Caulfield Cup - The Unlucky Runners

"Cornered Like a Truck" - Who Shot Thebarman didn't enjoy Caulfield

The Caulfield Cup was an epic encounter and the moment they fanned on the turn sent shivers up the spine.

It is hard to say the best horse didn't win in Admire Rakti, but who were the unlucky runners that could have finished closer? The Analyst and the Bookie Battler from The Race Guide team provide their thoughts.

Lucia Valentina

Analyst comment - "Got well back, started to improve around Admire Rakti on the turn but got pushed very wide and lost ground. Picked up late to finish hard last 100m."

Bookie Battler comment - "Kerrin McEvoy didn't look too happy afterwards and I reckon he would be beating up on himself a bit. If he smokes his pipe behind the Japanese horse and peels out late, who knows what happens."

Junoob

Analyst comment - "Stuck wide with no cover mid-race, lacked the sprint on the turn when asked (as is usual) but picked up strongly late."

Bookie Battler comment - "Waller is a genius, but don't know what he was doing sending this bloke forward. A couple of soft Randwick wins went to his head maybe. My grandma has more of a turn-of-foot and he was always going to get swamped when the whips got cracking. Better getting a trail and punishing them late."

Who Shot Thebarman

Analyst comment - "Travelled well until he reached the home turn when hung badly. Tightened for room early in the straight and only balanced up late to finish off ok."

Bookie Battler comment - "There were a few whispers before the race that this guy had the turning circle of a truck. That was spot on and he ended up as the ham in a Waller runner sandwich too. Forgive run for mine. I'm getting on for the Cup!"
