Top 5 Early Insights

Neat and agile - The mare Noble Protector shouldn't have any problems around the Doomben track

Brisbane is picking up steam and we're only weeks away from a return to the much improved Eagle Farm racecourse. This weekend it's the running of the Doomben Cup over 2,000 metres, a competitive race if not the highest quality Group One we've seen.

125 acceptors across eight races makes it a very big day down in Adelaide too for Goodwood Handicap Day. While back in Sydney punters are left with only 101 acceptances across nine races, but there's still some value to be found.

Ahead of The Race Guides going on-line Friday at 9am, the Analyst Team provide the top Early Insights.

All odds provided by CrownBet.

No. 1 Doomben Go Kart

Only two of the ten horses in the Group One Doomben Cup have raced at the track before, LEEBAZ and MAURUS, which leaves questions on the rest of the runners. IT'S SOMEWHAT is a big-striding type that will need galloping room to navigate the tight turns, while OUR IVANHOWE seems like a horse that might struggle.

The neat strong mare NOBLE PROTECTOR has nipped around the bends of Moonee Valley before with ease. She could be the one.

No. 2 Apprentice 'Fest'

Most of the top jockeys have left Sydney to race in Adelaide or Brisbane for the Carnivals so Sydney punters are left with the trick question "does a 2kg claim make up for years of experience?"

The answer of course is, "sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't!"

If you're not a punter that likes the risk associated with backing the younger hoops, there's value in following the experience jockeys in place markets. They're more likely to deliver a good ride and give their horses every chance.

No. 3 Two Mile Mission

An English stayer with a turn-of-foot that has won three from five of its runs over 2,400 metres. Sounds good doesn't it!

Add the fact that this horse is from the in-form Darren Weir stable and you have a pretty good case for backing MASTER ZEPHYR.

He's the one to beat in the two mile Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington (Race 7).

No. 4 Power Ponies

The dry Rosehill track on the weekend will favour the more powerful types with a genuine sprint.

Looking for horses that fit the profile at longer odds, PINDAN PEARL (Race 8) and LE CORDON BLEU (Race 9) should both perform well, while SPIETH could explode again in Race 3!

No. 5 Finally Time?

There's lots of Set Weights events at Morphettville on the weekend, which gives the classier types a chance to carry lower weights. METAPHORICAL is one of those in Race 4, a mare that often places but hasn't won in her last nine starts.

She's found the right race and should be very competitive.

Bet on METAPHORICAL now at $5.5
