The race that was so often the launching pad for the champion Winx into the Spring is far more competitive this year, but we'd all rather see the big white 'M' storm down the middle of the Randwick turf one more time, even if it was at $1.10! Not much early speed in the race, big trial winner SAMADOUBT taking control with INVINCIBLE GEM kicking up and LE ROMAIN coming across (tempo: FAIR to STEADY). No good things here with questions over HAPPY CLAPPER (best 1400m form but trials just fair, now a 9YO), AVILIUS (back in distance), LE ROMAIN (lots of positives, but form a question), VERRY ELLEEGANT (back to 1400m on firm ground?), KINGS WILL DREAM (gets back on inside) and YOUNGSTAR (out of form). BEST OF DAYS, UNFORGOTTEN and INVINCIBLE GEM (nice first-up, can be flat second-up sometimes) all set to run solid races and could be the each-way plays in the race. [updated 8:52am]
