon and Inn Keeper having to be checked. Nikita Beriman had her licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight 13 April to expire midnight 26 April, a total of 15 race meetings (3 metropolitan, 12 provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account her guilty plea, record and that the carelessness was in the high range.

Summary of Races 

Race 1 THOMAS NORTH HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

  • Capito Ethan Brown was fined $400 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his allowance. Restrained shortly after the start.
  • Force Ten Raced wide without cover throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn before being eased down in the straight. Rider Nikita Beriman reported the gelding was immature and may not have been suited by the track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the nearside front leg and a veterinary certificate is required prior to racing again.
  • Imperial Lad Slow to begin.
  • Peak (NZ) Laid in under pressure in the straight. Apprentice Jack Martin reported his mount may appreciate tracks with more give.
  • Jacin Talee Tahlia Hope's explanation for being unable to ride the filly was accepted. Commenced awkwardly. Raced greenly in the straight and over the concluding stages laid out under pressure.
  • Lil' Angel Over-raced through the early and middle stages. Near the 500m when racing ungenerously was awkwardly placed close to the heels of Force Ten. Rider Michael Dee reported the filly raced greenly. Cast its off hind plate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a wound to the inside heel of the nearside front leg and a slow recovery.

Race 2 SELANGOR TURF CLUB HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

  • Danon Roman (JPN) Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider James Winks could offer no explanation for his mount's performance other than to suggest the horse may appreciate tracks with more give.
  • Mihany When weakening near the 400m became unbalanced when tightened for room by I Got You which attempted a narrow run to the inside of Intueri which, after initially shifting out slightly, shifted back in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Laughing Heir Tactics queried. Rider Jamie Mott stated he was instructed to ride the gelding quietly to enable his mount to finish strongly. Jamie Mott highlighted in recent starts the gelding has settled closer, however been unable to finish its races off. Jamie Mott added he was disappointed with the performance of the gelding which may now benefit from the addition of blinkers.
  • Electric Charlie Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
  • Zabalan (IRE) Slow to begin.
  • I Got You Settled behind the leader. Passing the 400m was held up for a short distance. Rider Jamie Kah reported after racing in restricted room near the entrance to the straight the gelding failed to respond to her riding. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3 POLYTRACK HANDICAP - 1600m metres:

  • Pure Scot Raced wide through the early stages before crossing to settle outside the leader. Apprentice Lewis German reported the mare had every opportunity and may appreciate tracks with more give. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • La Tigeresa Laid out under pressure in the straight.
  • Remember The Name It was noted shortly after passing the 300m was inconvenienced by Pure Scot that shifted out marginally. Held up rounding the turn and until obtaining clear running approaching the 200m.
  • Birth of Venus (IRE) Settled at the rear. Commenced a run three wide from the 800m.

Race 4 TILE IMPORTER HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

  • Mr Quickie Tactics queried. Apprentice Ethan Brown explained that with the slower tempo in the race and the weight carried today by Mr Quickie, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward earlier from the 700m, to gain momentum rather than run the risk of getting boxed in. Ethan Brown added he was satisfied with the performance of the gelding, however the weight impost may have been detrimental to its chances.
  • Winning Partner Stood flat-footed and slow to begin (2 lengths).
  • Starouz Settled behind the leader. Raced keenly in the early stages.
  • Star Missile Laid in under pressure in the straight.
  • Esthetic Raced wide without cover throughout.
  • Smiling City Approaching the winning post was steadied when tightened for room by Duke of Magnus (N. Beriman) which shifted in marginally and as a consequence was unable to be fully ridden out to the finish. Rider Nikita Beriman was severely reprimanded.

Race 5 WALK FOR PHIL HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

  • Thousand Wishes Late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.57 pm after being fractious in the barrier. Must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards in an Official Trial before being permitted to race again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a small abrasion to the nearside elbow, offside wither and under its right eye.
  • Thine Is The Power Late scratching at the barriers on veterinary advice at 2.57pm after being struck by Thousand Wishes in the adjacent stall.

All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on the late scratchings to be refunded.

All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket:

Win Bets - Lady Pluck - 17 cents

Place Bets (For winner) Lady Pluck - 13 cents

Place Bets (For 2nd) Rapidora - 21 cents

Place Bets (For 3rd) Tell Me - 18 cents

  • Enbihaar Eased from the start. Raced wide throughout.
  • News Girl Over-raced in the early stages. Settled one out one back. Tactics and performance queried. Rider James Winks stated that he was instructed to ride the filly with cover if circumstances permitted. Trainer Geoff Duryea when questioned explained that depending on how the filly began, there was an option for News Girl to lead or be ridden with cover due to the speed drawn to his outside. Geoff Duryea was reminded of his obligations to inform the Stewards of any change of tactics. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Aperitif Rider John Allen reported that the filly raced in restricted room to the inside of Lady Day over the final 200m and consequently was not fully tested. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a throat abnormality and will require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
  • Lady Pluck Raced wide without cover.
  • Graceful Storm Near the 700m had to be checked off the heels of News Girl which, when over-racing, steadied off the heels of Lady Day. Held up from the 300m until the 150m.
  • Lady Day Rider Linda Meech was of the opinion the filly may appreciate contesting events of a greater distance than today's 1100m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Rapidora Slow to begin.

Race 6 HYDERABAD R.C. HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

  • Khutulun Restrained in the early stages. Passing the 300m steadied away from the heels of Mamzelle Tess (J. Maskiell) which shifted out to improve. Rider Jason Maskiell was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground.
  • Leather'N'Lace Raced wide without cover throughout. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. Under the provisions of AR79(4), Leather'N'Lace shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.
  • Non Paear Underwent an adjustment to the bit on arrival at the barriers resulting in the start being delayed.

Race 7 LADBROKES HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

Riders Michael Poy (Streets Of Avalon) and Jason Maskiell (Inn Keeper) both reviewed the film before being satisfied there were no grounds for an objection and correct weight was declared.

  • Leodoro Trainer Michael Kent was fined $200 under the provisions of AR206(2) for presenting the gelding to race with hoof pads which were not part of its official gear.
  • Streets of Avalon Approaching the 50m was tightened for room and had to be checked.
  • Ashlor Led. Shifted out on straightening enabling Bandipur to obtain an inside run . When weakening steadied at the 200m after racing in restricted room between Bandipur and Streets of Avalon which shifted in slightly. When questioned, Tahlia Hope explained that on the home turn, her mount rolled out with her and a result of this, it afforded Bandipur to gain a run to its inside. Tahlia Hope further explained that in hindsight she should have made a greater effort to try and stay on the rail rounding the turn. In relation to the performance, Tahlia Hope stated that she was not overly disappointed as the gelding had sustained a laceration to its off front leg during the running of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the outside of the off front leg.
  • Inn Keeper Approaching the winning post, checked when tightened for room between Bandipur and Spirit of Aquada which shifted in under pressure when being ridden along.
  • Bandipur Passing the 50m was brushed on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.
  • Leodoro Slow to begin.
  • Mastering Commenced awkwardly. Laid out rounding the turn. Rider Zac Spain reported after the gelding commenced awkwardly his mount settled back, however never travelled and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Spirit of Aquada Race wide without cover throughout.

Race 8 LADBROKES ANNIVERSARY VASE - 1400 metres:

  • Hellova Street Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider Jason Maskiell reported his mount was not suited when pressured early and being obliged to race wide. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Sircconi Passing the 300m was disappointed for a run between Don't Give A Damn and Hellova Street which shifted in. Passing the 100m was again disappointed for a run between Snippets Land and Hellova Street which shifted in marginally and as a result was never fully tested.
  • Fastnet Tempest (IRE) Tightened after the start between Kemono (JPN) and Hellova Street which shifted out. Was held up from the 400m before gaining clear running approaching the 50m.
  • Snippets Land Held up from the 300m and did not fully obtain clear running until inside the 100m.
  • Kemono (JPN) Approaching the 1300m was checked to avoid the heels of Naantali (NZ) which shifted in. Passing the 800m was steadied off the heels of Naantali (NZ).
  • Snitzson Slow to begin. Over-raced through the early and middle stages.
  • Manolo Blahniq (NZ) Approaching the 1000m raced in restricted room to the inside of Sircconi. Held up from the 400m until then being disappointed for a run passing the 300m and then obtained clear running near the 150m.
  • Heptagon Had to be steadied at the 1000m when racing tight between Sircconi which shifted out slightly and Hellova Street which shifted in. Post-race endoscopy of Heptagon (NZ) detected a degree of internal exercise‑induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the horse's racing performance and will require a veterinary certificate before being permitted to race again.
  • Don't Give A Damn On arrival at the barriers required farrier attention. Shortly after dislodged rider Dean Holland. Within a short distance was captured, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race. In the early and middle stages raced keenly with its head up. Rider Dean Holland reported that despite being obliged to work through the early stages when wide on the course, the gelding was still disappointing but may appreciate tracks with more give. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Kemono (JPN) Had to be checked when tightened for room between Naantali (NZ) which shifted in before being straightened by its rider and Hellova Street which was taken out slightly by Heptagon (NZ) which, after being brushed on the hindquarters, shifted out. As Stewards could not attribute blame to any one rider, Stewards notified all riders to exercise care in similar circumstances in future.

Race 9 LE PINE FUNERALS HANDICAP - 2000 metres:

  • Emperor's Way Near the 100m was disappointed for clear running between Odeon (NZ) and Magnapal.
  • Prize Catch Raced wide without cover throughout.
  • He Or She Slow to begin.
  • Observational (GB) Restrained from the start.
  • Sopressa Near the 1600m was steadied when tightened for room to the inside of Emperor's Way which in turn was pressured by Prize Catch which shifted in before being straightened. Passing the 300m experienced difficulty obtaining clear running before shifting in near the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and mild thumps.
  • Sheezdashing Slow to begin.
  • Silent Warrior A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
  • Thunder Cloud Raced wide without cover from the 1000m.
