Top 5 Early Insights

Published: 05 May 2016

Melbourne to Sydney and Adelaide - The speedy Secret Agenda has arrived for the Carnival in South Australia

There's mixed form-lines across the country this weekend, Gold Coast's tight circuit hosts the Hollindale Stakes, a race that Godolphin has strongly supported with three runners HAURAKI, IT'S SOMEWHAT and OLD NORTH.

Down in Adelaide there's two Group Ones, three-year-old fillies in the Oaks and the sprinters in the Ubet Classic. And at Rosehill, a very evenly-matched Lord Mayor's Cup will test the most diligent form analyst's patience.

Ahead of The Race Guides for Rosehill being published Friday at 9am, the Top 5 Early Insights are provided below.

No. 1 Kiwi Class

There's some improving three-year-old stayers in Race 4 at Rosehill Gardens, including the Cummings filly TOP OF MY LIST and on-pacer POWER OF PATCH. But don't underestimate the Kiwi raiders again, ROMANTIC MAID is a nice type with the turn-of-foot to relish Rosehill.

If she's fit and well on Saturday the early odds look attractive.

No. 2 Autumn Form hits Adelaide

We've seen Melbourne form-lines measure up well over in Adelaide for the recent black-type racing, so expect Sydney Autumn Carnival form to be hard to beat too. Both SECRET AGENDA (Race 5) and GRIANTE (Race 7) come out of the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes last start and we know they handle a left-handed track.

Bet now on SECRET AGENDA at $4.4 and GRIANTE at $7.5

No. 3 Sir Needs Space

Waller's SIR BACCHUS (Rosehill Race 5) is a very talented sprinter as we saw first-up when he dashed home from last. Jason Collett found plenty of space on the inside that day, which is key for a galloper that doesn't like tight spots.

Beware of taking short odds from barrier 3 on Saturday unless the horses are fanning across the track by Race 5.

No. 4 Not North?

Godolphin hold the cards in the Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast and it's hard to work out why OLD NORTH is so short in the market. Both HAURAKI and IT'S SOMEWHAT produced honest efforts in the Group One Queen Elizabeth and will enjoy a return to a dry surface.

OLD NORTH is improving, but he's still way behind on the ratings compared to his stable-mates.

Bet now on HAURAKI at $2.9 and IT'S SOMEWHAT at $12

No. 5 Fresh Cover Girl

ELOPING, TINA MELINA and MISS COVER GIRL are all good first-up sprinters in the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast, but only one of them has drawn a barrier. MISS COVER GIRL retains Glen Colless after a quiet recent trial.

She'll have more sprint in her legs than MISS TENPINS and always fights hard.
