Weekend Wet Trackers - Royal Randwick

Published: 06 Sep 2014

The early Winter months in Sydney were dry and sunny, but things have definitely changed in recent weeks. Wet tracks have been the norm lately and Royal Randwick has come up as Heavy again today.

The Royal Randwick course is tough at the best of times, with thick lush turf and an uphill 'rise' just after the turn. When conditions are wet, you need the right horse to carry your cash.

The Analyst team looks at the horses that will lap up the mud.

Race 4, Number 4 Clover Lane

She won't be as impressive as the colts in the mounting yard, however she is a pretty resilient little galloper that tries hard in the wet. If some of the bigger horses start slipping around she just might be the one to nip home best.

Tries hard - Clover Lane could surprise the colts

Race 5, Number 1 Sacred Falls

He is a leaner and more efficient looking colt and Waller has him racing in great heart lately. A very Heavy track plays right into his hands and he is sure to be fighting on late.

Very genuine - Sacred Falls never gives in

Race 6, Number 8 Target in Sight

He has a nice athletic frame and the advantage of fitness will help him to maintain a strong sprint in the muddy conditions. If horses are swooping down the outside he will be very hard to hold out.

Fit and athletic - Target in Sight will be running on late

Race 7, Number 6 Weary

A very tough grey galloper that couldn't find the pure speed needed last start. Has always shown a liking for wet tracks and Hugh Bowman will make sure he gets the best out of him this time.

A tough grey - Weary can turn things around today

Race 8, Number 15 Dowdstown Charlie

Simply lacked the power needed to speed home on a very dry track last start. He is a far superior galloper in the mud and David Payne couldn't have hoped for better conditions.

Loves the mud - Dowdstown Charlie gets his favourite conditions
