Opening Trades

All the odds for Golden Slipper Day are now on-line with our partner CrownBet as the focus turns to Sydney for the next five weeks.
The new queen of the turf WINX takes on her talented stable-mates PRESS STATEMENT and KERMADEC along with tough Kiwi TURN ME LOOSE in riveting George Ryder Stakes, one of five Group Ones on the card.
And if that isn't enough, Newcastle's Newmarket Handicap has been added as Race 10 after the Beaumont track wasn't fit to race on today.
The best early 'buys' and 'sells' acrss the two cards are shown below.
Rosehill Race 4 - Ranvet Stakes
SELL CRITERION at $5 and MONGOLIAN KHAN at $10
They both dropped back first-up and looked a touch lean in the yard, always a worrying sign at the start of a campaign. MONGOLIAN KHAN could improve if the heavens open and it's a wet track, but that doesn't seem like happening now.
Laying them both could be a smart move.
Rosehill Race 6 - Rosehill Guineas
BUY MONTAIGNE at $10
It doesn't look like the markets have taken into account that he was unlucky in the Randwick Guineas, plus that race rated higher than the Australian Guineas, which favourite TARZINO came 2nd in.
Following the better form-line for a stayer of the future is big early value.
Rosehill Race 7 - Golden Slipper
BUY STAR TURN at $41
His place chances are probably better in a hot field Golden Slipper field, but this big strong chestnut is way better than his last start suggests.
After getting stuck wide and left on a limb, he battled on OK for 5th behind EXTREME CHOICE. A run that was good enough to get our attention.
Rosehill Race 7 - Golden Slipper
BUY KISS AND MAKE UP at $9
He made a mess of CAPITALIST and WEATHERLY last start, sending the latter to the spelling paddock in the process. Mick Price's colts are good, they just might be too short in the market.
Picking the best Sydney form-line is a smart early move.
Rosehill Race 10 - Newcastle Newmarket Handicap
SELL NANCY at $5.5
She's one hell of a fighter and might have strengthened up this prep, but NANCY still lacks the sprint and power of many of the other horses in this race.
A dry Rosehill track and conditions that put her 10kg above her handicap rating look like too much to overcome.
