Opening Trades

The girl in blue - Sydney's Imposing Lass could make up for a Blues loss last night

A 'wet track' made the State of Origin a dour slog last night and the same could happen at the races this weekend.

After years of redevelopment at Eagle Farm the organisers in Brisbane are nervous at the thought of two to three inches of rain on Saturday. With newly laid turf that still needs time to mature and bed down, we're all holding our breath and hoping the track is up to the challenge.

Either way we won't be seeing a Queensland winner this time in the Group One feature. Filles from the south dominate the Queensland Oaks, with an imposing front-runner the pick of our early trades.

Queensland Oaks

BUY IMPOSING LASS at $7.5

"A big strong girl from Bjorn Baker's stable in Sydney that leaves the tight turns of Doomben and the Gold Coast for the wide expanses of Eagle Farm. She'll roll along near the pace and be very hard to shake down the straight. Perhaps fellow Sydney-sider FALKENBERG is the best chance to beat her too."

Queensland Oaks

SELL SELF ESTEEM at $13

"She's a bold on-pace filly that runs the 2,000 metres through guts and determination alone. She's not bred to get a mile and a half we should see her tire late on the wet track."

QTC Cup

SELL KAEPERNICK at $3.7

"He's a muscular son of Fastnet Rock that sprinted well on a dry track over 1,100 metres fresh and is now faced with extra distance and a muddy surface. Doesn't sound like a recipe for success."

Randwick Race 6

BUY MORE THAN FABULOUS to place at $5

"A very consistent galloper that relishes the wet and is right down in the weights, sounds like the right combo for this weekend! 20 starts for 1 win and 10 places suggests there's only one market to play in."

Randwick Race 7

BUY FIGTREE at $5.5

"He's a big-striding galloper that hasn't found room at critical moments in two runs this campaign. Up to 1,500 metres is a slight risk, but the odds are more than fair for a horse ready to win."
