The Championships Day Two Acceptances
Published: 05 Apr 2016
The final acceptances have been announced for most of the big Group One features on the card at Royal Randwick this weekend. After the decision from the Waller stable to not run Champion mare WINX in the Queen Elizabeth, we can all settle down to study some intriguing battles.
Despite leaving WINX in the paddock, Waller still has the early Queen Elizabeth favourite in BMW winner PREFERMENT, who drops back to 2,000 metres to take on Godolphin gallopers HAURAKI and IT'S SOMEWHAT. Ranvet Stakes winner THE UNITED STATES and the flashing LUCIA VALENTINA are also right in the race.
HAPPY CLAPPER backs up from the Doncaster to run in the Queen Elizabeth too, as does AZKADELIA in the Group One Coolmore Legacy Stakes over the Randwick mile (formerly the 'Queen of the Turf'). She takes on fellow Melbourne raiders SUAVITO, MISS ROSE DE LAGO and the filly BADAWIYA, who has drawn the outside barrier. Sydney hopes are in the hands of ZANBAGH, ARTISTRY and SLIGHTLY SWEET.
And the first Group One of the day will the Australian Oaks, a real test for the three-year-old fillies over 2,400 metres. JAMEKA has accepted after her 2nd in the Derby to take on the fast finishers from the Vinery Stakes a couple of weeks ago.
