Rider B Shinn (More Than Fabulous) was reprimanded for shifting in near the 1800m and as a consequence Doukhan was steadied and taken in towards the heels of Doc Holliday and having to be steadied and further that he continued to place pressure on Doukhan in the early stages, resulting in that runner racing unnecessarily tight to the inside of More Than Fabulous. Rider B Avdulla stated, after striking interference in the early stages of the event and then racing tight for some distance approaching the first turn, he elected to shift to a three wide position to provide his mount with some racing room. He added his mount travelled comfortably throughout the middle stages, but from the 800m was under pressure and gave ground noticeably. He said however that the colt became unbalanced when under pressure in the straight on a number of occasions and he attributed this to the soft conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden stated that Capitalist had pleased the stable leading into today's race and he agreed with the assessment of B Shinn that the colt was not comfortable on today's soft track conditions, particularly as it had to give weight to a number of other runners in the race. App. Adkins was reprimanded and advised that he must stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion and, furthermore he would be expected to make more effort to give back to runners the room to which they are entitled. Rider R Hutchings stated that, after striking interference on the first turn, his mount then raced keenly throughout the event and when placed under pressure in the straight was inclined to hang in and proved difficult to ride. He added the gelding was also unsuited by the moderate early tempo. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had aggravated a speedy cut to the off-hind fetlock. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth agreed with the assessment of R Hutchings and undertook to report back to the Stewards on the progress of Sacred Master subsequent to the race.

  • Ruling Dynasty – when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider G Schofield stated the horse, which was coming back in distance today, which he attributed to its testing first up run. He added that in his view Ruling Dynasty would be better suited by being stepped up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. • Snoopy – held up until passing the 200m. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the straight, rider T Berry stated, after following Hidden Warrior in to the straight, he observed that runner to shift off slightly and, although he was aware that there was a run developing between Hidden Warrior and Kangarilla Joy, he was reluctant to improve into that position as he felt he would have placed his mount in an awkward position due to the fact he was racing half a length behind Kangarilla Joy. He added as a consequence he remained racing on the back of Hidden Warrior as he felt that runner would have continued to shift out and present a run to its inside, however when Hidden Warrior shifted out back to the fence he was then held up on the back of that runner for some distance, whereby he was obliged to come to the outside of Kangarilla Joy to obtain clear running inside the 200m. Stewards were satisfied that whilst at the stage T Berry had initially committed to improve to the inside of Hidden Warrior and at this time in their opinion there was only doubtful room to do so, his actions in the circumstances were reasonable.
  • His Majesty – held up for some distance until passing the 200m.
  • El Sasso – rider B Shinn stated that his mount was unsuited by racing three wide without cover close to the lead and as a consequence gave ground in the straight.
