Horse of the Week:  English

Published: 19 Apr 2016

Rapid sprint finish - English dashed to the front in the All Aged Stakes and held on

Some thought the Group One All Aged Stakes was a disappointing field this year with only small numbers and no big name champions. You'd have to say that's a harsh assessment though considering KERMADEC beat home all bar Winx in the Group One George Ryder and ENGLISH stormed home with Chautauqua in the Group One TJ Smith.

And of course, Winx and Chautauqua have since been named as two of the highest rating horses in the world!

ENGLISH went on to win the race from BLACK HEART BART and KERMADEC with a gap back to the rest. The Analyst Team think it's a form race to follow and the fillie's win was a standout choice for Horse of the Week.

  • She came 2nd to Vancouver in the 2015 Golden Slipper making it a Gai Waterhouse quinella that year
  • Often a horse that gets unsettled at a race track, she's much calmer once she has left the mounting yard!
  • It looks like she's heading north now for the Brisbane Winter Carnival
  • Her dam Court won the Group 3 BTC Classic over the Brisbane Carnival in 2009

Hard to handle - The Waterhouse filly leaves the mounting yard very quickly
