Some good quality gallopers make up a small field over the middle-distance of 1800m. Gai Waterhouse is sure to be keen to end the recent run of Chris Waller and she has the ammunition here with one of her better horses - Laidback Larry. Four of the seven in this race lined up in the 1600m event won by I'm Imposing two weeks ago, which was characterized by a rare 'fast tempo', making the job of Laidback Larry and Keep Cool a tough one. The Waterhouse horse ended up fighting on bravely and gets a nice weight turnaround on the other three. The key competitor with different form-lines is Black Jag, who has been very brave in recent weeks and will be hard to run down. With an honest tempo likely, the dour Reigning could have a chance too after being outsprinted behind Specific Choice last start. The stars could be aligned for 'Larry' if he can bounce back from his tough first-up run.
