He's the man - Sam Kavanagh is the most in-from trainer in Sydney
'Big Sam' kept the good times coming on Saturday.
It doesn't matter what race, which horse and how tough the competition is when he saddles up a horse at the moment. Saturday was just another day at the office when his two horses, Centre Pivot and Tales of Grimm, both won at Rosehill.
Nine wins out of his last 22 starters have saluted. A massive stat!
New owners are already heading his way and international horses are hitting the stable.
Sound a bit 'Wallerish' maybe? Let's hope he can take on the big guns.
Excuses, Excuses
Some horses just don't know what they're doing out there!
Waller's Delectation has all the talent in the world, but he has the smarts of a pre-school dropout. Bowman had to deal with another trick from the monstrous son of Shamardal when he did a 'dance' at the 150 metres and took a left foot step, leaving the door open for Scissor Kick.
He's starting to look like a bit like 'ol Earnest Ernest... just a few lengths better.
What next? - Delectation starts to wonder around in the lead
One Cool Kid
Speaking of Earnest Ernest, the look on James Mac's face when he came out to ride the old rogue was a sight to be seen, The talented young Kiwi 'hoop' hadn't looked that nervous since It's A Dundeel slipped over in the pre-parade before the Queen Elizabeth.
Earnest Ernest had bucked Winona Costin off at Rosehill just seven days before.
The young jockey kept his composure and guided Earnest Ernest to a very solid placing, the best trainer Jo Pride could have hoped for. And we all know the result in the Queen Elizabeth last Autumn.
He's one cool kid under pressure.
Plotting a plan - Jo Pride and James McDonald discuss the ride on Earnest Ernest
Hot Streak
Taiyoo continued on his merry way on Saturday, despatching the field by three lengths to claim his fifth win from his last six starts.
Darren Weir just keeps working miracles as a trainer, but what's even more amazing is how the odds never seem to change. Quotes of 9/4, 9/4, 7/2, 9/4, 5/2 and 13/8 have been put up by the bookies over the last six starts.
Always a similar price and always the same result!
Tough, but slow
Gai Waterhouse turned up with five tough looking ponies on the weekend and didn't get a return.
What happened?
They're ready to go in the yard, looking like they're fit enough for a 'tough mudder' course after plenty of yards on the training track.
Maybe Royal Randwick in the wet would have seen some winners come her way. On a dry and fast Rosehill course, the 'toughies' were just too slow.
Not fast enough - Pajaro couldn't sprint with them on Saturday
The 'Who Cares' Stakes
At 6:25pm on Saturday we got a BM 78 at Sandown worth 40 grand.
Why?
A bit of extra cash for the race clubs is the answer. If we don't bet on them, you can be sure they'll go away...
