A classic early Spring Weight For Age contest that has brought together a small, but intriguing, field. Four gallopers come from the Tramway (1400m) and three from the Chelmsford (1600m) of two weeks ago. Things are spiced up a bit by Teronado leaping with his awkward strides from a Brisbane Class 6 event and Panzer Division representing the three year-old year. There are some question marks on the form-lines of the younger horses coming into this grade and Dissident's 6th in this same event last year (as a three year old) indicates how tough it is. Lucia Valentina could be the most exciting horse in the race after an unbelievable sprint finish to win the Tramway. It is a big ask to win this second-up though, and any rain could help her compete with the faster short-course types as she heads towards a Cups campaign in Melbourne. Hawkspur won the Chelmsford thanks to a canny Jimmy Cassidy ride and he sets the benchmark again along with stable-mate Royal Descent. The value in the race is Toydini, who the Hawkes clan had looking in fine fettle before a promising first-up run. Will Waller's 'regulars' control things again, or is there a surprise in store?
