Not the Type - Race Factors were against Boss Lane at Rosehill
The weights, ratings and speed-map specialists hit Rosehill Race 8 in force as Boss Lane was sensationally backed late.
He came into the race seemingly well positioned, with a low weight thanks to Taylor Marshall’s claim and the tactical speed to put himself into the race.
The one thing analysts didn’t account for were the Race Factors against him.
Boss Lane is a ‘no-frills’ and tough sprinting type that can maintain a solid run to the line. What he lacks is brilliance, the rapid pace needed to perform on a fast Rosehill surface. When the gallopers reached top speed into the straight he started to struggle and was left behind by stronger types.
He is a very similar galloper to Mount Nebo, who also tends to struggle at Rosehill when the track is racing fast.
Don’t dismiss Boss Lane back at Royal Randwick, where he can track up the famous rise better than most. And keep an eye on The Race Guide’s profiles to get across the Race Factors, it just could make the difference between a win and a hard-luck story.
