Run Profiler: Falkenberg in The Roses

Published: 02 Jun 2016

FALKENBERG is leading contender in the Group One Queensland Oaks this weekend after an unlucky run in The Roses at Doomben. The Analyst Team looks at what happened two weeks ago over 2,000 metres on a good dry track.

The start

Watching the replay closely you could see jockey Damian Browne wasn't comfortable in the barriers before they jumped, repeatedly looking down at his right iron and moving around in the saddle.

When the barriers opened his focus wasn’t on getting his horse out with the pack and FALKENBERG was a couple of lengths slower than the field.

800 metres from home

She had made some progress into the pack mid-race before a shuffle up at the 800 metre mark left her out the back again. A tricky position locked up along the rails without much room to move.

150 metres from home

You can only speculate if Damian Browne had given up by this point, but he didn't use much vigour when FALKENBERG needed to fight into a gap 150 metres from home. She was only ridden hands and heels as the jockey waited for the space to open up.

At the finish

A little bit of space late gave us the chance to see what she was capable of, FALKENBERG warming up and hitting the line over the last 50 metres. "Nothing went right for her whatsoever" was the comment from the race caller as they all went past the line.
