Yard to the Post @ Rosehill Gardens
Race Day: Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 18 June 2016
It was a day for Chris Waller (four winners) and the Hawkes team (two winners) at Rosehill Gardens, including the recent non-winners DINGHU MOUNTAIN (picture) and HIMALAYA DREAM. Both gallopers were 'on notice' from their trainers following some below par runs.
The money came late for DINGHU MOUNTAIN just before the jump, but not even the Hawkes team was promoting the chances of HIMALAYA DREAM. He hadn't beaten a runner home in the Scone Cup and then at Royal Randwick before sweeping home to score at the big odds of $26.
The best win of the day came in Race 1 with the very genuine FOXPLAY (Foxwedge x Butters) storming clear of her two-year-old foes. She's a filly with plenty of guts and determination and Hugh Bowman was glowing in his praise.
In a rare family double, half-sister BUTTERBOOM (Myboycharlie x Butters) came out and won later too, Jo Pride's sprinter improving with the blinkers on to narrowly score from a dead-heat between FLAMBOYANT LASS and MAGIC OF DREAMS.
Hugh Bowman showed his class, winning three and getting placed in three, ending the dominance of apprentices in recent weeks.

2 | Cogliere | Marc Quinn | Andrew Adkins | 7 | 57.0
3 | Moohariba | Michael, John & Wayne Hawkes | Christian Reith | 1 | 54.5 |
In The Yard
2 year olds in the yard, DYNAMIC DYNASTY is a nice strong type, COGLIERE athletic and FOXPLAY solid/very genuine. SMART VENTURE looked well. MOOHARIBA was carrying some condition.
In The Running
DYNAMIC DYNASTY went to the lead from favourite FOXPLAY and COGLIERE out wider with no cover. SMART VENTURE was slow to begin and over-raced at the back early on. A FAIR tempo was set up.
The Result
FOXPLAY (1st) drove to a clear victory over the last 200m from COGLIERE (2nd) who had challenged early in the straight. MOOHARIBA (3rd) snuck home in-front of the pack for a place.
The Interest
Simply much too good! FOXPLAY is a very genuine racehorse that was unlucky to miss by a fraction first-up and made up for it here. She hits the line with force over the last 200m as others wilt. COGLIERE a nice effort too with big margins in the finish (3 lengths to 2nd, a further 2 lengths to 3rd). Follow FOXPLAY.

2 | Sebrina | Bjorn Baker | Kerrin McEvoy | 1 | 54.0
3 | Loophole | Chris Waller | Tye Angland | 3 | 57.0 |
In The Yard
Small field for Race 2, all looking well, JIAYUGUAN had a nice shine, an athletic type like SEBRINA. LOOPHOLE looked very fit and well.
In The Running
FOREIGN PRINCE rolled up wider to take the lead from BEYOND THANKFUL and SEBRINA. LOOPHOLE was flushed out three wide mid-race when the pace slowed. FOREIGN PRINCE got rolling from the 700m for home.
The Result
FOREIGN PRINCE (1st) got clear and held off SEBRINA (2nd), who chased but was tired late. LOOPHOLE (3rd ) was solid out wider.
The Interest
Back-to-back wins for the bold front-runner FOREIGN PRINCE with Panya on board. She rode him perfectly and won with dominance. LOOPHOLE finished along-side him the start before over 1800m and he was flushed out wide here so perhaps some excuses. SEBRINA peaked on her run and might be better next time. She was only third-up here. Worrying signs for JIAYUGUAN and BEYOND THANKFUL is ready for a break. No Follows or Forgives.
Race 3 TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP
Another commanding win from the country King

1 | King's Officer | Terry Robinson | Koby Jennings | 8 | 59.5
2 | Explosive Scene | Marc Quinn | Andrew Adkins | 11 | 55.0
3 | Erika | John Bateman | Blake Shinn | 5 | 57.0 |
In The Yard
KING'S OFFICER looked in-form but leaner and lacks sprint, has enjoyed STRONG tempo last 2 starts. AUCKLAND BEAUTY, ERIKA and EXPLOSIVE SCENE all looked very well, CALAWAY CRUIZER is a leggy type (seems OK), STRATUM'S SIREN looked well and muscular if she can stay.
In The Running
AUCKLAND BEAUTY strode clear to lead from THEY CALL ME ROSE, who worked up on-pace. SHE'S INVINCIBLE was three wide no cover in midfield. KING'S OFFICER was four wide with no cover. EMERALD ICE missed the start badly by 8 lengths. A STRONG tempo was set up.
The Result
KING'S OFFICER (1st) strode up out wider and maintained his run to beat home EXPLOSIVE SCENE (2nd), who ran on through the pack but was held late. ERIKA (3rd) ran on nicely too with a gap to 4th.
The Interest
That's three races with a STRONG tempo this prep for KING'S OFFICER and he's loved it, winning his last two. A toned and tough type that can sometimes lack a sprint, he performs best when the tracks are wet and the pace is good. EXPLOSIVE SCENE improved and ran well enough. SHE'S INVINCIBLE could be worth forgiving back in distance in an easier race next start. The further back in the field you settled here the better. Forgive SHE'S INVINCIBLE.
Race 4 SCHWEPPES HANDICAP
Luck needed in this mares race
fair tempo
Bias:

Place | Silk | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Gate | Kgs |

1 | Butterboom | Joseph Pride | Tim Clark | 6 | 56.0
2 | Magic of Dreams | Kris Lees | Hugh Bowman | 10 | 56.0
2 | Flamboyant Lass | Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | Koby Jennings | 5 | 58.5 |
In The Yard
First-up horses WINE TALES, FLAMBOYANT LASS and THUD looked fine, and most other mares looking well. FRILL SEEKING and MAGIC OF CREAMS nice shine to coat. No knocks at all.
In The Running
FLAMBOYANT LASS took up the running from BUTTERBOOM and MISS TENPINS moved up wider. ALART (2 lengths last), WINE TALES and DON'T DOUBT MARLEY were all slow to begin. ALART was bustled to get into the pack. WINE TALES and THUD couldn't find a run early in the straight.
The Result
In a bunched finish BUTTERBOOM (1st) kept going to win from MAGIC OF DREAMS (2nd) who ran on and FLAMBOYANT LASS (3rd). THUD (4th) got out late, but WINE TALES was blocked badly.
The Interest
Only 3.3 lengths from 1st to last, a tale of hard luck stories and taking you opportunities. Tim Clark put BUTTERBOOM on the pace and she wasn't challenged by her stablemate BONETE for that spot. With the blinkers, BUTTERBOOM was just too good for MAGIC OF DREAMS, who had every chance. A rare family double completed here given BUTTERBOOM is a half-sister to FOXPLAY. ALART (missed start), WINE TALES (blocked) and THUD (blocked) were the most unlucky runners. Forgive ALART, WINE TALES and THUD.

1 | Dinghu Mountain | Chris Waller | Hugh Bowman | 7 | 56.0
2 | Lanciato | Mark Newnham | Kerrin McEvoy | 3 | 59.0
3 | Classic Uniform | Gary Moore | Tim Clark | 9 | 59.0 |
In The Yard
CLASSIC UNIFORM a big strong type, is back in distance OK? SO WILLIE, DINGHU MOUNTAIN and NUDIERUDIE all very fit. No big knocks. VANDERKEMP a nice type.
In The Running
NUDIERUDIE went to the lead and sped along with CLASSIC UNIFORM on his outside. They set a STRONG tempo from VANDERKEMP. DARK STEEL was slowish and DINGHU MOUNTAIN went back to last. SO WILLIE three wide near the back. A STRONG tempo was set up.
The Result
LANCIATO (2nd) was urged from the turn and went after CLASSIC UNIFORM (3rd), who fought on bravely. DINGHU MOUNTAIN (1st) was patiently ridden and surged through late.
The Interest
The tough kiwi LANCIATO and super genuine CLASSIC UNIFORM were outdone by a Bowman gem. While other jockeys were getting worried, he rode the perfect race, realising the tempo was strong and waiting to strike late. Good runs from the top four, including VANDERKEMP, who might be better with more cover on a firmer track. Follow LANCIATO and CLASSIC UNIFORM.
Race 6 RANVET HANDICAP

1 | Avonaco | Chris Waller | Hugh Bowman | 17 | 59.0
2 | Gambler's Blues | Tim Martin | Tye Angland | 8 | 57.0
3 | Bold Circle | David Payne | Jason Collett | 4 | 59.0 |
In The Yard
Very closely-matched field, WELL HARDLEY EVER looked fit but short sprint, GRANDE PUNTO, BETTER NOT BLUE, DISGRACEFUL and NITE ROCKER all looked well. ZIGGY WILLIE and EMBLEY are nice types. AVONACO looked a touch warm.
In The Running
NITE ROCKER led in the early stages before GRANDE PUNTO strode up out wider after getting stuck wide. AVONACO was just behind them. BETTER NOT BLUE and SATIRICAL MAGIC both wide in midfield.
The Result
AVONACO (1st) moved up under a hold and sprinted clear from GAMBLER'S BLUES (2nd) fighting on from behind the leaders. BOLD CIRCLE (3rd) surged home out wider late.
The Interest
Waller's AVONACO has a good sprint and Bowman pulled the trigger and the perfect moment to put this race to bed. His stablemate and favourite DISGRACEFUL only plodded in 9th back towards the inside, which was getting chopped up later in the day as the jockeys searched for wider ground. EMBLEY also hit the line OK back along the rails. GRANDE PUNTO poorly ridden by young apprentice Andrew Adkins, who was questioned early in the day about his effort on WINE TALES. No Follows or Forgives.

2 | Ammirata | Joseph Pride | Sam Clipperton | 9 | 60.5
3 | Kellyville Flyer | Jason Attard & Lucy Keegan-Attard | Koby Jennings | 1 | 57.0 |
In The Yard
RYKER looked well, MAGICAL STANCE very solid and robust, he suits Rosehill, KELLYVILLE FLYER in good shape. ZAYAM and SPRINGBOK FLYER 95% fit. INVINZABEEL leaner can he sprint?
In The Running
MAGICAL STANCE was urged forward and ended up in the box seat. AMMIRATA was pushed on to take up the running from RYKER. HIMALAYA DREAM held together near the back of the field.
The Result
HIMALAYA DREAM (1st) sprinted from the back to streak past out wide, from AMMIRATA (2nd), who fought on. KELLYVILLE FLYER (3rd) edged out METALLIC CROWN (4th).
The Interest
Did anyone hear the riding announcement? HIMALAYA DREAM was ridden quieter today after two last place finishes and we couldn't hear anything on course or see anything on Twitter. A very hard horse to follow, his peak ratings were good enough and he somehow rekindled the old form again. An 11.36 from the 400m to 200m was simply brilliant! INVINZABEEL was plain (he's limited) and MAGICAL STANCE was ridden up-side down in another poor effort from Andrew Adkins, who was taken ill after this race. A spray from his master Ronny Quinton maybe!? Decent runs from stayers ZAYAM and SPRINGBOK FLYER. Forgive MAGICAL STANCE.

2 | Olympic Academy | Kris Lees | Hugh Bowman | 15 | 57.0
3 | Scherzoso | Aaron Purcell | Andrew Adkins | 1 | 59.0 |
In The Yard
VASSAL and SANTA ROCKS looked well. PIAMIMI is small and can quicken in these conditions. CONSIGN and even FIRST BLOOM looked quite good too.
In The Running
SAPPHIRE OF PATCH and COLLABORATION led from KONTIKI DANE and rolled along at a STRONG tempo. SCHERZOSO was a couple of lengths behind on the rails.
The Result
VASSAL (1st) ran on best to edge out OLYMPIC ACADEMY (2nd) down the outside. SCHERZOSO (3rd) fought on bravely along the rails. THURSTON (4th) closed off late too and was only 0.9 lengths away.
The Interest
They set an honest tempo, much different to the farcical speed when VASSAL raced last week. He showed his strength and stayed on best from the in-form OLYMPIC ACADEMY. A huge effort from SCHERZOSO back on the inside and THURSTON is ready to win next start. They went too hard for the little PIAMIMI, who is more a miler type. Follow VASSAL , SCHERZOSO and THURSTON.

2 | Powerline | Kris Lees | Hugh Bowman | 5 | 59.5
3 | Painte | Brendan McCarthy | Jay Ford | 8 | 59.0 |
In The Yard
A very open race to end the day. GRAND CONDOR and CROOKED BLAZE looked well, PAINTE holding his condition well, ELEMENOHPEE looked strong and compact.
In The Running
FREEZE THE CHARGES showed the most speed to take it up from ITALIAN SON at an honest FAIR tempo. POWERLINE track up behind them as they came wider on the track. ELEMENOHPEE was wider in midfield.
The Result
ELEMENOHPEE (1st) was strong to narrowly beat POWERLINE (2nd) and PAINTE (3rd) with FREEZE THE CHARGES (4th) only 0.4 lengths from the winner.
The Interest
He was the sprinter on the rise in this race and ELEMENOHPEE got the job done despite racing wide out. POWERLINE, PAINTE and FREEZE THE CHARGES all good 1100m competitors. PRINCEFAMOUS and AROUSED not at their best lately. Follow ELEMENOHPEE.
