Vet Notes

Lean Mean Machine (Race 5) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame (3/5) in the off foreleg.
Dubhe (Race 8) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed Dubhe to be lame 2/5 in the off foreleg. Trainer C. Appleby was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Dubhe being permitted to race or barrier trial again.

Penalties & Fines

T. Berry (Lucky Imperator) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 350m he permitted his mount to shift out resulting in Autocratic having to be checked and losing its rightful running when crowded between Lucky Imperator and Extraordinary. T. Berry's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 21 April 2019 and to expire on Thursday 2 May 2019, on which day he may ride.
H. Bowman, the rider of Vinco, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 200m he directed his mount to the inside of Extraordinary when not clear of Autocratic, resulting in Autocratic having to be checked when crowded for room. H. Bowman's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 21 April 2019 and to expire on Sunday 28 April 2019, on which day he may ride.
M. Zahra, the rider of Power Scheme, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that over the concluding stages, whilst riding his mount along, he permitted it to shift out when insufficiently clear of Persan, resulting in Persan having to be checked when striking the heels of Power Scheme and falling, and further continued to shift out resulting in War Baron, which was positioned to the outside of Persan, falling when crowded by Persan. M. Zahra's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday 23 April 2019 and to expire on Sunday 2 June 2019, on which day he may ride. In addition, M. Zahra was fined the sum of $3,800.
W Costin, the rider of Bye See was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m, four more than is permitted.
J McDonald, rider of Verry Elleegant was fined the sum of $500 under AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

Summary of Races

RACE 1: Kings Of Sydney Sport Mile 1600m:

Autocratic – raced wide and without cover until approaching the 1000m. T. Berry (Lucky Imperator) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 350m he permitted his mount to shift out resulting in Autocratic having to be checked and losing its rightful running when crowded between Lucky Imperator and Extraordinary. T. Berry's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 21 April 2019 and to expire on Thursday 2 May 2019, on which day he may ride. H. Brown advised that Autocratic is a colt that requires its momentum to be built up and, after receiving interference near the 350m, his mount took some time to respond to his riding before again being interfered with at the 200m, whereby he then desisted from riding his mount out to the finish. He added that, in his opinion, had his mount not received interference in the straight it would have finished competitively. A post-race veterinary examination of Autocratic did not reveal any abnormalities.
Power Scheme – from its wide barrier, was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover in the middle stages.
War Baron – near the 1000m commenced to race keenly and, as a consequence, was steadied from the heels of Persan.
Extraordinary – near the 350m was hampered when momentarily crowded by Significance, which shifted in slightly.
Significance – raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.
Persan – M. Zahra, the rider of Power Scheme, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that over the concluding stages, whilst riding his mount along, he permitted it to shift out when insufficiently clear of Persan, resulting in Persan having to be checked when striking the heels of Power Scheme and falling, and further continued to shift out resulting in War Baron, which was positioned to the outside of Persan, falling when crowded by Persan. M. Zahra's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday 23 April 2019 and to expire on Sunday 2 June 2019, on which day he may ride. In addition, M. Zahra was fined the sum of $3,800. Trainer Mr D. Payne was advised that veterinary clearances would be required for both Persan and War Baron before being permitted to race or barrier trial again.
Aspect Ratio – from its wide barrier, was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Over the concluding stages was hampered when shifted out to avoid the heels of War Baron as that runner fell.
Foxborough – raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.
Galaxy – slow to begin. Over the concluding stages was checked to avoid the heels of Persan when that runner fell.

RACE 2: The Agency South Pacific Classic 1400m:

Tarka – was a late scratching at 11.06 a.m. acting on veterinary advice. The colt was transported to Randwick Equine Centre for specialist care.
Aylmerton – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Wild Planet – raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race.
Krone – Stewards permitted D. Oliver to ride the filly 1 kilogram over its declared weight of 53 kilograms. From a wide barrier, Krone was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Final Award – slow to begin. When giving ground approaching the 200m was steadied when crowded between Krone and Millard Reaction, which shifted in to improve. C. Williams advised that he had concerns with his mount's action in the straight and for this reason eased Final Award down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr M. Newnham was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Final Award being permitted to race or barrier trial again.
Napoleon Solo – from a wide barrier, was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Signore Fox – Stewards permitted D. Lane to ride the colt 1 kilogram over its declared weight of 53 kilograms. Hampered on jumping by Tahitian Dancer, which shifted in.
Tahitian Dancer – began awkwardly and shifted in.
Fasika – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have blood present in the nearside nostril. Trainer Mr J. Pride was advised that Fasika would be required to barrier trial or gallop 1000 metres before the Stewards prior to its next race start.
Green Aeon – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
Millard Reaction – slow to begin. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, rider S. Clipperton and Trainer Mr T. Edmonds gave consideration to whether there were grounds for protest against 1st placegetter Fasika. When connections were satisfied that there were insufficient grounds for a protest, and Stewards were similarly satisfied, correct weight was declared. Near the 150m, Millard Reaction endeavoured to obtain a narrow run between Fasika and Green Aeon, however, was steadied when disappointed due to Green Aeon (K. McEvoy) shifting out slightly. In this incident Millard Reaction and Green Aeon became unbalanced when they made contact. K. McEvoy was advised to exercise more care.

RACE 3: Polytrack Provincial Championships Final 1400m:

Turnberry – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
Archedemus – slow to begin and, shortly after the start, was steadied when crowded between Miss Redoble and Oakfield Twilight, which shifted out marginally. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight and near the 200m had to be checked to avoid the heels of the weakening Miss Redoble. Archedemus was then shifted to the outside of Miss Redoble to obtain clear running inside the 200m.
Spring Charlie – when positioned wide and without cover in the early stages, was then shifted in behind runners passing the 1200m. In the early part of the straight was inclined to lay in and was awkwardly positioned close to the heels of Bye See. At the 200m Spring Charlie had to be steadied when disappointed for clear running between Bye See and Oakfield Twilight and did not obtain clear running until near the 100m.
Golden Tycoon – began awkwardly, shifted out, made contact with Bye See and became unbalanced. Rider G. Schofield stated that with the colt stepping up to 1400 metres he elected to ride with cover in order to allow Golden Tycoon to be competitive over the distance. He said that after allowing Oakfield Twilight to cross his mount in the early stages, Golden Tycoon raced keenly, refused to settle and, as a result, did not run out the 1400 metres of today's event. He added that in the straight Golden Tycoon laid out as it commenced to weaken. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Stewards deemed the performance to be unacceptable. Trainer Mr G. McFarlane undertook to report back on the condition of the colt in the days subsequent.
Safado – slow to begin. J. Collett could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of Safado and advised that when the winner Bobbing improved to his outside on the home turn his mount was immediately under pressure and failed to run on from this point. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms K. Waugh undertook to report back on the post-race condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.
Chalmers – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Oakfield Twilight – hampered shortly after the start by Bye See, which itself was hampered and taken out by Golden Tycoon.
Bangkok – on straightening was steadied when disappointed for clear running between Turnberry and Eugene's Pick. Bangkok then did not obtain clear running until the 300m.
Bye See – Rider W. Costin was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m, four more than is permitted.
Oakfield Missile – slow to begin and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Mandylion – Overraced in the middle stages.
Fuchu – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

RACE 4: Camera House Percy Sykes Stakes 1200m:

Kiamichi – Rider H. Bowman stated that his intention was to race outside the leader but when Anaheed improved from its wide barrier he elected to obtain cover behind that runner. He added that in his view Kiamichi may be better suited when being ridden in the lead, however, he felt today's disappointing performance was due to Kiamichi having reached the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J. Cummings advised that Kiamichi will now be spelled.
Pin Sec – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr J. Cummings advised that Pin Sec will now be spelled.
Flit – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Athiri – raced wide and without cover from the 800m.
Villami – which lunged forward after being loaded into the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary officer and deemed suitable to race. Laid out over the final 100 metres.
Badia – slow to begin.
St Covet’s Spirit – between the 200m and 100m was held up on the heels of Athiri.
Kahlo – between the 300m and the 200m experienced difficulty obtaining clear running.

RACE 5: Arrowfield 3YO Sprint 1200m:

Lean Mean Machine – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 900m was hampered when taken wider by Trope, which was steadied to avoid the heels of Spanish Whisper. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame (3/5) in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr C. Waller was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Lean Mean Machine being permitted to race or barrier trial again.
Legend Of Condor – shortly after the start was crowded between Avantage and Classique Legend, which shifted in.
Classique Legend – shortly after the start shifted in making contact with Legend Of Condor and, as a consequence, became unbalanced.
Baller – raced wide and without cover. Near the 300m was steadied when crowded by Avantage (O. Bosson), which shifted out. O. Bosson was advised to exercise more care. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Sheriff – on jumping shifted out, making contact with Avantage and, as a consequence, became unbalanced.
Trope – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Avantage – began only fairly and, shortly afterwards, had to be checked when crowded between Legend Of Condor and Sheriff, which shifted out.
Spanish Whisper – Near the 350m was steadied when shifted to the outside of Baller to continue into clear running.
Prophet’s Thumb – slow to begin.
Causeway Girl – raced wide and without cover. Raced fiercely in the middle stages of the event.

RACE 6: Heineken 3 Australian Oaks 2400m:

Verry Elleegant – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Rider J. McDonald was fined the sum of $500 under AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
Aristia – As the filly entered the raceday tie-up stalls, an inspection of Co-trainer Mr M. Ellerton's gear bag identified a number of substances that, prima facie, were therapeutic, however, are in contravention of the rules of racing when present on course without approval. Aristia was subject to pre-race sampling and, on the assurance of Mr Ellerton that the filly had not been treated with these substances, the filly was permitted to take its place in the field. Mr Ellerton explained that the products were intended to be left at his temporary stabling accommodation, and the presence of them in the gear bag was an oversight by the stable. The matter was adjourned pending the analytical results of the substances in question. When questioned regarding the performance, rider D. Lane stated that the filly had had two testing runs on heavy track conditions leading up to today's race and this may have had an effect on her performance today. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. The Stewards will follow up with Co-trainer Mr M. Ellerton in respect of the post-race condition of Aristia.
Maracaibo – When questioned regarding his riding in the middle stages and why he elected to shift off near the 900m to improve, rider S. Baster stated that the filly is onepaced and he had instructions from Co-trainer Mr T. Busuttin to ensure that as the filly is one-paced to commence improving from the 800m.
Aliferous – In the straight hung in under pressure.
Scarlet Dream – Held up for clear running until the 300m and then at the 250m was steadied when disappointed between Verry Elleegant and Romani Girl. Scarlet Dream was then shifted to the outside of Verry Elleegant to secure clear running at the 200m.
Clementina – began only fairly and shortly afterwards was hampered by Aristia, which shifted out. From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Autumn – began awkwardly and then was steadied when crowded between Imelda Mary and Frankely Awesome, both of which shifted ground. Overraced in the early stages and near the 1900m made contact with the running rail. For some distance near the 900m Autumn (T. Clark) raced in restricted room between Clementina and Scarlet Dream (B. Shinn), which commenced to shift out to follow Aliferous. B. Shinn was reprimanded and advised that he must exercise more care. In assessing penalty Stewards were mindful that T. Clark had advised that his initial shift was as he had endeavoured to obtain running on the back of the favourite Verry Elleegant.
Rocknavar – slow to begin and, from the outside barrier, was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1900m, struck the running rail and became unbalanced. Held up for clear running behind Happy Every Day near the 300m.
Romani Girl – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
Bye Bye Belle – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Bye Bye Belle was eased down by its rider on the home turn before fatally collapsing at the 300m. Bye Bye Belle was taken to the University Teaching Hospital Camden for autopsy. Trainer Mr M. Kent was requested to provide his veterinary and treatment records for the filly.
Happy Every Day – T. Wolfgram dropped his whip passing the 300m.

RACE 7: Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2000m:

Hartnell – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Harlem – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
He’s Eminent – When questioned, J. McDonald stated that his intention was to lead, however, He's Eminent, which was racing in ear muffs for the first time, did not respond to his urgings in the early stages and as a consequence, after beginning only fairly, raced back in the field. He said that throughout the run He's Eminent did not travel and was a beaten horse from the 600m. He added that, in his opinion, He's Eminent is not suited to racing behind other horses. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Mask Of Time – blundered shortly after the start.
Danzdanzdance – near the 1800m, when inclined to race keenly, was steadied to avoid the heels of Winx (H. Bowman), which shifted in. H. Bowman was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
Shillelagh – When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages, B. Avdulla stated that after obtaining a position forward of midfield he felt the tempo increase and, as his mount was not travelling well enough to hold its position, he elected to not pressure his mount in the early stages, which resulted in Winx being able to cross his mount and take up a position in advance.

RACE 8: Schweppes Sydney Cup 3200m:

Patrick Erin – held up for clear running until the 250m.
Red Cardinal – slow to begin and had to be checked when crowded between Glory Days and Top Of The Range, which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. From a wide barrier Red Cardinal was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Big Duke – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Sir Charles Road – App. R. Dolan replaced A. Adkins as the rider of the gelding. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race.
Yogi – slow to begin (2L). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than that Yogi had lost its off-fore and near-hind plates in the running.
Brimham Rocks – raced keenly in the early stages resulting in the gelding improving to take up the lead near the 2200m.
Dubhe – slow to begin. For a short distance near the 200m was held up on the weakening Semari before shifting to that runner's inside to secure clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Dubhe to be lame 2/5 in the off foreleg. Trainer C. Appleby was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Dubhe being permitted to race or barrier trial again.
Glory Days – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Rondinella – Stewards permitted S. Clipperton to ride the mare 1 kilogram over its declared weight of 51 kilograms.
Shraaoh – near the 2100m was steadied to avoid the heels of The Taj Mahal, which was taken in by Vengeur Masque (D. Oliver), which shifted in when not clear. D. Oliver was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
Semari – Stewards permitted T. Clark to ride the mare 1 kilogram over its declared weight of 51 kilograms.
Top Of The Range – began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.
Doukhan – began awkwardly.

RACE 9: Coolmore Legacy Stakes 1600m:

Alizee – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Daysee Doom – near the 700m was taken wider by Fundamentalist, which shifted out to improve.
Invincible Gem – shortly after the start had to be steadied when crowded between Prompt Response and Miss Siska, which shifted out slightly. When commencing to make ground near the 200m became awkwardly placed on the heels of Fundamentalist, was steadied to avoid that runner's heels and was shifted in near the 150m, whereby it secured clear running.
Unforgotten – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Eckstein – began awkwardly.
Princess Posh – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Spanish Reef – slow to begin.
Amphitrite – began only fairly and then was crowded between Seabrook and Dixie Blossoms, which was taken in by Alizee.
Nakeeta Jane – from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Seabrook – raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race.

RACE 10: TAB Sapphire Stakes 1200m:

Invincibella – Rider H. Bowman stated that his mount was not suited by the fast early pace and, as a result, he was unable to make up significant ground in the straight, albeit he was not too disappointed with the mare's performance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Winter Bride – T. Berry dropped his whip passing the 300m.
Siren’s Fury – began awkwardly and was crowded by Savatiano, which shifted out. Siren's Fury was then shifted behind runners in the early stages.
Egyptian Symbol – was crowded on jumping between Zumbelina and Resin, which shifted out and away from White Moss.
Savatiano – S. Clipperton replaced G. Schofield (overweight) as the rider of the mare due to G. Schofield being required to take on fluids.
Zumbelina – raced wide and without cover throughout.
Irithea – Stewards permitted J. Parr to ride the mare ½ kilogram over its declared weight of 54 kilograms.
Teleplay – raced wide and without cover throughout.
