Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens

Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 23 April 2016

The James Cummings' winning caravan rolled on at Rosehill Gardens under drizzly skies with a winning double post autumn carnival.

MUY BIEN was the first of his winners ridden to an all the way victory by James McDonald, while Glyn Schofield kept the successful partnership going getting the most out of HIGH MIDNIGHT to hold off HIS MAJESTY in a good finish.

The QLD Oaks picture is looking a little more rosy for Bjorn Baker as his filly IMPOSING LASS led wire-to-wire to state her intentions heading north to the Brisbane carnival. Anthony Cummings also looks to have another lovely three-year-old in his stable as TOP OF MY LIST rattled home along the inside in running second.

Earlier in the day, John O'Shea produced the well bred colt IMPENDING (Lonhro x Mnemosyne) to run away with 2yo honours, while Chris Waller's SIR BACCHUS took out the first race with Jason Collet showing no fear along the rails from last.

The track played Fairly overall with a downgrade from a GOOD 4 to a SOFT 5 prior to Race 8 and the last race being run under very dark skies.

A full review from the yard to the post will be online @9am tomorrow.

Race 1 HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP

Waller starts off post carnival with a winner

fair tempo

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Sir Bacchus Joseph Pride Jason Collett 7 59.0
2 So Willie Chris Waller Tye Angland 2 57.5
3 Dark Steel Peter & Paul Snowden Brenton Avdulla 3 58.0

In The Yard

REINCARNATE a strong type. SIR BACCHUS compact, looks well as does DARK STEEL. Light, misty rain falling. Others ok.

In The Running

IN HER TIME was ridden out of a wide gate and pressed forward from WUDANG MOUNTAIN. DARK STEEL slid through along the rails inside of REINCARNATE. SURFIN' SAFARI over raced for some distance in the middle stages, as did SIR BACCHUS.

The Result

REINCARNATE (4th) came out and joined DARK STEEL (3rd) before SIR BACCHUS (1st) raced through along the inside and bolted away. SO WILLIE (2nd) chased hard to the line. They gapped the rest.

The Interest

The recent trial of SIR BACCHUS was enough to show his ability fresh and a gun ride by Jason Collett who didn't think twice about using the rails after the leaders drifted on straightening. He showed good power to draw clear for a big win. SO WILLIE dug in deep fresh to pass a few running into second giving Chris Waller the quinella in the race. DARK STEEL held ground after getting a nice run behind the speed. The favourite REINCARNATE didn't show the sprint we have come to know and was disappointing. Follow SIR BACCHUS (holds form fresh) and SO WILLIE (over longer). Forgive IN HER TIME (suffered cardiac arrythmia).

Race 2 PLUCK @ VINERY HANDICAP

Godolphin flex another of their well bred 2yo muscles

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Impending James Cummings James McDonald 3 57.0
2 Eckstein Chris Waller Ms Heather Poland 2 55.0
3 Sylpheed Matt Cumani Tim Clark 8 55.5

In The Yard

ECKSTEIN saddled up and exited the yard early. IMPENDING strong & relaxed. GRETNA a leaner type. very alert. No knock others.

In The Running

SYLPHEED drove forward to a clear lead from ECKSTEIN who settled inside of MOOSHAKISSA. GRETNA raced wide throughout.

The Result

SYLPHEED (3rd) led until well into the straight before IMPENDING (1st) took over and drew clear from the 200m. ECKSTEIN (2nd) rallied along the rails and GRETNA (4th) kept coming out wide.

The Interest

A great debut from IMPENDING! A well bred Lonhro colt out of Mnemosyne, he was simply too good as he settled well and unleashed a great sprint at the 200m. ECKSTEIN was keen mid-race and jockey Heather Poland got the best out of her late as she rallied again along the inside and hopefully her race manners will improve. SYLPHEED ran an ok race out in front, while GRETNA was forced to cover a stack of ground and ran on well. AVIATOR looked to peak on his run out wider. MOOSHAKISSA was not ridden out to the line. Follow IMPENDING. Forgive GRETNA (wide throughout).

Race 3 JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM HANDICAP

Delight for favourite backers yet again

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Murphy's Delight Eric Musgrove Hugh Bowman 2 59.0
2 Rhodin Drive Gwenda Markwell James McDonald 4 58.5
3 He's Dreamin' Rodney Northam James Innes Jnr 3 59.0

In The Yard

MURPHY'S DELIGHT relaxed & well. SECATEUR a little on toes. DOC HOLLIDAY a tall, leggy type.

In The Running

RHODIN DRIVE rolled to the lead from SECATEUR with HE'S DREAMIN' and LUCKY LIAISON taking the sit. The favourites settled in the last pair.

The Result

RHODIN DRIVE (2nd) was hard ridden rounding the turn and quickly dropped SECATEUR (4th) before MURPHY'S DELIGHT (1st) railed well and finished better along the inside. HE'S DREAMIN' (3rd) stuck on ok in behind.

The Interest

With the pace taken out of the race due to MR STEAL'S late scratching, tempo was always going to be the query. MURPHY'S DELIGHT was ridden patiently by Hugh Bowman who used the rail and run down RHODIN DRIVE in the closing strides. The winner proved the distance was no problem and the win was well deserved after racing consistently this preparation. The well backed DOC HOLLIDAY never got going with the lack of tempo and was disappointing. No follows or forgives.

Race 4 TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP

City delight for Muswellbrook trainer Michael Hewitt

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Sassaby Michael Hewitt Taylor Marshall 10 54.0
2 Galaxy Warrior Gayna Williams Ms Samantha Clenton 8 59.0
3 Caribbean Concert Danny Williams Jay Ford 14 54.0

In The Yard

GALAXY WARRIOR fit & well. JUNGLE big & strong. LAREDO HUSSLER relaxed. SASSABY out early as was ALLZIN who was on toes.

In The Running

SUMITRO pushed through to lead from STREET SAVVY who took a while to cross. SVAVARSSON raced wider in behind. ALLZIN missed the start.

The Result

SASSABY (1st) loomed up strongly at the 300m out wide and skipped clear, pulling a big enough break on GALAXY WARRIOR (2nd) who got out when the race was all over. CARRIBEAN CONCERT (3rd) and OH SO UNFAIR (4th) both made plenty of ground.

The Interest

SASSABY pulled out plenty to the line after racing very wide (with cover) the entire trip and deserved the win for Muswellbrook trainer Michael Hewitt. He was entitled to tire after the wide run but the last 50m was most encouraging. There were plenty of good runs in behind with the odds-on favourite GALAXY WARRIOR being badly held up from the 300m and coming home late, however was safely held on the line. The eye-catcher of the race was CARRIBEAN CONCERT who was hooked widest after settling last and made up plenty of ground down the middle, while OH SO UNFAIR relied on a rails run to run on. BALAMETALICA was held up at the top of the straight for some time. Forgive GALAXY WARRIOR and BALAMETALICA (held up ).

Race 5 SCHWEPPES HANDICAP

An Imposing QLD Oaks mission awaits for Bjorn's Lass

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Imposing Lass Bjorn Baker Jason Collett 9 54.5
2 Top of My List Anthony Cummings Sam Clipperton 2 54.0
3 Moher James Cummings James McDonald 7 56.5

In The Yard

QLD Oaks bound fillies CHANDANA, FALKENBERG and IMPOSING LASS all parade well, very relaxed.

In The Running

IMPOSING LASS crossed to lead MOHER with CHANDANA along the inside of FALKENBERG. HEMBROOK missed the start.

The Result

IMPOSING LASS (1st) travelled well to the turn and gave a kick in the straight to hold off the fast finishing TOP OF MY LIST (2nd). MOHER (3rd) stuck on ok in behind.

The Interest

Bjorn Baker was confident in his filly IMPOSING LASS, and she didn't disappoint after jumping favourite in the race. She took control of the race and was strong on the line after finishing off in a tidy 33.85 for the last 600m. The QLD Oaks still looks a realistic target for her, as it would for FALKENBERG who chased gamely, just lacking a turn of speed when it counted. Runner-up TOP OF MY LIST looks to be another classy 3yo on the rise for Anthony Cummings as the daughter of Beauty Watch finished off the race in style along the inside. CHANDANA was disappointing after having every chance and is now looking for more ground. Follow IMPOSING LASS and TOP OF MY LIST.

Race 6 TAB MORE THAN JUST WINNING HANDICAP

All Good for James Cumming's Spaniard

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Muy Bien James Cummings James McDonald 3 57.0
2 Unequivocal Noel Mayfield-Smith Mr Lester Grace 4 61.0
3 Sahara Chill Kane Harris Christian Reith 6 56.0

In The Yard

PARRAY a lighter frame. UNEQUIVOCAL holding condition ok. MUY BIEN fit and solid. No knock others.

In The Running

MUY BIEN rolled forward to an easy lead from SWEET KISS. TREMEZZINA raced wide without cover in behind, outside of PARRAY and SORT AFTER.

The Result

MUY BIEN (1st) travelled strongly into the straight and never looked in doubt striding clear to hold off the late challenges of UNEQUIVOCAL (2nd) and SAHARA CHILL (3rd).

The Interest

She looked fit in the yard and that was what told late as MUY BIEN held them all at bay with James McDonald rating her a treat in front. Albeit quite a bunched finish, she is consistent and professional, and that is all you can ask. UNEQUIVOCAL showed no signs of her fitness tapering off after the Provincial Championships and rattled home with the big weight after being held up several times in the straight and arguably should have won. SAHARA CHILL was well placed third-up by Greg Bennett and that was a big improvement. Follow MUY BIEN. Forgive UNEQUIVOCAL (held up).

Race 7 BOWERMANS OFFICE FURNITURE HANDICAP

Schofield keeps James Cummings on a High

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 High Midnight James Cummings Glyn Schofield 1 61.0
2 His Majesty Kim Waugh Brenton Avdulla 8 59.5
3 Spy Decoder Anthony Cummings Jason Collett 6 61.0

In The Yard

HIGH MIDNIGHT muscular, coat well. MAN OF CHOICE fit & well. FAROLITOS fit enough. HIS MAJESTY ready to go.

In The Running

HIMALAYA DREAM rolled forward to lead SAPPHIRE PATCH with HIGH MIDNIGHT getting the trail. HIS MAJESTY raced much handier to the speed. CANDELARA was slow to begin.

The Result

HIS MAJESTY (2nd) moved up strongly to challenge at the 200m with HIGH MIDNIGHT (1st), with the latter going home the better, picking up along the inside. They were a class above SPY DECODER (3rd) which chased hard.

The Interest

HIGH MIDNIGHT had the benefit of a recent trial and fitness showed at the finish as he held off the challenge of HIS MAJESTY. Freshness was the key to success for trainer James Cummings and showed he is big enough to carry the weight. HIS MAJESTY had every possible chance once camped in behind the speed in a more forward position and simply found one better on the day. SPY DECODER is hard to catch on the race track, although he showed promising signs in finishing off well down the middle. FAROLITOS looks to have come back in good order and MAN OF CHOICE raced well against the older horses and is improving each start. Follow HIGH MIDNIGHT and FAROLITOS.

Race 8 MCGRATH ESTATE AGENTS HANDICAP

Kim Waugh's galloper continues to climb new Heights

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Hetty Heights Kim Waugh Brenton Avdulla 4 59.0
2 Nite Rocker Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou Mr Lester Grace 5 61.0
3 Rockolicious Darren Weir Hugh Bowman 11 61.0

In The Yard

HETTY HEIGHTS holding condition well. WELL HARDLY EVER athletic frame. PAINTE parades well and relaxed.

In The Running

NITE ROCKER jumped best to lead PAINTE with NAT KING CU racing wide outside of WELL HARDLY EVER and SIGNPOSTED. BRING LUCK missed the start.

The Result

NITE ROCKER (2nd) gave a great sight in the straight, leading all the way until HETTY HEIGHTS (1st) made a late lunge on the line. ROCKOLICIOUS (3rd) also made a long, sustained run, while ZEDFAST (4th) finished off powerfully out wide.

The Interest

HETTY HEIGHTS had the form on the board when rocketing home in the Provincial Championships Final and that was good enough in a bunched finish. She picked up best and was a good effort under the big weight. NITE ROCKER and ROCKOLICIOUS were others to carry big weights and not much split them yet again. ZEDFAST worked home very well and now looks suited out in distance, and PAINTE was not beaten far. Follow ZEDFAST (over further). Forgive NAT KING CU (wide throughout).

Race 9 TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP

Matthew Smith and 'The Gun' strike under dark skies

Place Silk Horse Trainer Jockey Gate Kgs
1 Palazzo Pubblico Matthew Smith Brenton Avdulla 2 55.0
2 Miss Tenpins Bjorn Baker Glyn Schofield 4 55.0
3 Grunderzeit James Cummings Ms Samantha Clenton 5 56.5

In The Yard

MOGADOR relaxed. FREEZE THE CHARGES a little on toes. PRINCEFAMOUS fit and ready. ALART holding condition well.

In The Running

FREEZE THE CHARGES jumped best to lead PRINCEFAMOUS who did the chasing and OUR RENAISSANCE in behind. ALART was slow to begin.

The Result

FREEZE THE CHARGES (6th) led until strongly challenged at the 200m by a wall of horses as PALAZZO PUBLICO (1st) drove through best along the inside to get the better of MISS TENPINS (2nd), GRUNDERZEIT (3rd) and PRINCEFAMOUS (4th) in a bunched finish.

The Interest

PALAZZO PUBBLICO made the most of her light weight as Brenton Avdulla drove her home along the inside in a busy finish and showed she had the necessary sprint off a recent trial. MISS TENPINS showed she was ready off her two trials and she stuck on well down the middle. GRUNDERZEIT was the one coming right at the death, proving a handful for Samantha Clenton to keep him straight in the closing stages. PRINCEFAMOUS was the best of the on-pacers, sticking on all the way, while the well backed favourite MOGADOR ran on and just didn't look at his peak first-up. TAHITIAN BLACK was not ridden out to the line. Follow the first five over the line. Forgive EMINENT DUKE (severely checked at the 600m).
