  • Sairyn Fawke, rider Flow Meter  pleaded guilty to breaching the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip seven times prior to the 100-metre mark, which is two more than permitted. Sairyn Fawke was fined $1000. Stewards took into account the totality of his whip use, the fact that it was a distance event, that he ran 2nd, his guilty plea and poor record.
  • Apprentice Tahlia Hope, rider Invincible Al  pleaded guilty to breaching the provisions of AR211, in that she weighed in more than 0.5 kilograms overweight. Tahlia Hope was fined $300.
  • Apprentice Tahlia Hope, rider Killarney Kid (NZ)  had her permit to ride in races suspended for a period to commence midnight 22 June 2019 to expire midnight 30 June, a total of eight race meetings (2 metropolitan, 6 provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the fact that it was a distance event, the totality of her whip use, her guilty plea and record.
  • Damien Oliver, rider Chouxting the Mob (NZ)  pleaded guilty to breaching the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 10 times prior to the 100-metre mark, which is five more than permitted. Damien Oliver had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence midnight 26 June 2019 and to expire midnight 4 July, a total of eight race meetings (2 metropolitan, 6 provincial). Stewards took into account the fact that he won the race, it was a distance event, the totality of his whip use, his guilty plea and good record.

Summary of Races 

Race 1 GIPPSLAND REGION HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

  • Pancho Change of tactics, to be ridden quieter with cover from wide barrier. Restrained at the start and settled back.
  • Evening Glory Raced three wide without cover.
  • Orienzel Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
  • Noble Fight Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 1100m when over-racing shifted out to avoid the heels of Orienzel and as a result then raced four wide without cover. When weakening had to be steadied to avoid the heels of St Edward's Crown which shifted out near the 200m.
  • Mrs Beckham (NZ) Raced keenly for some distance passing the 1000m.
  • Skiddaw Had to be eased near the 150m when racing in restricted room between Busby which shifted out and The Astrologist which shifted in. Rider Damien Oliver reported that in his view the horse may be better suited stepping back in distance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
  • Brave Enough Rider Noel Callow could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

Race 2 THE MURRAY REGION HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

  • Ice Girl Slow to begin.
  • Flying Krupt Slow to begin. Rider Craig Williams reported that his mount failed to handle today's slow track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Mamzelle Tess Jumped away awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover.
  • Habesha Jumped away awkwardly.
  • Cincinnati Red (NZ) Apprentice Chelsea MacFarlane could offer no explanation, other than in her opinion the mare may have been racing in the worst part of the track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

Race 3 - GRAMPIANS REGION HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

  • She Knows Slow to begin and then had to be steadied away from the heels of Invincible Al which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.
  • Hard Empire Jumped away awkwardly.
  • Invincible Al Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out. Commenced to over-race and had to be steadied away from the heels of Single Bullet passing the 1000m. Apprentice Tahlia Hope pleaded guilty to breaching the provisions of AR211, in that she weighed in more than 0.5 kilograms overweight. Tahlia Hope was fined $300.
  • Single Bullet Jumped away awkwardly, resulting in Jamie Mott almost losing the use of his nearside iron. Rider Jamie Mott reported that the gelding was not suited by the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Prezado Jumped away awkwardly. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Held up over the concluding stages and went to the line not being fully tested.
  • Smart Coupe When giving ground had to be steadied away from the heels of I'm Telling Ya which shifted in approaching the 100m.

Race 4 GREAT OCEAN ROAD HANDICAP - 2520 metres:

  • Octabello Change of tactics, to be ridden further back with cover. Slow to begin. Settled towards the rear of the field. Rider Beau Mertens could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
  • Observational (GB) Jumped away awkwardly. Apprentice Stephanie Thornton could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
  • Killarney Kid (NZ) Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover. Apprentice Tahlia Hope pleaded guilty under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 13 times prior to the 100-metre mark, which is eight times more than permitted. Tahlia Hope had her permit to ride in races suspended for a period to commence midnight 22 June 2019 to expire midnight 30 June, a total of eight race meetings (2 metropolitan, 6 provincial). Race 5 - 2019 COUNTRY ACHIEVER AUSTY COFFEY HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

  • Galaxy Raider Slow to begin.
  • Harbour Grey (NZ) Slow to begin. Rider Noel Callow reported that the gelding did not handle today's soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Liffeybeau Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.
  • Laure Me In Jumped away awkwardly and was then hampered when tightened for room between Play Master which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out and Liffeybeau which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in. Lost its off hind plate. Apprentice Michael Poy reported that the gelding may be better suited over a longer distance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
  • Play Master Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.
  • Street Tough Got its head up when over-racing in the early stages.
  • Groundbreak Lost its off fore plate.

Race 6 DAVID BOURKE PROVINCIAL PLATE - 1600 metres:

  • Five Kingdom Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Tactics queried. Apprentice Lewis German advised that his instructions were to ride the horse with cover. He added that Five Kingdom raced keenly with the slow early tempo. In his opinion the horse is now looking for races over a longer journey and may also be better suited ridden more prominently.
  • Sacred Theme Rider Dwayne Dunn reported that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
  • Evil Cry Apprentice Harry Grace reported that the horse did not feel comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
  • Curragh Rider Jason Maskiell pleaded guilty to breaching the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) and was fined $500 for using his whip nine times prior to the 100-metre mark, which is four more than permitted. Race 7 A.R. CRESWICK STAKES - 1200 metres:

  • Advancing Jumped away awkwardly.
  • Halvorsen Lost its near fore plate.

Race 8 MACEDON AND GOLDFIELDS HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

  • Heavenly Emperor (NZ) Fractious in barrier. Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4.06 pm. A warning will be placed on the gelding. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on the late scratching to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket:

  • Mr Exclusive Raced four wide without cover in the early stages. Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.
  • Careca (NZ) Over-raced in the early stages.
  • Gottaluvtrucks Raced three wide without cover. Rider Dwayne Dunn reported that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Stewards will follow up with the stable

Race 9 BRIAN BEATTIE HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

  • Call Me Handsome (IRE) Change of tactics, attempt to ride midfield with cover from wide barrier. Settled towards the rear of the field.
  • Blazejowski Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up from the 400m before gaining clear running near the 300m.
  • Reykjavik Jumped away awkwardly.
  • River House (NZ) Raced four wide without cover.
  • Federal Rider Craig Williams reported that the gelding which was second up today raced a little flat. However, he was not overly disappointed with the performance of the horse which he felt would derive improvement from today's run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
  • Reflectivity Rider Dwayne Dunn advised that in his view the horse did not handle today's soft track conditions.
  • Crown Fontein Raced three wide without cover. Rider Sairyn Fawke pleaded guilty to breaching the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) and was fined $400 for using his whip eight times prior to the 100-metre mark, which is three more than permitted. Stewards took into account the totality of his whip use.
