  • Suboric – hampered on jumping. Near the 250m became badly unbalanced when bumped by Dubaiinstyle. Stewards inquired into an incident whereby T Clark's right arm made contact with the torso of T Angland, rider of Dubaiinstyle. After considering all of the evidence Stewards were satisfied that when T Clark became unbalanced due to his mount making heavy contact with Dubaiinstyle, he lost balance, which resulted in his arm making contact with T Angland, as he endeavoured to rebalance himself. In the circumstances no action was taken.
  • Classic Uniform – T Berry (Kingsguard) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Classic Uniform, resulting in that runner being taken in onto Louie Sea Kay, which was crowded in onto Tenorino, which was also crowded, became unbalanced and made contact with the running rail. A Hyeronimus (Dark Eyes) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Classic Uniform, resulting in that runner having to be checked and losing its rightful running. A Hyeronimus' licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Friday, 5 August 2016 at the expiration of a suspension incurred in Race 1 today and to expire on Sunday, 14 August 2016, on which day he may ride. When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding and in particular why his mount was caught three deep without cover for the major part of the race, S Clipperton stated that as notified by the Stewards prior to the event his instructions had been to endeavour to find cover. He added, after jumping well and working his way forward, he was reluctant to make use of his mount to cross Louie Sea Kay and Tenorino as his mount can have an inclination to overrace. S Clipperton further stated that when Louie Sea Kay commenced to overrace and maintained its position to his inside, he was then obliged to remain racing three wide for the remainder of the event. Stewards advised S Clipperton that in their opinion he had erred in not allowing his mount to stride forward in the early stages and take up a position closer to the rail and that his ride lacked the necessary decisiveness at that particular point of the race.

  • Lautaro – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Something Borrowed – when questioned regarding the gelding settling back in the field App. J Innes Jr stated he had been instructed to take up a midfield position, but his mount jumped awkwardly, resulting in his left leg making contact with the barrier. He added as a consequence he almost lost his iron, requiring him to reposition his iron in the early stages, resulting in Something Borrowed losing ground. He further stated his mount was then inclined to overrace throughout the early and middle stages.

RACE 5: TAB Rewards Handicap 1500m

  • Super Tycoon – slow to begin.
  • Final Decision – knuckled over badly on jumping away and became unbalanced.
  • Obsidian – had difficulty obtaining clear running for some distance approaching the 200m.

  • Wine 'N' Dine – rider J Ford stated the only explanation he could offer for the disappointing performance was that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer's representative Mr C Duckworth concurred with the views of rider T Berry and indicated the intention would be now to step the gelding up in distance and depending on its barrier will attempt to ride it closer to the speed.
  • Better Not Blue – when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider T Marshall stated in his view his mount was not entirely comfortable on the track surface, which was showing signs of wear, and failed to travel throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small wound to the inside of the off-fore fetlock. Trainer Ms M Ritchie stated Better Not Blue had pleased her in the lead up to today's race, but in light of today's performance would be spelled. Ms Ritchie undertook to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the gelding subsequent to the race.

When questioned, rider T Angland stated that after taking up a forward position, and after being crossed by Slate On Edge approaching the 600m, he elected to shift off, which resulted in what he considered his main danger, Painte, being taken three wide at that point. He added, after obtaining clear running at the top of the straight, his mount was somewhat disappointing in its failure to finish the race off and on a number of occasions it dipped in the going, particularly when racing in restricted room between Painte and Taddei Tondo near the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
  • Taddei Tondo – had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.
  • Forget – when questioned regarding his riding of the gelding and particularly the reason he settled towards the rear of the field, App. J Innes Jr stated that he had been instructed to take up a midfield position on the gelding. He added that after commencing reasonably well, when runners to his inside held their ground and Barbed, which was positioned directly to his outside went forward, he elected to take hold of his mount and settle in a position at the rear of the field rather than travel three wide. App. Innes further stated that from the 600m he rode his mount along in an attempt to make ground and, after initially taking some time to respond to his riding, Forget finished the race of solidly over the last 100m. Stewards advised App. Innes that in their view he had erred in the early stages by taking hold of his mount to allow Barbed to cross, which result in Forget getting too far back in the race and setting the gelding a difficult task in having to make up ground. He was further advised that in future he would be expected to ride his mounts in a manner whereby he follows the instructions issued wherever possible.
  • Barbed – App. K Jennings stated in his view the gelding failed to handle today's soft track conditions as it never travelled at any stage throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J O'Shea advised Barbed will now be spelled. He undertook to report back if there was anything amiss with the mare subsequent to the race.
  • Thud – a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare bled for the first time from both nostrils. Co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden was advised Thud would incur the mandatory three month ban from racing (AR53A).
  • Extensible – when questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the straight and in particular the reason he elected to follow Thud through rather than immediately improving behind Frill Seeking and Bonete, S Clipperton stated that whilst he had no specific instruction as to where to make his run he was mindful of the pattern of racing today and he had formed the view that away from the rails was superior and therefore he elected to follow the favourite Thud in the early part of the straight, however when that runner did not improve as he had expected he was then obliged to shift back to the inside of Thud to find clear running. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that his actions had not affected his placing. He was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ensure he takes any run available as soon as it presents itself.
