Stewards confirmed the instructions with trainer Dan McCarthy that it was his intention to have the gelding ridden forward with cover given the expected quick tempo of the race. He said while the horse had been ridden in forward positions previously this was due to the circumstances of those races and that he had not instructed riders to lead in the past.
  • Iconoclasm Raced wide without cover.
  • Miss Leonidas Rider Damien Oliver reported that it was his intention to race off the rail down the side and rounding the home turn as in his opinion the going was better away from the rail and that he rode the mare conservatively at the top of the straight until near the 200 metres in an attempt to help Miss Leonidas run out the 1200 metres. He added that the mare then weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.
