Warwick Farm Previews

Published: 07 Jan 2016

Warwick Farm goes ahead today after a deluge of rain throughout the week. Very HEAVY conditions will make it a test for the horses and those with the best wet track credentials are sure to come out on top.

The Previews for the races are shown below. You can also visit the Live Race Day Conditions to keep up to date with the track and CrownBet's racing page to take the odds below (all odds as at 12:45pm).

Race 1 - TAB MORE THAN JUST WINNING HANDICAP - 1:04pm

  • Prizemoney: $40,000.00
  • Restrictions: Two-Years-Old Fillies
  • Class: Maiden
  • Weight: Handicap
  • Apprentice: can claim
  • Distance: 1000m
  • Tempo: FAIR (forecast)

Warwick Farm goes ahead despite the heavy Sydney weather, looking for wet trackers will be the order of the day (rail in the TRUE). Young 2yo fillies in the opener; BELLA VINO (by EXCEED AND EXCEL) was 3rd, 3rd and 5th in trials, DEMILUNE (by DOMESDAY) was 2nd in a trial, HUSSTERICAL (by BENETEAU) was 2nd in a trial, INVINCIBELLA (by I AM INVINCIBLE) was 4th and 1st in trials, KENTUCKY MISS (by FOXWEDGE) was 1st in a trial, MEGA MALL (by PENDRAGON) was 7th and 3rd in trials, MISS HASSLETOFF (by TOORAK TOFF) was 9th in a trial, SNOW SURRENDER (by SEPOY) was 6th and 3rd in trials, VIENNA WALTZ (by SNITZEL) was 2nd and 1st in trials. INVINCIBELLA and DEMILUNE trialled against each other on the HEAVY and looked like nice athletic types. VIENNA WALTZ has the breeding and the speed to show up.

Race 2 - SCHWEPPES PLATE - 1:39pm

  • Prizemoney: $40,000.00
  • Restrictions: Three-Years-Old
  • Class: Maiden
  • Weight: Set Weights
  • Apprentice: can claim
  • Distance: 1100m
  • Tempo: FAIR to STRONG (forecast)

Scratchings impact this 3yo 1100m sprint and a few other races on the card. The tempo should still be FAIR to STRONG through with some on-pacers engaged, including Waller's first-starter by BENETEAU, the bay gelding CRUISE POWER. He looked like a 'pro' in a recent trial and gets the services of James McDonald today. Two key threats are ASPEN STAR (Blinkers off, 4th in two trials) and ELEMENOHPEE from the Hawkes stable (no trials). YUMA DESERT is an each-way chance down the bottom of the weights.

Race 3 - CAFE CULTURE INSITU HANDICAP - 2:14pm

  • Prizemoney: $40,000.00
  • Restrictions: Three-Years-Old Fillies
  • Class: BenchMark 66
  • Weight: Handicap
  • Apprentice: can claim
  • Distance: 1400m
  • Tempo: STEADY (forecast)

Four Fillies only over 1400m after race day scratchings. Waller with three of the four and SEBRING SALLY has done it all before, winning a STEADY tempo (likely scenario here) and HEAVY track race first-up last campaign at Geelong. PEDRILLE will be hard to beat though, showing improvement last start onto a HEAVY track and she does have a turn-of-foot too. No knock on TSARITSA, but she is unknown in a tactical battle like this. Even ALERT BY SEA could surprise if she showed some form away from her home track.

Race 4 - TAB REWARDS HANDICAP - 2:54pm

  • Prizemoney: $40,000.00
  • Restrictions: Three-Years-Old and Upwards
  • Class: BenchMark 71
  • Weight: Handicap
  • Apprentice: can claim
  • Distance: 1400m
  • Tempo: STEADY to FAIR (forecast)

Not a lot of on-pacers, GOCUP BELLE should roll along at a STEADY to FAIR tempo up to 1400m. What to do with ZIGGY WILLIE, a very consistent horse that gets into his races but rarely hits the line with gusto. A place bet is usually wiser for him if you can trust young Adkins to find the right spot - he handles the wet OK. In a very open race, the lightweight horses are right in the mix, all with decent wet track stats. BARDIYA is a tough competitor at best and HYPERNICUS a more athletic type that could enjoy the conditions. MOSHULU (by SHOW A HEART) is a big chance if he handles the track, his run last start was better than it looked. MOSHULU Blinkers OFF AGAIN.

Race 5 - HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP - 3:29pm

  • Prizemoney: $40,000.00
  • Restrictions: Three-Years-Old and Upwards
  • Class: BenchMark 71
  • Weight: Handicap
  • Apprentice: can claim
  • Distance: 2200m
  • Tempo: STEADY (forecast)

Just five race day acceptances over 2200m and GET ON THE GRANGE (Winkers on) comes from by far the superior form-line. If he hold his form and handles the conditions, it is hard to see him getting beaten. ASKANND continues to frustrate and must be a strong place chance again, he is the likely leader of a STEADY tempo. RED VIKING and ROAMING AROUND aren't hopeless, but their ratings don't match with the top weight

Race 6 - PRO-RIDE HANDICAP - 4:05pm

  • Prizemoney: $40,000.00
  • Restrictions: Three-Years-Old and Upwards Fillies and Mares
  • Class: BenchMark 64
  • Weight: Handicap
  • Apprentice: can claim
  • Distance: 1100m
  • Tempo: FAIR to STEADY (forecast)

A sprint race for the girls over 1100m, the tempo could be FAIR to STEADY with LOVE AND LIES and TERMELE going forward. EDGE AWAY finally won on wet ground last start when a couple of things went her way. She sets a solid benchmark here, but is far from unbeatable. RENESMEE is a big question mark from a stable that doesn't mind a bet. Her trial was OK (2nd of 8) and she's well worth a watch in the yard and the market. A similar scenario for RACY, who just hasn't quite been at her top recently and comes into this off no trial. Reliable each-way bets come in the form of LOT THREE FOUR ONE and TERMELE in a very tricky race. LOVE AND LIES pulled up lame last start. BITE THE MEDIA Blinkers FIRST TIME.

Race 7 - TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP - 4:45pm

  • Prizemoney: $40,000.00
  • Restrictions:Three-Years-Old and Upwards
  • Class: BenchMark 72
  • Weight: Handicap
  • Apprentice: can claim
  • Distance: 1100m
  • Tempo: STRONG to FAIR (forecast)

Not an easy event to finish off the day, there's some early pressure so a STRONG to FAIR tempo is likely. Looking for horses that can surge late in wet conditions; SLYDINI (blinkers off) fits that profile coming off a very quiet trial (9th of 10 behind Roman Odyssey), while veteran FLORAL INSIGHT could be ridden quietly today and isn't badly weighted in this grade. ANECDOTE (stuck wide last start, up in weight now), COSMIC CAMEO (very tough, but question at track), TYPEFACE (solid, but every chance last start) and STOP THE PRESS (out of form?) all have some sort of question mark on them, but could win on best ratings. ROMAN ODYSSEY and PROMPT RETURN are a good win gamble if they parade well.
