Vet Notes

  • Sinopia (Race 1) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a wound to the outside of the near-fore cannon region.
  • Religify (Race 9) –  A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small wound to the inside of the near-hind cannon.
  • Sure And Fast (Race 9) – The gelding was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Sure And Fast bled for the first occasion from both nostrils. Trainer Mr B Murray was advised that the gelding would be barred for three months under the provisions of AR53A.

Unlucky Runners

  • Bank Of Henry (Race 4) – on straightening was disappointed for a run between King's Officer and Van Halen, which held a tight line to its outside. In the incident, when being checked, Bank Of Henry shifted back in and bumped with Dashie De Luxe, which was shifting out at that point looking for a run. Bank Of Henry was then buffeted between Dashie De Luxe and Van Halen.

Penalties & Fines

  • App. J Taylor, rider of Grand Proposal (Race 4), pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that she permitted her mount to shift out under pressure for some distance passing the 100m, resulting in High Opinion (J McDonald) having to be checked and contributing to interference to King's Officer, which also had to be checked after receiving some tightening from Van Halen (App. R Hutchings). App. Hutchings was reprimanded and advised that he must make more effort to keep his mounts straight. App. Taylor's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 6 December 2015 and to expire on Sunday, 13 December 2015, on which day she may ride.

Summary of Races

RACE 1: International Animal Health Plate 1100m

  • Sinopia – slow to begin. When the pace steadied mid race, when being restrained off the heels of Geneteau, Sinopia ran out and bumped Attention. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a wound to the outside of the near-fore cannon region.
  • Taj Mahal – slow to begin.
  • Geneteau – raced ungenerously when being restrained to allow Rafha's Choice to cross rounding the first turn. When crossed at the 800m by Rafha's Choice (B Shinn), Geneteau then had to restrain off the heels of that runner. B Shinn was told to ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground.
  • Lucienne – near the 200m was struck down the shoulder by the whip of J Collett (Geneteau) when crowded for room between Attention and Geneteau, which was inclined to lay out when endeavouring to improve around Rafha's Choice. J Collett was advised to exercise more care.

RACE 2: Tyreel Stud ATC Cup (Listed) 2000m

  • Bring Luck – stood flat-footed and missed the start (6L). Stewards ruled that the gelding must jump away satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.

RACE 3: Watagan Grange Handicap 1200m

  • Skyclad – a veterinary certificate of fitness was tendered for the colt, which was withdrawn from its engagement at Warwick Farm on 11 November 2015 when it sustained an injury to the near-fore after shifting a plate. Skyclad was examined on course by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Began awkwardly.
  • Lady Sniper – slow to begin (2L).
  • Miss Liffey – crowded for room shortly after the start between Electric Tribute and Skyclad, both of which shifted ground.
  • Strike Force – near-side winker became detached passing the 900m.

RACE 4: TAB Highway Handicap 1500m

  • King's Officer – which was scratched on a veterinary certificate from the Rosehill meeting on 4 November 2015, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer upon arrival on course and passed fit to start. Trainer Mr T Robinson advised that the gelding had light work for two days following this and had pleased the stable since.
  • Royal Jackpot – raced keenly in the middle stages.
  • Bank Of Henry – on straightening was disappointed for a run between King's Officer and Van Halen, which held a tight line to its outside. In the incident, when being checked, Bank Of Henry shifted back in and bumped with Dashie De Luxe, which was shifting out at that point looking for a run. Bank Of Henry was then buffeted between Dashie De Luxe and Van Halen.
  • Eccitare – approaching the 200m had to be steadied when High Opinion shifted out. Rider P Wells advised he was obliged to cover ground and, as a result, the gelding weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • High Opinion – App. J Taylor, rider of Grand Proposal, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that she permitted her mount to shift out under pressure for some distance passing the 100m, resulting in High Opinion (J McDonald) having to be checked and contributing to interference to King's Officer, which also had to be checked after receiving some tightening from Van Halen (App.
  • Dashie De Luxe – rider K O'Hara stated she was given the option that if she did not begin quickly to be in a position to cross from a wide barrier that she might settle back in the field, which she ultimately elected to do. Trainer Mr R Price confirmed the instructions issued and was reminded of his obligation to notify the Stewards of any change in riding tactics.

RACE 5: The HQ of Insurance Starlight Stakes (Listed) 1100m

  • Tahitian Black – overraced throughout the early and middle stages.
  • That's A Good Idea – when questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, rider B Shinn stated that That's A Good Idea did not show its customary early speed, never travelled in the run and raced flatly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr P Snowden stated that That's A Good Idea was disappointing and undertook to report the results of a veterinary examination and provide the Stewards with advice as to the immediate racing plans for the gelding.

RACE 6: Goldners Horse Transport Handicap 1200m

  • Abohar – Mr Simon Homann, stable representative for trainer Mr R Laming and managing owner of Abohar, was questioned concerning a report from Racing NSW Surveillance and Intelligence Unit investigator, Mr N Ryan, who found a number of items in the feed room of a bank of on course stables, which were occupied solely by Abohar. Mr Homann gave evidence that he floated Abohar to Sydney, arriving at 4.45am on Friday morning. He added that this morning he obtained from a veterinary practice a syringe of saline and catheters, with a view to flushing out an eye duct infection, which had become apparent that morning. He stated, after taking advice from a Rosehill trainer that such actions would be regarded as raceday treatment, he did not proceed. Mr Homann denied any knowledge of a small vial containing a white powder, which was also found in the same area of the feed room. Abohar was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and found suitable to race. Pre and post-race samples were taken from Abohar and the syringe and bottle were sealed for forwarding to the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory for analysis for prohibited substances. Mr Homann was told that he should have more promptly reported the eye condition of Abohar to Stewards. After the Stewards confirmed with the veterinary practice that they had supplied a syringe containing saline and catheters to Mr Homann this morning, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry pending the results of the analysis of all items and samples. On return to scale a protest was lodged by Mr S Homann, managing owner of 5th placegetter, Abohar, against Elle Lou (App. T Marshall) being declared 4th on the grounds of interference over the final 200m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned, including App. L Grace, rider of Slots, the Stewards dismissed the protest when they found that Elle Lou, after racing on the back of Abohar into the straight, commenced to improve past that runner and, further, that passing the 200m Abohar was inclined to lay in away from Elle Lou which, when endeavouring to improve to the inside of Slots, which was shifting in. Further, Stewards found that close to the finishing line Elle Lou, which had improved to the inside of the heels of Slots, was crowded in onto Abohar and Hebden when Slots continued to shift in. In all the circumstances the Stewards were not of the view that had the interference not occurred to Abohar that that runner would have finished in front of Elle Lou. App. L Grace, rider of Slots, was told particularly over the latter stages he should have stopped riding and made more effort to keep his mount straight. Abohar was inclined to overrace in the early stages.
  • Typhoon Jolie – came together with Elle Lou on jumping. Approaching the 200m Typhoon Jolie ran up onto the heels of the tiring Palazza Pubblico. Palazzo Pubblico then shifted in, hampering Lucy's Look and Latin Salsa. Rider J Parr stated the only explanation he could offer for the disappointing performance of the mare was that it found the 1200m journey too short, albeit it won over that distance a fortnight earlier, but on a heavy track. He added, in his opinion, Typhoon Jolie was looking for more ground. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden agreed with the remarks of J Parr that the mare raced flat second up over 1200m and indicated that Typhoon Jolie will now be stepped up in distance.
  • Elle Lou – came together with Typhoon Jolie on jumping. Held up for some distance inside the 200m.
  • Palazzo Pubblico – at the 600m, when Hebden shifted to the outside of Miss Tenpins, Palazzo Pubblico and I Am Zelady were hampered and taken wider. Rider J Ford stated, in his opinion, the mare had not backed up from its 2nd placing last week on the same track. He added that he did have to make some use of his mount to take up a position early and did race more forward than he had intended. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr M Smith stated his intention will be to drop the mare back in distance and try and ride it more conservatively. He undertook to report back on the progress of the mare in the days subsequent.
  • Savoureux – near the 200m was steadied from the heels of Latin Salsa.
  • Lucy's Look – at the 100m Elle Lou persisted in endeavouring to improve to the inside of the heels of Slots. Abohar, which was laying in and away from Elle Lou, shifted in, tightening Palazzo Pubblico in onto Typhoon Jolie and Lucy's Look, resulting in Typhoon Jolie and Lucy's Look both being badly hampered.

RACE 7: Bedford CA Handicap 1500m

  • High Esteem – knuckled over on jumping away.
  • Double Bluff – hampered on jumping away when Ziggy Willie shifted in after beginning awkwardly.
  • Ziggy Willie – near the 1300 ran in away from The New Boy (App. B Loy), which crossed abruptly to the rails. In the incident Pythagorean had to be checked off the heels of Ziggy Willie and Final Decision, which was following, shifted in when being restrained and made contact with the rail. App. B Loy was told that the angle in which he crossed the field in the early stages was far too sharp and that he must give far more consideration to his fellow riders.
  • Pythagorean – overraced in the middle stages.
  • Figtree – lost its off-hind plate in running.
  • The Rumour File – rider B Shinn stated he was able to take up a favourable position, but when the pace quickened from the 700m the gelding was a beaten horse at that point. Stewards ruled The Rumour File must trial prior to racing again.

RACE 8: Sky Thoroughbred Central Festival Stakes (Listed) 1500m

  • Peace Force – trainer Mr G Ryan reported that the mare had pulled a plate at Flemington on 3 November 2015, but had not missed any work.
  • I'm Imposing – at the 50m was briefly hampered when Frespanol was taken out by Zanbagh (K O'Hara), which shifted out under the whip. K O'Hara was told to make more effort to keep her mounts straight.
  • Nevagotavote – rider App. S Clenton stated that the gelding was fractious in the barrier and wanted to overrace early so she elected not to fight it and allowed it to stride. She added the gelding was a beaten horse at the 600m and raced like a tired horse. Trainer Mr J Deamer advised Nevagotavote will now be spelled.
  • Tinto – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Frespanol – when questioned concerning his ride and, in particular, the gelding being ridden back in the field, T Huet stated that his instructions had been to be behind the pace in about 5th or 6th position. These instructions were confirmed with trainer Mrs G Waterhouse. T Huet stated that he had anticipated a very strong pace and rode his mount quickly early, but when caught three wide, finished up back further than he had anticipated. T Huet was told in the view of the Stewards he had erred in not being more positive early to comply with the instructions to be ridden just behind the pace.

RACE 9: Ranvet Handicap 1200m

  • Sure And Fast – trainer Mr B Murray reported to the Stewards that the gelding in early November, following an incident in its yard overnight, had pulled its near-fore plate, resulting in Sure And Fast being found to be lame in the near-fore foot. Mr Murray indicated Sure And Fast had missed approximately one week's work, however, has been cleared by his stable veterinarian and had pleased him since returning to work some two weeks ago. The gelding was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Sure And Fast bled for the first occasion from both nostrils. Trainer Mr B Murray was advised that the gelding would be barred for three months under the provisions of AR53A.
  • Puzzling Wonder – came together with Agent at the start.
  • Agent – overraced in the early stages. Came together with Puzzling Wonder at the start.
  • Crooked Blaze – jumped awkwardly and made contact with its nearside gate.
  • Bullpit – at the 700m became unbalanced after brushing the running rail. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened in the straight, did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Magical Stance – at the 450m Absalon made contact with Magical Stance when endeavouring to improve between Magical Stance and Turbulent Jet where there was not sufficient room. On the home turn, when Sure And Fast was steadied when positioned awkwardly to the inside of the heels of Puzzling Wonder, Turbulent Jet, which was following, shifted out abruptly off the heels of Sure And Fast and, in so doing, hampered Magical Stance.
  • Religify – trainer Mr C Waller stated he could offer no explanation for the performance, other than the gelding had to be used up early to cross closer to the rail. He undertook to report if there is anything amiss with Religify subsequent to the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small wound to the inside of the near-hind cannon.
